Open Classes Overview of the GSDCV SBE 9 &10th March 2019 I would like to thank the GSDCV members and Committee for the invitation to judge the Open Classes at the 2019 State Breed Exhibition. I would like to thank my fellow judge Mr. Greg Green for his input and support. I would like to thank the exhibitors who did support the event and encourage all that they want this event to continue it must be supported otherwise it may swell revert to an ordinary show. I would like to thank Ian Urie for his excellent stewarding, Barbara Blythe, stenographer extraordinaire and David Organ, Show manager and his crew of workers who set up for the show. Breeders Group There was one Breeders Group presented: Willmaurs Kennel. There were 2 sires Orrinshir Elton John and Hayo Aus Agrigento (Imp Deu) and 3 dams, all carrying Willmaurs East End Effie. 3 females and 2 males. The group were very well pigmented and coloured, correct size, medium strong with balanced angulations. Some restrictions in the length and lay of the croup and upper arm. They showed a willingness to work and a good, ground-covering gait. Only 2 or the 5 presented were exhibited on the weekend. I always attempt to judge the SBE as a breed evaluation rather than a show. I really do feel however that it is difficult to give substantial breed advice from such limited numbers in both the young classes and the Open classes. This year saw no Sires progeny classes presented. No Sire exhibited at this event was able to present sufficient diversity of progeny this weekend nor, in fact at shows conducted Australia wide throughout 2018 to allow any really conclusive breed advice. It is mostly conjecture regarding potential based on breeding, family history and kennel type hence only 3 of the top award, the coveted Excellent Merit were presented. I have made comments in the critiques regarding the performance during the class, the gun test, temperament test and both on and off lead gaiting performance. Additionally I have made some references to breeding potential, family connections and such in the critiques.
