Germany in Autumn does not have a plot per se; it mixes documentary footage, along with

standard movie scenes, to give the audience the mood of Germany during the late 1970s. he

movie covers the two month time period during 1977 when a !usinessman was "idnapped,

and later murdered, !y the left#wing terrorists "nown as the $A%#$ote Armee %ra"tion &$ed

Army %action'. he !usinessman had !een "idnapped in an effort to secure the release of the

orginal leaders of the $A%, also "nown as the (aader#)einhof gang. *hen the "idnapping

effort and a plane hi+ac"ing effort failed, the three most prominent leaders of the $A%,

Andreas (aader, Gudrun nslin, and -ean#arl $aspe, all committed suicide in prison. /t has

 !ecome an article of faith within the left#wing community that these three were actually

murdered !y the state. he movie has several vignettes, including an extended set of scenes

with the famous director $ainer *erner %ass!inder discussing his feelings a!out Germanys

 political situation at the time. %ass!inders scenes almost seem to !e candid documentary

footage, !ut arent. ther scenes include documentary footage of the +oint funeral of (aader,
