Gerringong Public School Term 2 Week 9
Weekly Newsletter Term 2 Week 9 15th June 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Carers
Firstly, I would like to wish our public speakers and debaters ’ good luck this week. The finals of the
public speaking competition will be held at Jamberoo Public school on Tuesday 15 June. Good luck to
Sunny M and May D in Years 3 & 4 and to Lucy D and Marnie D in years 5 & 6. Also, our debating team will be competing against Berry Public school this week. Good Luck everyone!
Also, good luck this week to our “Southern Stars” who are performing at their first group rehearsal this
week. I know Miss Berwick, Miss Smith and the students have been working very hard. Just a friendly
reminder, to bring back permission notes and money for these rehearsals. If you have any concerns, please contact me directly to discuss.
Thank you to Matilda T for the Netball Gala Day sports report:
"On Tuesday the 8th of June everyone packed their bags and 7 netball teams, and the teachers hopped
on the bus at 8.00am to head off to the Netball Gala Day at Berkeley Sports Centre. Everyone found out
their teams so in the cold winter air we played around 6 to 7 games against teams from all over the
region. Gerringong played their best in all games showing great sportsmanship and displaying our school
values of respectfulness and resilience. No matter if we won, lost or drew our games ev eryone had a
smile on their faces. Since so many people wanted to play there could only be one competitive team and
they ended up coming second overall in their age group. Overall, it was a really fun day playing mixed netball and a great experience for everyone."
Thanks again to Mrs Cummins for organising the day, Mrs Baines, Mrs Clare and Mrs McGarn.
Last Thursday we believe, we held the coldest Athletics Carnival yet at Gerringong PS! Despite the
weather, students and staff did an amazing job in completing all the heats so that we can obtain the
fastest times for selection to district. It was unfortunate we could not hold the finals but due to the
inclement weather, it was best we headed back to school. Thank you to all staff for the coordinati on and teamwork for making this day such a success.
Last week notes went home for Year 4 and 5 students interested in being involved in our school
Beginner Band. The Wollongong Conservatorium of Music is working with our school to run a band
program in semester two 2021 and beyond. New students need NOT have any prior experience to join
the band. The program will cater for absolute beginners. Basic skills and music literacy will be covered in
the band class. Please return these notes as soon as you have decided if you would like to give this a go
and accept this great opportunity.
