    THE BRIEF:

    The definition of Propaganda:information, ideas, opinions or images, often only giving one part of an argument,

    which are broadcast, publishedor in some other wayspreadwith the intention ofinfluencingpeople's opinions

    Propaganda has been used throughout the media massively since World War 1, throughoutpolitics, advertising, artworks and graphic design (to name but a few) in an effort to force thegeneral public to see a specific point of view.

    You have been asked to produce a posterwhich promotes your choice of the following point ofview (POV):

    Against binge drinking

    Against the use of cannabis

    Against eating disorders

    Against bullying

    For gay rights

    For equal opportunities for people of ethnic minorities

    YOU WILL NEED TO LOG THIS PROJECT ON POSTEROUS IN THE FORM OF A BLOG

    What to do:

    WEEK 1: 24th February 2013

    Complete research on your chosen theme for your propaganda.

    Complete research on at least 2 of the artists listed: Aleksandr Rodchenko; El Lissitzky;Vladimire Mayakovsky; Jonathan Barnbrook; Shepard Fairey; Demitri Moor; Nikolay Kogoutusing the worksheet on Posterous.

    Complete a 30 minute survey in the corridor of E Block to find out how many people in EBlock are affected by your chosen theme. Do similar surveys of how many people in EBlock know somebody who is affected by your theme.

    Present your research in a PowerPoint presentation. Label it all with what sort of research itis (e.g. Primary, Secondary etc.) Do a Spell Check.

    Upload this onto Posterous.This will provide evidence for: CREATIVE MEDIA UNIT 1: P1 M1 D1, P2 M2 D2, P3 M3 D3, P4 M4 D4

    WEEK 2: 4th March 2013

    Mind-map the possible imagery you could use to promote your POV. E.g. for against bingedrinking a smashed beer bottle might do the trick.

    Using the cameras provided, take a series of at least 20 photographs that could be usedwithin your propaganda print. Upload this onto Posterous and analyse using the separateBlog Book worksheet, discussing the strength and weaknesses of each one and comparingthem accordingly.

    Using your contact sheet, design a photograph that you plan to use for your final poster.Sketch out the composition and annotate.

    Shoot your chosen photograph. Take at least 5 shots to be sure one of them is usable.Upload this onto Posterous and analyse using the separate Blog Book worksheet,discussing the strength and weaknesses of each one and comparing them accordingly.

    WEEK 3: 11th March 2013

    Using your favourite photograph from last week, produce 4 black and white copies using aphotocopier.

    Produce 2 optional photo-montages of your final design using Black, White and Redcolours and the photocopy.

    Scan in these Photo Montage. Upload this onto Posterous and analyse using the separateBlog Book worksheet, discussing the strength and weaknesses of each one andcomparing them accordingly.

    Display both designs next to each other in the E Block corridor. Take part in the critique ofthe work in small groups, discuss your work and making notes on the advice given to youby your peers.

    Evaluate the Critique on Posterous. Make relevant changes to your Photo Montage designbased on the feedback. Upload this design onto Posterous.

    WEEK 4&5: 18th March 2013 & 25th March 2013

    Using your Final design for Photo Montage from last week, produce a 3 colour stencil usingBlack, Grey and Red. Use the spray paints to create this.

    Upload this onto Posterous and analyse using the separate Blog Book worksheet,discussing the strength and weaknesses of each one and comparing them accordingly.

    Explain how you made this, discussing the nature of the printing technique and how it canbe used.

    Produce a design based on your previous Photo Montage for a Lino Cut.

    Cut and print the lino to make 4 prints of your chosen Photo Montage.

    Choose your favourite print and upload this onto Posterous and analyse using the separateBlog Book worksheet, discussing the strength and weaknesses of each one and comparingthem accordingly.

    Explain how you made this, discussing the nature of the printing technique and how it canbe used.

    As an extension task you can produce a Screen Print of this in a separate workshop.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

    Health and safety: Health and safety Act 1974; Elimination of risk to self and others;thinking and working safely within a studio environment; following COSHH guidance on

    materials and workshop practice. Record health and safety issues and rules to be followed when working in an art anddesign studio.

    Record any hazards you may encounter when working with certain materials and tools.
