    Welcome to the Caterpillar Gas EngineRating Pro (GERP) Tutorial. This

    powerful tool provides the ability tocreate performance data for CaterpillarNatural Gas engines designed for the gascompression industry.

    After launching GERP, you

    will be asked to check forweb updates. Select Yes torun this check.

    If there are no WebUpdates, you will see this

    screen appear.

    If a Web Update isavailable, select StartDownload and theupdate will begin.

    The 3 files are selectable.

    When the update iscomplete, select Close.

    After checking for updates,the Login window willlaunch automatically. Youcan also access the Loginwindow from the Filemenu. The user Loginand Password must beentered to open theapplication. Press the AddNew button to add a newuser to the list of users, theUser Master.

    When you first login, you will beasked to change your password.Select Yes to define a user password.

    Selecting Yes will prompt the ChangePassword box to appear. Choose auser password and select OK.

    After logging in for the first time, youwill have the option for automaticlogin, which eliminates the need for auser name and password. To changeusers, simply logoff and then login.

    After logging in for the firsttime, you will be prompted toenter default information. Fillout the fields in both theSettings and the CompanyInfo tabs. Enter a CompanyName (which will be used forall users on this PC) andDealer information. If youdont know your dealer,choose Find A Dealer tolocate a dealer.

    Selecting Find A Dealerwill allow the user tolocate a dealer byaddress, dealer name, orlatitude/longitude. Fill in

    the fields and select Find.

    A list of dealers willappear. Click on thedealer for moreinformation and fill in theDealer Name, Dealer

    Contact, and Dealer Email.Then select Close.

    Select the Settings tab toinput setting information.After choosing desireddefaults, select Save, thenClose. This screen can beaccessed at any time from

    the Edit menu.

    The Register Software option

    will also be displayedautomatically with each newversion install. This will ensureyou are notified of all futureupdates and upgrades. It isalso available from the Helpmenu and is used to register

    your current version of GasEngine Rating Pro. Fill in thefields and click Submit.

    To add a new user to theprogram, go to the Mastersoption, available from theUtilities Menu, and selectUsers. You can also do thisat the Login screen. TheUser Master section willappear.

    In the Login section,enter the Login namefor the new user. This

    can be their personalname, or any othercode that will easily beremembered. Fill inthe rest of theinformation and clickSave.

    To search for an existing user, use the

    dropdown arrow on the right of theSearch box.

    To add a new customer tothe program, go to the

    Masters option, availablefrom the Utilities Menu, andselect Customer.

    The Customer Masterallows you to add andremove customers fromthe customer list that

    appears in the ProjectInformation screen.

    To search for an existing customer, use

    the dropdown arrow on the right of theSearch box.

    To Add a new companyclick the Add button tothe right of the field.Specify a company

    name, its status, thenselect Save and Close.

    The Customer Master

    window is also wherethe customer contactinformation is entered.After filling in thefields, select Save thenClose.

    To import Microsoft Outlookor Lotus Notes contacts tothe program, go to theImport option, availablefrom the File menu, andselect Contacts.

    Select either Import OutlookContacts or Import Lotus Contactsto populate the list of Contactsyou wish to import.

    After selecting to Import contacts,you will be prompted to enter apassword. This password is thesame as your Lotus or Outlook

    password. Enter the password andselect OK.

    Select all contacts you wish to import. A red highlightedcontact means more information is needed about thatcontact to be imported. White means all necessaryinformation is provided for that contact from theaddress book.

    Click the left hand box to select a contact to beedited. Then select Edit and modify the data inthe boxes below.

    The first step when starting a new projectis to make the engine selection.

    Older engines are catalogued in Gas

    Engine Rating Pro as Non-current. Thisshould help you manage your fleet.

    For non-current ratings, you cannarrow the selection by utilizing theserial number prefix.

    For current selections,begin by choosing theengine using either thePerformance RatingNumber from a TechnicalPerformance Data Sheet

    or by inputting individualparameters.

    If the feature code for arating or the rating numberon a Caterpillar TechnicalPerformance Data Sheet isnot known, select theengine using a series ofdropdown menus.

    You can find a model byselecting options from anyof the dropdowns. When aselection is made, the otherdrop down choices arelimited to only those that

    match your selections.

    The Engine Model field is filtered based onthe Engine Family that was selected. Selectan Engine Model from the dropdown list.

    A Warning screen will appear if you

    press Next and the value column isnot completely filled in.

    Select the Emission Setting fromthe dropdown list.

    Once enough information hasbeen determined to fully identify amodel/rating, the engineinformation table is populated.Select Next.

    The Rating Information screen (mainscreen) displays full load engineperformance at the standard ratedconditions. Enter the project site

    conditions in the Site Rating column.

    The Altitude can be changed by typingin the correct altitude of the sitewhere the engine will be operating.

    The Air Temperature can bechanged to match the maximumsite temperature where the enginewill be operating.

    The SCAC temperature (aftercooler)can be changed from the standardsetting using a dropdown box of SCACtemperatures.

    The site fuel can be selected from apredefined list of fuels. If the fuel gasanalysis is known, select the Gas Analysisoption from the list and the program willdisplay another input screen.

    The Fuel Analysis screen is used to enter thecomposition of the fuel gas that will be suppliedto the engine and its properties are calculated.When the necessary fields are filled in, selectCalculate, then Next.

    After selecting Next, notice that theCalculate button on the main screenis lit. Select Calculate to haveprogram calculate engineperformance at specified site

    conditions.

    The Rating Information screen will nowdisplay complete site full load engineperformance at the site conditions aswell as standard rated conditions.

    The Gas Engine Rating Pro allowsusers to override default settings toselect other units of measure andother units for calculating exhaustemissions as well as reduced

    speeds and loads.

    At any time during your engine selection, youmay select the Notes button to enter

    miscellaneous notes about your project.

    The calculate button will be lit whenever newinput information is specified. If any input has

    changed, always remember to calculate again,using the Calculate button.

    The Project Information section containsproject descriptive data related to thecurrent project, customers, and whoprepared the project. This will bedisplayed on site data outputs.

    Select Add/Edit Customer to input acustomer name. Notice that this windowcan also be accessed through the UtilitiesMenu as previously mentioned.

    When you are finished with yourengine calculations and haveinputted the ProjectInformation, make sure yousave your work by selectingFile, Save.

    When changes are made topreviously released

    ratings, you will get one oftwo messages when youopen a saved project thatused a changed (non-current) rating.

    If the change is due to anerror in the data, you willreceive this message.You can review the olddata or update to the newdata.

    Multiple runs allows users to save multiplemodels or selections under a single projectname. To select a new run, save your workand click Runs then Create New.

    The Site Tech Data Sheet displays

    engine performance data, whichrepresents the highest possiblecontinuous operating power at the userspecified site conditions. The data mayalso represent the user specified sitespeed and power level when a reduced

    power or speed value is entered. Youcan print, export to .CSV file, or closethe tech data pages.

    50% load points.

    The Optional Graphs plotEngine Power vs. selectedParameters such as FuelConsumption, InletManifold Pressure, Ignition

    Timing, etc. in the engineoperating range. Thesecurves are based on theSite Rating at Maximum Airto Turbo Temperature.Move your cursor to any

    point on the line to get anexact reading.

    Select the Drawings tab to view a 2Ddrawing or 3D model of the enginemodel you are working with. Utilizethe toolbar to perform differentfunctions with the model. Thiswindow also contains a Downloads

    button. If you click this button youwill be able to Download all therelated file formats for the selectedPerformance Number drawing.

    Select 3D Model to view the engine.(NOTE: 3D models are only available

    for 3500 and 3600 engine models).This window also contains aDownloads button. If you click thisbutton you will be able to Downloadall the related file formats for theselected Performance Number

    The Special Rating Request (SRR) screen isused to document any special conditions orrequirements that prevent a rating frombeing analyzed by the Gas Engine Rating

    Pro. This information can then be e-mailedto Caterpillar for processing. Be sure to bevery specific and detailed when filling in theRequest box.

    The Check for GERP Updates option isavailable from the Utilities menu and canbe utilized to update the Gas EngineRating Pro application. Check for GERP

    Updates will download the latestenhancements or changes and will guideyou through the setup process.
