Have you ever wondered what it would possibly be like to command the largest land animal on earth? Or perhaps learn up close and personal what it takes to care for a Sumatran elephant for a day? Bali Zoo is proud to feature a remarkable and one of a kind experience that you won’t soon forget with our signature Mahout For a Day program; the only one of it’s kind in Indonesia.

Derived from the Hindi word mahaut, a mahout is traditionally a person who rides, handles and cares for an elephant for most of its life. At Bali Zoo, most of our professional mahouts are from Sumatra where our elephants originate and for one day they will show you what a day in the life of one of these amazing creatures.

Your day as a mahout begins with an early morning transfer from accommodation to Bali Zoo where you will be greeted by a guide for orientation and start the day with a Balinese breakfast at our Elephant View restaurant. After your meal you’ll board your elephant from our 100-year old traditional Sumatran Buffalo House for a morning ride with your personal mahout to the nearby scenic Wos River where your training begins with a lesson in how to bathe and scrub an elephant. Then hop back on your pachyderm and head over to his pad for more tutorials beginning with cleaning duties followed by more mahout instructions on how to behave around the elephant, learning basic vocal commands, how control and drive the elephant, and how to board and disembark the animal safely.

After your Mahout 101 course, you will ride your elephant back to the starting point for an opportunity to feed our African lion family, have a stroll around the zoo and then a private animal encounters session where you may have your photo taken with our tame tiger cubs, crocodiles, binturongs, pythons and more. Then it’s on to Lunch With The Lions at our WANA Restaurant.Lounge.Bar where you can enjoy our western influenced cuisine in plain view of our lion enclosure.

After lunch, it’s back on your elephant for a 45-minute Elephant Expedition where you will journey across the Wos River, through the zoo’s surrounding wilderness and grassy valley,a short stop at our Bale Bengong for a refreshing and healthy young coconut drink and then finally a short trek up to the oldest village temple in the area that dates back almost 300 years.

Once back at the buffalo house disembarkation point you will be treated to a sumptuous Jungle SocieTea at WANA Restaurant.Lounge.Bar followed by an hour relaxing Balinese massage before transfer back to your hotel by late afternoon.

Bali Zoo’s Mahout For a Day experience is designed to not only enlighten you on the behavior of these magnificent mammals and what it entails to command and care for them, but also leave you fulfilled having participated in probably one of the most unique outdoor adventures you will have on the island during your visit.

www.bali-zoo.comAfter thirteen successful years, Bali Zoo embarks on a mission to reform their identity and maintains its remarkable position as the island’s exceptional zoological park offering unique experiences. Initiating transformation is the launch of a new colorful logo and tagline;Love. Conserve. Share. These changes are not only aesthetic but also offers fresh ideas that modernize the concepts behind Bali Zoo.

Originally a caricature of an orangutan’s smiling face, the redesigned logo depicts a colorful graphic of three slightly over lapping animals lined up left to right in a horizontal format: a deer, a cassowary and an orangutan, which were the first animals acquired byMr. Anak Agung Gde Putra when he opened the zoo in 2002. The largest and most upright animal pictured and colored turquoise is the Javan Rusa, a deer indigenous to Java, Bali and Timor. Directly in front and colored in orange is a cassowary, a flightless species that is the third tallest and second heaviest living bird native to New Guinea and Australia. And finally, leading the pack of three and colored in green is an orangutan walking on all fours. The new logo is complemented by a sans serif, uppercase typeface FS Me that is situated below and occupies the same width as the three animal graphic pictogram. The clean font completes the new look that is bold and easy to read.

Aesthetically, pleasing to the eye in color combinations as well as design, the new Bali Zoo logo will be implemented in a number of Marketing Collateral, including stationary, business cards, letterheads, envelopes and CD covers, advertising, print ads, posters and banners; and merchandise ranging from imprinted baseball caps, polos, t-shirts, mugs and umbrellas that all bear various color configurations of the newly designed logo. Vibrant color are chosen torepresent the colorful and wonderful moments, the guests will experience at Bali Zoo. Turquoise symbolizes the refreshing and friendly feeling, guest will experience while bonding with animal and nature. Orange symbolizes energy, adventure, happiness, fascination and enthusiasm of experience at Bali Zoo. Green is chosen to compliment the sturdy grey, adding freshness and nature ambience to the identity.

Introducing the brand new tagline, “Love, Conserve, Share,” Bali Zoo reference the original ideas behind the development of the zoological park by Founder and Director Mr. Anak Agung Gde Putra who created the zoo out of his greatlove for animals, his desire to conserve a broad range of Indonesian fauna and finally to share this experience with locals and tourists alike. Taking these three cornerstone concepts of the Bali Zoo and encouragingthe public to participate in conserving faunas is just the first step in rebranding.

The third stage in their evolutionary transformation is a total website revamp that promises a more user-friendly experience. The simple and modern design is more ergonomic and user friendly with several improved features including bolder graphics, concise and easy to access content, a simplified booking form, enhanced payment page, and mobile optimized for easy access on all mobile platforms and browsers.

The striking bold and colorful graphics of Bali Zoo’s new logo is fun, vibrant, the modern approach creates an experience new identity for 2015 and beyond.

Two Bengal tiger cubs (Panthera tigris tigris) were born at Bali Zoo on Sunday, August 2nd, 2015 at 14:00. Despite being twins, the cubs have different color coats. The white cub is a female, named Dewi while the orange cub is male and called Dewa. These duo Bengal tigers are the first generation of a pair of white tigress "Kartini" twelve years old with male orange Bengal tiger King eleven years old. Born weighing 2.3 kg with a body length of 40 cm and growing on her second month Dewi weighs 6.3 kg. Dewa weighed greater with 2.7 kg along with a length of 44 cm and now he’s turning 6.9 kg, both are developing healthily.

During lactation, Kartini, the mother tiger gets more nutrition intake of vitamins, minerals and provided additional one kilo of beef every day. They are still under the intensive supervision of our vets.

The birth of Bengal tigers has become successful as Bali Zoo has a role as Conservation Institution for the protection and conservation of endangered species, given the scarcity of white Bengal tigers today. "We are ecstatic with the birth of the tiger cubs, since the beginning of pregnancy until birth we give extra attention by performing routine checks from the keeper and the medical team to ensure a healthy mother and cubs. The tiger cubs births will be one of the main attractions for tourists visiting Bali Zoo and the visitors are welcome to observe the playfulness of these Bengal tiger's twins. “explains Emma Kristiana Chandra, Public Relations Executive of Bali Zoo.
