Fundamental Geospatial Data Preparation Project by GSI
All city planning zone of Japan (approx. 100,000
km2) will be prepared at scales greater than 1:2500
(FY 2007 – 2011)
Other areas were prepared at scale of 1:25000
(FY 2007)
Revision has been started for all city planning zones (approx. 100,000 km2)
at scales greater than 1:2500 (FY 2010~)

recognized in Japan as one of the platform data
for integration of various administrative
information.
• The Basic Act on the Advancement of Utilizing
Geospatial Information enacted in 2007 is aimed
to develop policies concerning the advancement
of utilizing geospatial information, such as
– developing Fundamental Geospatial Data
– providing sampling data from over 1,200 GNSS-based
control observation stations
– providing tile-based web mapping service
