Welcome to the Every Child Ready @ Home calendar! Here, you will find activities designed for your young learner over the next four weeks. This calendar will focus on Summer Fun with Fitness! Try all of the activities or pick those that work best for your family.

MATERIALS: paper, crayons● Draw straight and wavy lines on a piece of paper.● Have your child practice fine motor skills by tracing the lines with their

pointer finger and then with crayons. ● If your child moves off the line, it’s okay! They are learning to control small

movements with their hands, fingers, and thumb.

MATERIALS: Large Letter S● Practice the letter S. Say, Make an S by writing

a curve back and a curve forward. Have your child say the letter S! Make the sound for S, like sun. Finally, have your child trace the S with their finger.

● See how many uppercase S’s you can find together throughout the day!

● Don't worry if your child needs more time to learn the letter S!

Letter Talk: S

MATERIALS: crayons, paper, Winter Sports● Print or draw the image.● Together, talk about winter sports, like skiing, figure

skating, or sledding. Highlight the equipment needed and how to play.

● Have your child independently color the winter sports pictures.

● Later, ask, What winter sport would you like to try? Why?

MATERIALS: Large Numeral 14● Use the provided 14 or write one of your own.● Show the number 14. Say, This is 14. It’s a number one

and a number four. Line down (one) and down, across, down (four). Have your child say the number, then trace it with their finger or a pencil.

● Ask, What number is this?

MATERIALS: Up, Down, Around, and Through book, small toy● Together, read Up, Down, Around, and Through. ● With your child, practice positional words. Say, Can you place the toy on top of the

table? Can you put the toy under the table? Place the toy next to the table.

MATERIALS: 2-3 pipe cleaners● Have your child practice fine motor skills by bending and twisting pipe

cleaners. Encourage your child to make shapes or objects, like a bracelet. Ask, What did you do with your pipe cleaners? How did you twist the pipe cleaner?

● If your child struggles with the pipe cleaner, it’s okay! They are learning to control small movements with their hands, fingers, and thumb.

MATERIALS: ball● Explore what it means to push. Say, When you push something, you make it move by

pressing it with your hands or body. ● Together, roll a ball back and forth to demonstrate push.● With your child, brainstorm other things that can be pushed, like a grocery cart or a ball

when kicked.

MATERIALS: paper, crayon, child-friendly scissors● Draw several straight horizontal lines across a piece of paper.● Have your child practice fine motor skills by cutting along a

straight line.● If your child cuts off the line, it’s okay! Cutting with scissors is a

great way to practice controlling small movements with their hands, fingers, and thumb.

MATERIALS: paper, crayons● Help your child to fold 2-3 pieces of paper in half to create a booklet.● Together, talk about types of exercise and why it’s important.● Have your child independently draw a cover for their book.● Your child can independently write and draw about exercise.● Later, ask, How did you exercise today?

● Practice counting to 15 with exercise movements.● With your child, try 15 toe touches. Demonstrate a toe touch. Stand with your feet

shoulder-width apart. Bend at your hips and reach for your toes. Stand back up and count 1. Continue the toe touches counting to 15.

● If your child is ready, count to 20 or higher.

MATERIALS: Up, Down, Around, and Through book● Together, read Up, Down, Around, and Through.● After reading, practice positional words while bending and stretching. Say, Bend over

and place your hand next to your foot. Stretch your arms up in the air. Put your hands on your belly and take a deep breath.

MATERIALS: shoe with shoelaces● Explore what it means to pull. Say, When you pull something, you use your hands or

body to make it move toward you.● Together, tug the laces on a pair of shoes or open the door to demonstrate pull.● With your child, brainstorm other things that can be pulled, like a wagon or a drawer you

pull open.

Morning Connection: Buttoning Buttons

MATERIALS: paper, crayons, music, optional - tape● Create letter cards. Write uppercase letters on a piece

of paper. Be sure to include several S’s and P’s. Cut out the letters and place or tape them to the floor.

● With your child, play a game of Freeze Dance. Say, When the music is playing, dance or move your body. When the music stops, listen for a letter, find it on the floor, and then freeze by it.

● You can add the letters O, F, M, B, S, P from the previous weeks.

Letter Talk: S and P

MATERIALS: paper, pencil, letter S’s, letter P’s● Brainstorm words that start with the letters S and P. ● Have your child practice tracing the letters S and P.

Use the provided sheets or make letters of your own!● Your child can color in the provided pictures or

draw and color ones they create (seahorse, star; pizza, penguin).

● Later, ask, What letters did you write? Can you think of other words that start with the same sound as seahorse? Can you think of other words that start with the same sound as pizza?

Independent Learning:S and P

● With your child, practice creating and extending patterns using sound. Think of three sounds to repeat over and over. Say, I am going to clap, stomp, snap, clap, stomp, snap. Have your child continue your pattern.

● Create patterns in a different order, like clap, clap, stomp, or clap, snap, snap.● Switch roles. Your child creates a sound pattern, and you continue it.

MATERIALS: Up, Down, Around, and Through book, toy or stuffed animal● Together, read Up, Down, Around, and Through.● With your child, play a game to practice positional words. Try one of the following or make up your own.

○ Place the toy above your head.○ Place the toy next to your ear.○ Place the toy under your chin.
