The DevelopmentTy George Lansbury is Torfaen’s first Extra Care scheme. It was opened in October 2008. The scheme comprises of 35 self-contained flats and each flat contains either one or two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and living room.
Working in partnershipBuilt in partnership with Torfaen Council, the £6.1 million development is managed by Melin Homes. The care provider is Hafod Care Association and Torfaen Council’s social care team are responsible for allocating homes at the scheme.

What is Extra Care? Extra Care accommodation caters for older people who need care and support, but who want to retain their independence in a home of their own.
SupportThe support needs of each resident are determined by an assessment undertaken by social services. Staff from Hafod Care are based at Ty George Lansbury 24 hours a day and provide additional support to residents who need extra help. This includes assistance getting out of bed, dressing, bathing, shopping, and doing house work.
Two support workers are also on site to help residents socialise, expand their interests and provide advice on a range of topics including money issues, benefit claims and domestic help.

CostResidents must pay a rental charge for each flat and an additional service charge to cover running costs such as heating, lighting, water, cleaning of the building, and alarm maintenance. There will be an additional charge for meals.
