Background

★ Born in 1732 in a Westmoreland County Virginia ★ Commissioned/Chief a lieutenant colonel in 1754★ Much of his family’s wealth was lost during the Puritan

Revolution★ Washington was the eldest out of the six★ He was homeschooled and studied with the local church sexton

and later on schoolmaster

English classics★ Washington used most of his knowledge with backwoodsmen and

Rise to Power★ Washington joined British General Edward Braddock’s army in Virginia in

1755★ Washington took command of the English army★ He wasn’t trained in the open field style of battling practiced by

commanding British generals

Traits as a leader

Washington was chosen as a leader because of his character, his trustworthiness, and because he was known as the best colonial military commander he was also chosen because everyone believed that he could take on

the british and win.
