LIFE is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action, which contributes to the implementation and development of EU policy and legislation.
After more than 25 years of existence, LIFE has funded more than 4.170 projects with over €3,4 billion and continues to co-finance nature conservation, environment and climate projects. For the 2014-2020 period, the total budget of LIFE is €3,46 billion.
What is the LIFE Programme
The LIFE Programmecovers three areas:

During the current Programming Period, LIFE has two Sub-Programmes:
Who can take part in a LIFE project? Beneficiaries of the Programme are public bodies, non-governmental organizations, universities, research centers and institutes, private companies, as well as startups. The Coordinator Beneficiary must be based in the EU, while co-beneficiaries may be in non-EU countries, subject to conditions.

Your National Contact Point for the LIFE Programme is the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. In addition, under the LIFE Cyclamen Project (a Project funded by the LIFE Programme) a team of experts was formed to further empower the National Contact Point and offer much needed support to both applicants and running projects.

A call of proposals is published once a year, around April. All potential applicants are requested to use the available electronic platform eProposal for submitting their proposals (regarding traditional projects). All required documents are available online in the section “Application Packages” on the LIFE Programme’s website https://ec.europa.eu/easme/en/life.

The overall aim of the LIFE URBANPROOF project is to increase the resilience of municipalities to climate change by equipping them with a powerful tool for supporting better informed decision making.

The ultimate objective of the project LIFE ORGANIKO is to strategically demonstrate the comparative advantages of organic farming and products versus conventional methods, by using indicators of mitigation efficiency to climate change, agronomic and environmental quality and possible health benefits due to organic diet for children.

The LIFE MEDEA project aims to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of an adaptation strategy to Desert Dust Storms (DDS) and to better inform EU policy-making by providing a field-based evidence for the adoption of a strategic plan for mitigating the health effects of DDS events in Cyprus and the rest of Southeastern Europe.
