Introduction The GeoManagerSM Pocket EditionTM solution is the handheld counter-part to the GeoManager Fleet Management solution. Most of the Fleet Management functionalities for the two solutions are the same, such as the map functions, messaging and forms and Landmarks.

To use Pocket Edition devices in GeoManager, you must first install the GeoManager application on the CDMA phone. For information about installing the application, please read the GMPE Installation Guide.

Duraplus Phone Navigation The Duraplus phone is a ruggedized CDMA phone with messaging and Internet capabilities.

Navigating the Duraplus phone requires the use of the keys shown in Figure 1.

DuraXT Phone Navigation The DuraXT phone is a ruggedized CDMA flip phone with messaging and Internet capabilities.

Navigating the DuraXT phone requires the use of the keys shown in Figure 2.

Launching the Pocket Edition Application

Note: In order for the phone to report location to Trimble, the GeoManager application must be installed. For information about downloading the Java application, see the GeoManager Pocket Edition Administration Guide.

The Pocket Edition application should launch automatically when the phone is powered on.

If the application does not automatically launch:

1. If you need to unlock the Duraplus phone, press the OK key, then the Back key. For the DuraXT, flip the phone open.

2. Press the OK key. The main phone menu appears.

3. Navigate to My Stuff.

4. Press OK. The My Stuff screen appears.

5. Navigate down to Applications.

6. Press OK. The Applications screen appears.

7. Navigate down to Trimble.

8. Press OK. The GeoManager Pocket Edition application launches.

Using the Pocket Edition Application After verifying the GeoManager Pocket Edition application is running, you can use the application to:

• Send and receive messages to the office.

• Send current status information

• Determine your current location

• Run application diagnostics

The GeoManager Pocket Edition home screen, shown in , is found in the My Stuff>Application menu on the phone.

Messaging The Messaging home screen, shown in Figure 2, allows users to send and receive messages and forms to and from the back office.

There are four options in the Messaging home screen:

• Inbox

• New Message

• New Form

• Outbox

Inbox The Inbox, shown in Figure 3, contains all new and previously read incoming messages until they are deleted from the phone.

To read new messages:

1. In the Messaging home screen, navigate down to Inbox.

2. Press the Go key. The Inbox screen, shown in Figure 3, appears.

3. Navigate down to the desired message.

4. Press the Go key. The complete message appears in the screen.

• To delete messages, press the Delete key.

• To return to the Inbox, press the Back key.

New Message The New Message screen, shown in Figure 4, allows users to send previously created messages to the back office.

Examples of preset messages may include:

• Start Shift

• End Shift

• Start Job

• End Job

• Start Lunch

• End Lunch

• Start Break

• End Break

Previously created messages are entered into the GeoManager system by the administrator. If you have any questions about these messages, please contact your GeoManager administrator.

To send a new message:

1. In the Trimble Msg screen, navigate down to New Message.

2. Press the OK key. A screen appears with the previously defined messages.

3. Navigate down to the desired message.

4. Press the GO key. A screen appears with the message on it.

5. Press the Send key. A ‘Sending Message’ dialog box appears while the message is being sent and a single tone is heard from the phone. The user is then returned to the Messaging home screen.

Any messages that are currently being sent show in the Outbox, shown in Figure 8.

New Form The New Form screen, shown in Figure 6, allows users to enter information into previously created forms and send them to the back office.

Forms are unique to every company, so fields will vary from company to company. To learn about creating forms, please refer to the GeoManager Admin and User Guide.

To send a new form:

1. In the Messaging home screen, navigate down to New Form.

2. Press the OK or Go key. The Forms screen appears.

3. Navigate down to the desired form. For this example, the Vehicle Number form was used.

4. Press the Go key. The Vehicle Number form, shown in Figure 6, appears.

5. Enter the form information using the 9-digit keypad. For alphabetic text, most letters require pressing a key more than once.

While most forms default to the required alpha or numeric key set, there are times when the text types are intermixed. To switch from alpha to numeric or some other text type:

a. Press the Menu key. The Form Menu dialog box, shown in Figure 9, appears.

b. Navigate down to Mode.

c. Press the OK key. A new selection menu, shown in Figure 7, appears.

d. Navigate down to the desired text type. Choices are:

• 123

• abc

• Symbols

• Smileys

• Emoticons

e. Press the OK key. The new text type choice shows in the small gray box below the current form field.

6. After entering information into a field, use the navigation key to move down to the next field.

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all fields are completed.

8. After all the information is entered, press the Menu key.

9. Navigate to Send.

10. Press the OK key. An audible beep sounds and the screen changes to a Sending Form screen, shown in Figure 9.

Outbox The Outbox, shown in Figure 8, contains all the messages that are in the process of being sent as well as copies of all the messages sent until they are deleted.

TimeConnect The TimeConnectSM feature of Pocket Edition allows users to send Current Status and Next Action information to the back office, which helps verify the time spent on each job throughout the day.

The TimeConnect screen, shown in , shows the Current Status information, including the last status the user sent to the back office.

To change the Current Status:

1. In the TimeConnect screen, navigate down to the new status.

2. Press the Go or OK key. A Confirmation screen, shown in Figure 12, appears.

3. Press Send to send the new status to the back office. The screen returns to the TimeConnect screen showing the new status.

Press Cancel to return to the TimeConnect screen.

Application Diagnostics The Diagnostics (Diag) screen, shown in Figure 13, shows the user what the current diagnostics for the application on the phone are. While this information is not used in day-to-day activities, it is helpful for troubleshooting purposes.

Current Location The Location screen, shown in Figure 14, shows the user their last/current location in Latitude and Longitude, as well as the time. If the user is moving more than five miles-per-hour (mph), the Location screen also shows the number of Satellites within range, current Speed and State.

Note: If the user is traveling at less than five mph, activity reports will show zero mph but the mileage will be updated.

Reset Serial Number and PIN The Reset SN/PIN screen, shown in Figure 15, exits the GeoManager application on the phone and returns the user to the main screen.

Note: Users should not reset the serial number and PIN without authorization from the back office.

Troubleshooting Application Freeze If the GeoManager application freezes on the phone for any reason, the application needs to be restarted. To restart the application:

1. Remove the battery by opening the panel on the back of the device.

2. Replace the battery back in the proper position and close the panel.

3. Press the END key to switch on the device.

4. The phone will start and the application will launch automatically.

Data Connectivity If the device is moving but the activity is not recording in GeoManager, then the phone could be experiencing a data connectivity issue.

1. Navigate to the Diagnostics screen in the Trimble application. You will see an S/Q entry.

If the number beside this S/Q shows 3/x [where x is any number] for more than a few minutes, then there is a Data Connectivity issue.

Before you proceed to the next steps, make sure the device has good network coverage.

2. Press the END key to switch off the device.

3. Press the END key again to switch on the device. The phone will start and the application will also be launched automatically.

4. After a few minutes, verify in GeoManager that the previously missing points or activity are showing.
