George Washington Marriage to Martha Custis

George Washington
• He was born in 1732.• When George was 17, he became
a surveyor.• He inherited Mount Vernon after
his half brother, Lawrence, died.• George’s saying was “I cannot tell
a lie.”
Martha Custis
• Martha was born in 1731.• She was born in Chestnut Grove.• Martha was the oldest of nine
children.• She was a widow.
George and Martha’s Marriage• They got married January 6, 1759.• When George married Martha, he
doubled his slaves.• Martha’s two children, Jacky and
Patsy, were known as George’s children. He took care of them like they were his own.
• George became the president.
George’s President Life
• George was the first president of the United States.
• He was known as the Father of his Country.
• George was the first in peace and first in war.
• He was the commander of the Continental Army.
The After Life
• Patsy became ill and passed away when she was 12.
• Jacky also became ill and passed away when he was 27.
• Many years later George and Martha passed away.
• They were both buried together in Mount Vernon.
