    MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

    Preamble:In order to promote both Aca demic and Research cooperation between the Indian Institute ofTechnology Bombay (lIT-B) , Mumbai , India , and Georg -Simon -Ohm University of AppliedScience s, (GSO) , Nurnberg , Germany , the two institutions agree as follows:

    Academic Area:

    llT -B and GSO will collaborate through different teaching programs to encourage directcontact and enhance t heir fields of competence through co-operation between their teachingfaculties , departments , their administrative staff , and researc h centres.

    Besides the exchange of staff members and students as mentioned below , activities can includeexchange of teaching materia l, participation in seminars, a nd co llection a nd documentation ofinformation to augment refe rence libraries.

    Each institution agrees to a dmit senior undergraduates or postgraduate exchange students for study ,thesis projects and adva nced laboratory work. Both institutions intend to recognize the creditsachieved at the host instit ution. Exchange students for short term st udies up to one year will beenrolled at the host institutio n without having to pay tuition fees.

    In anyone year the nu mber of excha nge stude nts received by each host institution will bemaintained at two. The nu mber of exchange stu dents wi ll be reviewed at the end of every year ofcooperation in order to achieve a reasonab le ba lance.

    The final decision to acce pt an exc hange st udent w ill rest w ith th e host institu tion.

    Each institution agrees to nominate an academic staff member who will monitor the academicprogress ofthese stude nts during the academic year. Bot h institutio ns wi ll prepare the exc hange

    students about the hos t country 's cu ltural a nd language as pects for easier sta rt. They wi ll givetheir guest st udents fu ll assistance rega rding academic issues.

    Each institution agrees to encourage exchange of academic staff to give lectures and seminarsand also participate actively in mu ltidisciplinary strategic thematic subjects.

    Research Area:

    Within fields for researc h that are mutually acceptable , the fo llowing general forms of co-operationwill be pursued:

    Visit s by and exchange of research students and faculty members for knowledge transferand conducting of research in each other 's laboratory.

    To the extent the parties are entitled there to , the exchange of information including , but notlimited to , research publications of faculty members and research students.

    Joint research activities , joint supervision of research work and joint presentation inseminars , etc.

    Financial Aspects : Staff members and students participating in exchange visits (both academic and research) will

    be responsible for the cost of their travel , accommodation and other personal expenses. Theymust also take care of appropriate medical insurance for the duration of their stay in the hostinstitution.

    Subject to fund s availabl e, both in stitutions ma y offer partial or full bursarie s to academic

    exchange students. Bursaries for visiting academic staff ma y be considered and the extent ofinvolvement will depend on the availability offunds for such purposes .

    Both institutions understand that all financial arrangements will have to be negotiated andagreed upon , well beforehand for each new initiative taken .

    Administration:Both institutions will nominate a liaison coordinator for this cooperation . Further more , theInternational Relations office at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay , Mumbai and at theGeorg-Simon-Ohm Universit y of Applied Sciences , Nurnberg will serve as contact points and are tobe informed about all activities taking place. When requested , they will provide assistance regardingvisa / immigration formalities , other administrative issues and locating accommodation.

    Duration of the MoU:If the Memorandum remains dormant for three consecutive years , from the date of commencement , itwill be deemed to have lapsed. Where the Memorandum continues to be active , the two institutionsagree to review it after five years from the date hereof. It may be terminated at any time b y mutualconsent or b y six (6) months' notice in writing by either institution .

    Should on- going collaborati ve act ivitie s be affected b y termination , the parties undertake to resol veany issue amicabiy by mutuai agreement taking into consideration commitments made to academicstudents , financial and IPR aspects.
