This document is intended for client IT staff and end-users installing Thomson Reuter Eikon.

IN THIS GUIDE

This document describes the machine pre-requisites needed to install and run Thomson Reuters Eikon and the steps

to perform the installation.

CHAPTER 1 MACHINE PRE-REQUISITES

The key prerequisites for installing and running Thomson Reuters Eikon are:

Hardware/Software Requirements

Operating System Windows XP (Professional), Windows Vista (Professional and Ultimate), Windows 7 (all editions)

Service Pack level Windows XP SP2 with Hotfix KB89117 and above, Windows Vista – minimum SP1 required, Windows 7 – all versions

32 bit / 64 bit version Windows XP – only 32 bits version is supported Windows Vista – both 32 and 64 bits are supported Windows 7 – Professional and Ultimate supported on both 32 and 64 bits; Home Premium edition is supported only on 64 bits

Microsoft Office Office 2003, Office 2007, Office XP – no support in Beta(*), Office 2010 – statement to follow in due course

Office SP Office 2003 SP3, Office 2007 SP2

Memory requirements 1 GB (Windows XP); 2 GB (Vista)

Disk space required At least 750 MB free disk space (**)

MSXML Only version 3 is supported, with SP1 applied (***)

Internet Explorer V6 (with SP2), V7 and V8

HTTP protocol 1.1

Central Processing Unit (CPU) Intel Core 2 Duo (2.4 GHz) for Vista or Windows 7 Pentium 4 (2.4 Ghz) for Windows XP

Windows 2003 x86 SP2, Windows 2003 R2 x86 SP2 – and the

x64 variants

(*) – Microsoft Office XP has not yet been validated with Thomson Reuters Eikon. Nevertheless, the product allows installation of the desktop application if Office XP is detected. Thomson Reuters is not aware of any known issues when using Thomson Reuters Eikon with Office XP. (**) – By default, the installation program caches the installation kit for future usage (this is the default option for Thomson Reuters Hosted and Thomson Reuters Managed installations and it can‟t be disabled). Access to the installation source files is required when patching and updating the desktop. You should disable this feature only if you plan to make the installation source available from a shared network location (only available for Customer Managed installations). When this feature is disabled, disk space requirements are reduced to 300MB. (***) – This version of XML is installed by default with all the operating systems supported by Thomson Reuters Eikon (****) – This is only available for server side installations for Citrix deployment. The Windows server editions are not supported for standard Thomson Reuters Eikon desktop installations. Full support for Windows Server 2008 is planned to be available in the next months following the Thomson Reuters Eikon availability

CHAPTER 2 STEPS TO INSTALL THOMSON REUTERS EIKON

Installing Thomson Reuters Eikon is a simple and straight forward process. In order to access the installation

package, you need to have received your Thomson Reuters Eikon Welcome e-mail from Thomson Reuters. The e-

mail contains your personalized identifier along with a unique address allowing you to activate your login on the

Thomson Reuters Platform.

If you have received your Welcome e-mail and you have not yet activated your login, refer to the instructions

included with the Welcome e-mail for the first steps to access Thomson Reuters Eikon.

If you haven‟t received the Welcome e-mail and you don‟t have a valid Thomson Reuters Eikon login, please

contact Thomson Reuters. You can‟t install the product without a valid login.

The Thomson Reuters Eikon installation package is available at the following address:

http://eikon.thomsonreuters.com/desktop . Use this page if you want to install the product at home or on a

secondary workstation.

The installation process is described below. You will require a valid, activated, Thomson Reuters Eikon login.

From the main Thomson Reuters Eikon installation home page, click on the “Install Product” button to initiate the

installation:

Clicking on the “Install Product” button will display the Thomson Reuters Platform sign-on page

Enter your valid ID and password and login to the platform. In case this is the first time you connect to

Thomson Reuters Eikon, you should follow the instructions provided in your Welcome e-mail.

You will be then redirected to the License agreement page.

Click on “I accept” to move on to the download page

Click on OK

Once on the download page, choose your primary office location from the drop down menu

Click on the “Download” button

The standard Internet Explorer file download message box is displayed as shown below

Click on „Run‟. If you plan to deploy Thomson Reuters Eikon in a mass deployment scenario, you should save

the installation starter locally to your workstation. The file can then be used in a batch file mode.

Note: If you are installing on Windows Vista or Windows 7 with User Access Rights activated the default

installation is a per-user installation. If you want to perform a per-machine installation you should save the

installation starter locally to your workstation and then right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.

The Eikon installer is downloaded locally to your workstation

Select the Run option on the Security Warning dialog

The following screen will be displayed, showing that the System test tool is evaluating your system

Some warning messages may be displayed if your system does not meet all the minimum software and

hardware pre-requisites.

If this happens, please follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

The installation package is downloaded from the update service:

The downloaded package is installed on your workstation

The mandatory Add-ons are installed: Display Templates, Trading Add-on and Update Agent

At the end of the installation, if it was successful, you should see the following screen
