GEOLOGICAL REPORT CLAIM #L-803495 - BOMPAS TWP.

LOCATION:

Claim L-803495 is located in the southeast corner of Bompas Twp., approximately one half (1/2) mile southwest of the point where the Blanche River empties into Kenogami Lake.

The location is approximately the northwest 1/4 of the south 1/2 of lot l, concession II, Bompas Township.

HISTORY:

This property has been staked and restaked many times over the years.

In 1934, Charles M. Stanbury wrote a report on the property then known as the Lady Lou Developing and Mining Syndicate. At that time, the property consisted of 7 claims with two shallow shafts. Further shaft work was completed and the equipment was left on site. Gold assays of .13 to 1.28 oz./ton are reported.

In 1949 W. S. Savage, Resident Geologist (O.D.M.) visited the property which was then known as the Tomlinson Property. The apparent reason for the visit was a search for uranium mineralization. The property consisted of 6 claims.

In 1954, Sylvanite Gold Mines Ltd., Exploration Department, visited the property. Traces of Chalcopyrite and Galena were reported. No recommendations were included in the report. James A. Grant (in O.D.M. Geological Report #30/1964) mentioned this property on page 13 under "Suggestions for Prospectors" and remarks that the Cobalt sediments close to the volcanics carry some mineralization.

On page 15 under "Mineral Occurances", he reports pyrite, chalcopyrite and galena in a fracture zone.

The claim is presently held by two Kirkland Lake prospectors, Arden Stewart and Robert Dans.

FIELD WORK;

In 1987, a geological survey was undertaken. Grubbing and stripping as required by the survey was accomplished by hand labour as the bridge across the Blanche River has been removed thus eliminating the only access to the property.

A program of sampling the dumps and the larger quartz veins was carried out simultan eously. This program is an extension of the sampling program started in 1986. Assay results will be filed separately.

A radiometric survey was also carried out. The report of this work will be filed at a later date.

TOPOGRAKK:

topography of the area is quite rugged. The ground elevation varies from approx imately 1,100 feet in the southeast part of the claim to 1,200 feet or more in the northwest part of the claim.

GEOLOGY:

The claim is underlain by Cobalt Arkose, Greywacke. The rocks are medium to coarse grained and vary in colour from greyish black to light brown.

In the dump next to the southern most shaft (No. 2), a fine grained dark rock is found; this has been identified by Grant (1) as fine grained diabase.

The old reports suggest that the shafts bottom is greenstone and report a greenstone outcrop in the creek to the northweast of No. l shaft, however, the author was unable to locate this outcrop.

The outcrops contain many quartz veins from 1/16" to 5". Most of the veins are less than 1/4" and veins in excess of l" either individually or in aggregate are few, mostly concentrated in the shaft area.

Most of the quartz veins and all of the larger veins strike N60 w. Occasionally, small veins are found striking N30E.

Pyrite and chalcopyrite are found associated with the quartz veins in the dumps in the shaft area. However, the quartz veins in other areas appear to be barren. Results of the sampling program will confirm or deny this observation.

In the northwest part of the claim (line 10N-4west), a horizontal slate like band 8" to 10" thick is present. This band shows many small fault movements from 8" to 24" vertical displacement. This slate band can also be seen in a large boulder near the No. 2 post of Claim L-803495.

BRIEF GEOLOGICAL REPORT

ON

LADY LOU DEVELOPING A MINING SYNDICATE

This company owns seven claims: L.11832, L.24313, L.24314, L.32436, L.32437 and 29737 in the township of Bompas, and L.36020 in Grenfell township. These claims are situated on the north western end of Kenogami Lake and in the western part of the Kirkland Lake gold belt.

Cheap transportation to the property is afforded by means of boat or barge up the Blanche River and across Kenogami Lake, a distance of eight miles.

The rocks exposed on the claims consist principally of Keewatin lavas cut by three dikes of Feldspar Porphyry showing Red Feldspar phenocrysts similar to the Kirkland Lake intrusions. A series of Quartz veins, seven in number, run parallel to the largest of the dikes. The veins strike generally E. 20' S., which lines up the structure with the Kirkland Lake producers.

Number four (4) of the veins is interesting as it lies wholly in the

Porphyry. From channel samples taken where the vein was 2-4 feet wide, Mr. L. L. Boyer, B.Se., M.E., reports assay values varying from S2.80 to S26.40 per ton in Gold, gold being valued at S20.66 an ounce. This vein has been traced at

intervals for 1,200 feet in length.

On each side of vein Number 4, at contact of the country rock (kee watin Lava) and the Porphyry are veins Number 5 and 3. These are well mineral ized with Iron and Copper Pyrites and are similar in structure to the veins in

the lower levels of Sylvanite.

Numbers 2, 2s and 6, Veins parallel to these last mentioned are sit uated entirely in the Keewatin lavas, well mineralized and opening up in places

to widths of ten feet. Exploration of these by means of trenching could be

done very cheaply as the overburden is light, and as they are situted on the

side of a high hill.

Page 8: GEOL RPT CL L-803495 BOMPAS TWP - Ontario · a.i0375 compass 010 geological report claim l-803495 bompas township received: sep 21 w7 mining iahds secton l. k. oliver, p. eng. august

Situated at nearly right angle to the structure described, striking

N 48' E. is a very strong break, standing open between sharp walls at a width

of 5-7 feet. This structure is in line with Kirkland Consolidated and Golden

Summit and is traced at intervals for over 1,500 feet. The rock has been weak

ened by the movement as to form a creek bed, the creek wandering slightly

through the soft lava but passing through the open break when it strikes the

harder Porphyry. The vein material is composed of country rock breccia much

altered and replaced by Silica solution carrying Copper, Lead, and Iron Sulph

ides, with Silver and Gold. The much altered nature of this material has allow

ed the creek waters to decompose it to considerable depth, approximately 50

feet.

The gossan, (ie. what remains after leaching) is composed of second

ary Galena, native Copper, Iron oxides, Sericite and some native Silver.

This break has been opened up by two shafts of 42 ft., 38 ft. respect

ively. It is proposed by the owners to sink number 2 shaft deeper. There

is a complete plan on the property for this purpose, comprising of a 30 h.p.

boiler, a Jenkins hoist 6x8, boiler feed and steam pumps, both Fairbanks

Morse, and one light Ingersoll Rand sinker.

I consider this property to be a very good geological "Bet". The

claims are located where two strong structures intersect, and one structure

is similar to the Kirkland Lake producers.

A comparatively small sum, well spent, on this property would have

every cahnce of finding a "Winner".

Signed,

C. M. Stanbury.

TOMLINSON PROPERTY

Bompas Township

A brief visit was made to this property on the afternoon of August 8, 1949. The writer was accompanied by Gar. and Herb. Tomlinson and Roy Thompson.

Property

The property consists of a group of five unpatented and one patented claim in the SE1/4 of Bompas Township. The claim numbers are as follows:

Patented claim: LI 1832 Unpatented Claims: L24313-14, L29737, L32436-37

Part of the township line between Bompas and Grenfell townships, north of the No. l milepost, forms the east boundaries of claims 24314, 32436, and 11832.

Access

The NE corner of claim (P) 11832 is on the shore of NW bay of Kenogami Lake and can be easily reached by boat. No. 11 Highway crosses the Blanche River where it flows out of Kenogami Lake in Grenfell Township. An old camp, now in disrepair, is located near the shore of the lake on claim (P) 11832. A trail leads from this camp to the old workings on claim 29737.

General Geology

Map 1934a (Ontario Department of Mines) shows the north half of Bom pas township marked "not examined". Sediments of Cobalt age occupy the greater part of the south half of the township and underlie the claims in question. The granite in Dunmore township to the west extends for l 1/2 miles into Bompas the contact with the Cobalt sediments striking approx. N-S. Greenstone is shown in the SW corner of the township and also in the neighbourhood of the III milepost on the east (Bompas-Grenfell) boundary.

Prospecting S Development Work

Considerable development work was done on claim 29737 in the early 1920's. No. l shaft was sunk to a depth of approximately 50 ft. The old hoist house, containing the rusty hoist, can still be seen. No. 2 shaft is located approximately 100 ft. SW of No. l and is said to be 40 ft. in depth. These old workings are full of water. No new work has been done on the property for many years. Trenches have filled in by slumping and are overgrown by vegetation.

No. l shaft was sunk on a quartz vein, l to 2 ft. wide which strikes S 78 E and dips 80 S. Gold values up to l oz. per ton are reported. The vein can still be seen in an old trench which extends west from the shaft. The FW in the trench is a slip face. This vein is said to have been cut off in the shaft by a fault striking NE-SW.

Page 10: GEOL RPT CL L-803495 BOMPAS TWP - Ontario · a.i0375 compass 010 geological report claim l-803495 bompas township received: sep 21 w7 mining iahds secton l. k. oliver, p. eng. august

Another deep trench, striking N 400 E from the shaft, which is bounded by two vertical walls about 6' apart, is supposedly the locus of this fault. This trench extends downhill and during the spring run-off evidently gives rise to a temporary creek. Approximately 80 ft. NE from the shaft a quartz vein about l ft. wide can be seen in the SE wall of the trench. This vein, presumed to be the faulted continuation of the shaft vein, strikes S 75 E. It contains rare specks of chalcopyrite and is said to have given a gold assay of S30.00 per ton from a grab sample. The wall rock, which is reddish Cobalt arkose, is brecciated by fine quartz stringers. The Cobalt sediments apparently overlie Keewatin greenstone and are not very thick in this vicinity. The old shafts are reported to have bottomed in greenstone, and find trained basic lava outcrops downhill NE from No. l shaft in the bed of the above-mentioned creek.

The second shaft is said to have been sunk on a quartz-galena vein exposed about 100 ft. SW of No. l shaft. This vein, which is now under water, supposedly occurs in the fault which passes through No. l shaft. Blocky frag ments of arkose with considerable development of epidote can be seen on the old rock dump. Some of these fragments are cut by narrow, vuggy stringers of epidote-carbonate-quartz, and contain rare blobs of chalcopyrite and galena.

The possibility of the occurrence of uranium-bearing minerals (prob ably suggested by the presence of the green epidote) was the reason for the visit. The Geiger Counter showed no evidence of radioactivity.

A report on the property was written by C. M. Stanbury B.Se. in 1934. Gar. Tomlinson promised to provide the writer with a copy of this report.

SYLVANITE GOLD MINES, LIMITED EXPLORATION DEPARTMENT

TOMLINSON PROPERTYOctober 6th, 1954.

(Bompas Township)

W. S. Savage, District Geologist, reports that he visited this prop erty on August 8th, 1949, to check on the possible presence of uranium which was suggested by the presence of green epidote in blocky fragments of arkose.

The property consisted at that time of 6 claims - L.11832 (patented) L.24313-14, L.29737, L.32436-37 (unpatented). The east boundaries of. claims 24314, 32436 and 11832 lie on the township line between Bompas and Grenfell Townships north of the #1 Mile post.

Map 1934a (Ontario) shows north half of Bompas 'not examined 1 . The south half is shown as mostly Cobalt sediments. Granite extends l 1/2 miles into Bompas township with the granite-cobalt sediment contact nearly N-S. Some greenstone is shown in the SW corner and near the III mile post on the east boundary.

No. l shaft was sunk in the 1920's on claim 29737 to a depth of about 50 feet. No. 2 shaft is about 100 feet SW of No. l and is reported to be 40 feet deep. No work has been done for many years and the shafts are full of water and the trenches have slumped and are overgrown.

No. l shaft was sunk on a l to 2 foot quartz vein striking S 780 E and dipping 80 S. Gold values to l oz. have been reported. The vein is visible in a trench west from the shaft. It is said to have been cut off in the shaft by a NE-SW fault.

There is another trench striking N 400 E from #1 shaft which has two vertical walls about 6 feet apart which is supposed to mark the fault.

About 80 feet N.E. from this shaft a quartz vein about l foot wide can be seen in .the S.E. wall of the trench which is supposed to be the same vein faulted. It strikes S 75 E. Rare specks of chalcopyrite can be seen. A grab is reported to have given l 1/2 oz. The wall rock of reddish Cobalt arkose is brecciated by fine quartz stringers.

The old shafts are reported to have bottomed in greenstone. Fine grained basic lava outcrops downhill N.E. from #1 shaft in the bottom of the trench.

No. 2 shaft is reported to have been sunk on a quartz-galena vein which is exposed about 100 feet S.W. of No. l shaft. It supposedly lies in the fault which passes through No. l Shaft. Some of the fragments of arkose on the dump carry considerable epidote with narrow vuggy stringers of epidote - carbonate-quartz containing a few blebs of chalcopyrite and galena.

See report by Stanbury on Lady Lou Development and Mining Syndicate.
