Message from the Principal
Harmony Day
Although it was a little wet, the school still had fun celebrating Harmony Day on Wednesday. Our teachers did a great job of bringing in dishes from around the world to highlight the benefits of our multicultural society. It was wonderful to see our students engaging in activities which promoted harmony, tolerance and the benefits of diversity. A big thank you to Mrs Field for organising the day. Easter Hat Parade and Denim for Deafness Fundraiser
On Thursday 29th March, our K-2 students will be involved in the annual Easter Hat Parade. Parents of these students are invited to attend their child’s classroom to help design and make their hat before the parade which will begin at 10:45am in the hall. The P&C will be drawing their Easter raffle after the parade so please ensure you’ve bought your tickets beforehand. On the same day, we will be participating in the Denim for Deafness fundraiser. All students are invited to wear denim and bring a gold coin donation. Money raised will go to the Deafness Foundation which supports students with profound hearing difficulties. For more information, please visit: www.deafness.org.au/denim-for-deafness/ Cross Country
On Friday 6th April we will be holding our annual Cross Country. Parents are welcome to come along and support their child as they attempt the course. Please see the note, Facebook or SkoolBag App for more information.
Critical and Creative Thinking Professional Learning
Last week, our teachers attended an additional professional learning afternoon with a number of other Lake Macquarie Schools. The session focussed on building teachers capacity to incorporate critical and creative thinking into their classrooms. This will be an ongoing focus over the next three years as we know that these skills will enable our students to perform well at school and are the skills employers are looking for. For more information on what the teachers were learning, you may like to visit: www.cct-pl.education/#home Kind regards, Nathan Forbes Principal

1/2M News...
1/2M News
How the year is flying by! It certainly doesn’t seem like we are in Week 8 already. The students in 1/2M have loved getting to know each other and we have discovered more things about one another through our daily Check-Ins. This is a chance first thing in the morning to say how we are feeling. The class has enjoyed trying meditation and Cosmic Yoga through the program Smiling Minds. It gives us all a chance to wind down for a few minutes after a hectic lunch and have our mind ready for learning. Students have been busy learning how to write Sizzling Starts in their narrative writing, as well as Banning the Boring bits. These strategies are from the 7 Steps to Writing re-source. Being involved in Ninja Maths has also been a highlight this term. Students aim to devel-op a variety of quick mathematical strategies using cards, dominoes and dice to solve number questions. Coding has been a favourite activity that students have started learning to use this term. We are using the app Scratch Jnr and the aim is to create codes to design a short story. We are looking forward to our delivery of BeeBots next week to continue our coding skills. Students have appreciated learning about world famous artists Pablo Piccaso, Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. Our room is certainly looking like an art gallery full of cre-ative and individual artworks. Seesaw has been an invaluable new resource which we have added to our class routine and it is great that we have 100% parent participation. We look forward to sharing more of our wonderful work throughout the year. If the first 8 weeks is an indication of what wonderful learners are in 1/2M, I cannot wait to experience the next three terms with this beautiful class! Note: Remember 1/2M interviews are week 10 due to Mrs Mantle being on leave and also at PBL training.
