The new research database „German Literary Expressionism
Online" makes approx 150 journals, yearbooks, collections and
anthologies from the early 20th century available in digital fulltext.
The database provides a unique

body of text for research of the
German expressionist movement.

Included publications:
Basis for the selection of publications for the database is the „Index
Expressionismus“, revised and extended by the editor Paul Raabe.
Some journals had strictly literary aspirations, whilst others exhibited
a strong tendency toward political agitation.

As a medium, journals provided the expressionist authors with their
most important forum for literary, artistic, intellectual and political
discourse.
This variety makes the publications extremely interesting for a
multitude of research queries.

The journals, yearbooks, collections and anthologies of literary expressionism
serve not only as a source on German literature of the Modern era, but can
also be used for the study of the history of art, theatre, film, dance and music
between 1910 and 1930. They are a unique body of contemporary historical
evidence.

Each author wrote for one journal or another, some publishing their work
exclusively in periodicals, anthologies and collections.
Many authors not belonging to the central circle of the expressionist
movement, such as philosophers, theologians, politicians, historians, art
historians or psychologists, also wrote for the new journals.

- Approx 40,000 indexed articles from more than 5,000 contributors
