CONSTRUCT ION MARKET

Cote d ' lvoire is lone of the most dynamic economies in West Africa a n d key to un lock ing the francophone Sub-Saharan Africa market . The economy averaged over 8 percent economic growth from 2 0 1 2 - 2 0 1 7 , and strong growth is expected to cont inue through 2020. This posit ive out look is underp inned by an improved pol i t ical env i ronment a n d stable inf lat ion . The Government of Cote d ' lvoire (GOCI ) supports private sector- led growth a n d has worked hard to improve its investment climate a n d bu i ld economic infrastructure to a l low bus inesses to thr ive. The country welcomes foreign investment and hopes to attract more than $37.5 b i l lion in private sector investments through publ ic-pr ivate partnerships to imp lement its 2016-2020 Nat iona l Deve lopment P lan ( N D P ) . The N D P a ims to boost sus ta ined a n d inclus ive growth through proposed large infrastructure projects, dr iven by the private sector. Cote d ' lvoire is a lower midd le income country with a growing consumer class support ing a v ibrant retai l a n d restaurant sector . Cote d ' Ivo i re has been a bus iness a n d transportat ion h u b for the ent ire West Afr ican region s ince the early 1 9 6 0 s . After the end of the 2 0 1 1 pol i t ical cris is , Cote d ' l v o i r e ' s economy has rebounded sharp ly , resu lting in 7 . 7 percent G D P growth in 2 0 1 6 a n d 7 .8 percent GDP growth in 2 0 1 7 . Robust growth is expected to cont inue with forecasts of 7.4 percent GDP growth in 2 0 1 8 and 7 . 1 percent G D P growth in 2 0 1 9 .

The GOCI has imp lemented measures to s t rengthen transparency, improve governance a n d attract bus inesses . A new commercial court was created to he lp ensure impart ia l i ty a n d acce lerate d i spute reso lut ion . The GOCI enacted min ing a n d te lecommunicat ion codes to improve the operationa l env i ronment for bus inesses in those sectors a n d p lans to update the investment code in 2 0 1 8 . Cote d ' l v o i r e ' s min ing potent ia l is s ign i f icant , with untapped resources, i nclud ing go ld , copper , iron ore, manganese , bauxite a n d d iamonds . I n April 2 0 1 4 , the Un i ted Nat ions Secur i ty Counc i l l i f ted the d iamond export ban that had been in p lace s ince 2005. Recent oi l discoveries have been made in the Gu l f of Gu inea and major projects are underway to boost the count ry ' s hydroelectr ic a n d thermal power capacity . Numerous bus iness opportunit ies exist in agr ibus inesses , especial ly va lue-added process ing of cocoa, cashews, rubber , cotton, pa lm oi l a n d r ice. Other opportunit ies exist in the sa le of construct ion equ ipment a n d machinery ; power generat ion ; oil, gas a n d min ing explorat ion; a n d infrastructure deve lopment . Cote d ' I vo i re is a benef ic iary country u n d e r the Afr ican Growth a n d Opportunity Act (AGOA) .
