1..0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 This report was prepared pursuant to a requestfrom the Directors of Northern Platinum Ltd., Suite 800,543 Granville Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V6C 1X8.

1.2 The purpose of this report is to summarize and

evaluate the results of the previous mineral development

work performed on the KANICHEE Mine property and assess

the mine-making potential of the claim group.

1.3 This report is based upon an examination of the ground, previously known as the Trebor Mine, on August 18, 1958 and again on February 15, 1988, as well as a study of available reports, maps, records and personal communications.

1.4 A program of mineral exploration is recommended*

2.0 SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

2.1 The KANICHEE MINE is held by Northern Platinum Ltd.

2.2 The property consists of fifteen contiguous leased mineral claims, 582.73 acres (235.83 hectares), located in Strathy Township Temagami Area, Northeastern Ontario.

2.3 Access to the property is by logging road leading

westward some 4^ km from Net Lake on Highway No. 11. Net

Lake is located about 4-f km north of the Town of Temagami,

Nipissing District. The City of North Bay is situated at

the junction of Highways No. 11 and 17 some 110 road km to

the south-south-east.

2.4 The KANICHEE Mine was formerly known as the Cunip-

tau Mine. It was discovered in the period just prior toDON TULLY ENGINEERING LTD.SUITE 12O5, 55S-13TH STREET

2.

World War I. In 1934, a vertical shaft was sunk to a depth of 24 feet and lateral mine development amounting to 2,200

feet was carried out on the 100-foot and 225-foot level ele

vations. The property consisted of eleven claims at that

time and has changed ownership at least seven times since 1938. An agreement covering the present group of 15 claims

was filed in favour of Northern Platinum Ltd., on January 13, 1988.

2.5 The geology of the claim area is early Pre-Cam-

brian in age. The basement rocks are Keewatin basic and

acidic volcanics which have been intruded by pre-Algoman diorite, quartz-diorite, diabase (Haileyburian or Nipissing)

and an ultramafic mass of peridotite. Later Algoman felsic

intrusives and lamprophyre dykes have been mapped. A Kee-

weenan diabase dyke occurs with the copper-nickel sulphide mineralization in the open-pit area just west of the shaft.

The trend of the basement geology is northeasterly. Fault

structures interpreted from magnetic surveys and topographic linears trend north-northeast.

2.6 Abundant chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, pyrite mineral

ization has been indicated on the KANICHEE MINE property.

A large mass of disseminated sulphides carrying copper,

nickel, cobalt, gold, silver, platinum and palladium miner

alization has been developed in a north-trending apophysis of an ultrabasic (peridotite) intrusive by diamond drilling.

The core of this mass of copper-nickel bearing pyrrhotite,

chalcopyrite and pyritic body was mined out from underground

and by open pit during the operations by Cunipitau Mines

during the 1934-1936 period. At that time, the shaft re mained intact. Later operations in 1974-1975 by Kanichee

Mining and Jack Koza Limited enlarged the open pit and removed the shaft pillar. The open pit and the underground workings

are now floodedo The earlier (pre-1974) ore calculations

have been depleted as a result of the Kanichee-Mining Inc. -

Mining handbooks record a 500-ton mill was erected and production was commenced in the first quarter of 1974 by the Kanichee Mining - Jack Koza Limited Joint Venture .

2.11 Numerous metallurgical test project results indi

cate no concentrating problems other than a preliminary talc float prior to flotation of the copper and nickel concen trates.

2.12 A total of 165 diamond drill holes have been ac counted for on the Kanichee mine property. 155 of these

holes totalled 50,365 feet of diamond drilling.

2.13 The host rock of the sulphides bearing the copper- nickel, precious metal and platinum group metals, is a peri

dotite with serpentinized horizons to elongate along a NE-

trend. The peridotite mass is oval to elongate along a NE-

trend in configuration. The body appears to dip to the

northeast and plunge to the southeast. An apophysis of the

peridotite occurs in the north-northwest perimeter of the

main mass which has been compiled on Figure 5 from various

reports and file records. The sulphides are chiefly pyrite,

pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite and occur as disseminated blebs

and aggregates. Higher values occur with quartz veins and veinlets and massive to heavily mineralized aggregates of

the sulphides. Copper-nickel mineralization is frequently

found in the peridotite mass in the contact areas of the

basic lava host rocks, as shown on Figure 30 in D.D. Holes CO-20 and CO-21.

2.14 The Kanichee Mineral deposit may be tentatively

classified as orthomagmatic. B.F. Liar d mapped the property

in 1961 and advanced the concept of the mixing of more than

one magma from field mapping evidence and the sulphide min

eral deposit forming within the magmatic environment of the

Ajax Intrusion.

2.15 It is concluded the Kanichee Mining Property isan excellent exploration bet in a favourable geological en vironment to discover more deposits of copper-nickel with PGM metal content.

2.16 A program of mineral exploration is recommended

at an estimated total cost of 1251,377.

3.0 PROPERTY - LOCATION, ACCESS, PHYSIOGRAPHY

AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

3.1 The group of claims comprising the KANICHEE MINE

property consists of fifteen contiguous mineral leases lo

cated in the west central sector of Strathy Township, some

five kilometres northwest of the Town of Temagami, North

eastern Ontario. The claims have been surveyed and cover

an area of 582.73 acres (235.83 ha).DON TULLY ENGINEERING LTD.SUITE 1205, 553-UTM STREET

6.

3.2 The City of North Bay is located about 110 road

km to the southeast of the property at the junction of Hwy

11 and Hwy 17. Access to the ground is by logging road some

4i km extending westward from Hwy 11 at Net Lake as 'shown on

Figure 3. The former railway station of Goward (now called

North Temagami) is noted on many of the older maps of the

area on the north side of Net Lake. The Ontario Northland

Railway traverses the country, more or less parallel to Hwy

11, en route to Cobalt and points northward to Cochrane.

Cobalt is situated some 35 km to the north of the claim area

where the Office of the Resident Geologist for the Ontario

Geological Survey is located.

3.3 The topography is of low relief and ranges between

elevations of +980 feet and * 1,075 feet above sea-level. The

topographic trend is northeasterly and is marked by a series

of low, rocky ridges and intervening valleys of muskeg with

a few small ponds or lakes.

3.4 The overburden is sand, gravel and glacial boulders.

3.5 The timber is spruce, jackpine, birch and poplarof relatively small size, having been ravaged by forest fires over the years.

3.6 Kanichee Lake borders the claim group in the north east extremity of the property. Ample water is available for any immediate industrial purpose. Hydro electric power lines are present at the Strathcona Iron Mine currently producing some 4 km to the south of the Kanichee minesite (Figure 3).

3.7 In the environmental sense, the property area is considered to be sensitive by reason of an ownership of CAUTION filed by the Timagami Band of Native Indians. All staking was banned in Strathy Township effective March 16, 1984.

4.2 The claims are shown on Claim Map (Figure 4).

5.0 HISTORY - PREVIOUS DEVELOPMENT

5.1 The area of Strathy Township was first mapped

during the 1887-95 period by A.E. Barlow for the Geological

Survey of Canada. Iron deposits in the Temagami Area were

mapped and described by A.P. Coleman and W.G. Millar for

the Ontario Department of Mines during 1899-1901.

5*2 One leased claim of the present claim group, EB 26,

was staked in 1910 and surveyed in 1911. Claim TR 3187 was

surveyed in 1915 and leased by H.G. Watkins in 1916. Most

of the remaining thirteen claims of the present group of 15

were surveyed and leased during the period 1922-1934, Cuni-

pitau Mines Limited acquired eleven of these claims numbered

EB 26, TR 3187 and TRT 3448, 4310, 4311, 4369, 4370, 4371,

4381, 5953, 5954, totalling 440 acres, in 1932. According

to a report by P.E. Hopkins, the property was controlled in

1929 by H.G. Watkins when platinum was first reported here.

5.3 Prospecting for iron was carried out in the Tima-

gami Lake Area prior to and during the period of World War I.

A shipment of iron pyrites was made by the Rand Syndicate in

1916 from claim TR 3187. National Mines of Cobalt optioned

the claims in 1919 and did a limited amount of diamond drill

ing. (See OGS-GDIF #201, p. 27).

hole (65.5 feet in depth) was drilled in preparation for a shaft sinking in 1934. This same year, Cunipitau Mines

sank a vertical shaft to 245 feet with levels at the 100- foot and 225-foot elevations on claim TR 3187. Some 2,200

feet of lateral undergound was also done. This work out

lined a body of disseminated chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite containing pockets and veins of massive sulphide mineralization associated with quartz-carbonate veining.

The body of disseminated and massive sulphide mineraliza

tion was calculated to have an average north-south dimen sion of some 300 feet and an average width of about 60 feet.

The grade was calculated to be 1.49 percent combined copper-

nickel after dilution. T.H. Janes stated in his report for Trebor Mines Limited dated October 6, 1948, that a 50-ton

pilot smelter plant had operated at the minesite during

1936 and had milled 212,000 pounds of matte containing:

98,924 Ibs. copper

65,434 Ibs. nickel 37.02 ounces of gold

82.7 ounces of platinum 196.28 ounces of palladium

909.90 ounces of silver

According to Janes, two bulk samples were shipped from the minesite and the results were as follows:

share basis. Trebor Mines Limited was incorporated in 1947

and acquired a group of claims which are the core of the

present property from both Ontario Nickel Mines and Tima-

gami Gold Mines Ltd.

5.6 T.H. Janes reported magnetometer and electrical

surveys had been carried out during the late summer of 1947.

The magnetometer survey was said to have outlined a strong

north-trending magnetic anomaly in the area of the Cunipitau

Shaft, within which zones of electrical conductivity were

located.

5.7 J.T. Randall reported on a program of geological

mapping, magnetometer and resistivity geophysical surveying

done over a portion (five claims) of the Trebor Mines Limi

ted property during the period of November 10 - December 8,

1948. The field work was done by the Geo-Technical Develop

ment Company Limited. Randall described the geology of the

map-area in detail and an offsetting fault in the zone of mineralization at the northern extremity of the peridotite

mass. He outlined six magnetic anomalies (A, B, C, D, E, F)

and reasoned that the resistivity survey had indicated sev

eral northeast trending shear zones.

5.8 Walter A. Rukeyser, Managing Director, Trebor Mines Limited, further evaluated the results of the 1947 and 1948

programs of geophysical surveying and commenced a program

of diamond drilling and spontaneous polarization (Self-Poten

tial) geophysical surveying to test those zones indicated by Randall as having high electrical conductivity (low resisti

vity). On April 8, 1949 Rukeyser reported that 508,000 tons

had been blocked out by diamond drilling southeast of the

shaft and were ready for open-cut mining. He quoted an

average grade of 0.15^ (1.4596?) combined copper-nickel con

tent with a gross value of #0.657ton in precious metals at

prevailing prices. On February 15, 1950, Rukeyser further

reported:

a) 38,857 feet of diamond drilling in 128 diamond drill

holes of AXT core size had been completed on the prop erty and adjacent option ground.

b) Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited had performed a mag netometer survey on the property.

c) The Cuniptau Shaft had been de-watered and sampled.

d) Three zones (A, E and S-shaft) totalling 4,873,000 tons had been outlined having an estimated in-place value of 822,885,000 or S4.697ton at prevailing metal prices.

e) Shipments of bulk samples had been sent to the Depart ment of Mines, Ottawa and the Nepheline Products Company

for concentrate test purposes.

f) Interesting values in gold and silver, Sil. 37 over six

feet or S5.81 over sixteen feet when combined with ad

joining values, were intersected in one hole near the southwest corner of the Trebor Property. The location

and log of this drill hole have not been located.

5.9 B. Massey Williams in reporting on the TreborMines property on September 17, 1949 stated that the ton

nages and grades of the three zones had been calculated by Georges H. Dumont and were as follows:

710 Koulomzine, Geoffrey, Brossard ft Co., Val D'Or,

Quebec did an electrical geophysical survey in several of

the diamond drill holes in the mineralized zones during

December 1949 and January 1950. They concluded there

was strong potential for mineralization along the down

dip contact zones of the peridotite.

5.11 John C. Durabrille reported on the Trebor Mines

Strathy Township property on May 12, 1950 for interests

represented by a Mr. G.H. Jackson. He calculated the

indicated ore reserves in five zones and concluded as follows:

Combined pt Tons Cu * Ni S

Total 4,727,500 0.62# SO.69

" The values in the closely drilled areas (1,297,000 tons) are apparently commercial. The tonnages in

Y the south areas, not fully drilled, are low, but ^ drilling may outline better grade sections of these

areas. "

5.12 The General Engineering Co. (Canada) Ltd. did a

study of the possibility of mining a section of the drill

indicated ore zone under the direction of W.S. Hargraft.

The report, dated April 3, 1952, concluded that some

800,000 - 850,000 tons grading 0.38# nickel and 0.65#

copper could be profitably concentrated into a bulk con

centrate at a 4:1 ratio. The recoveries from this complex

concentrate were estimated to range between 83.5# of the

copper to 59^ of the palladium and recommended a smelter contract arrangement be considered. Hargraft noted the

metallurgical tests showed the presence of talc in the ore.

5.13 OGS - GDIF 201 (page 39) reports five diamond drill holes numbered E-l, E-2, E-3, E-4, E-5 totalling 1,055 feet

were drilled in 1953. These, holes, were not located on the

present claim group. In 1954, hole N-l was also reported

(page 38) drilled to a depth of,320 feet. All these holes

showed sulphides (APPENDIX 4.).

5.14 On May 18, 1956, George D. Purse studied the re

cords of the previous development on the property and con

cluded three magnetic anomalies had not yet been tested by

diamond drilling. He indicated the peridotite contact

should be further investigated in the area of claim TRT 4311

for mineralization.

5.15 In April 1961, Ajax Minerals Limited acquired

control of Trebor Mines Limited on a l for 4 share basis.

5*16 Georges H. Dumont, who was resident engineer at

the Trebor Mines property during the diamond drill program

in 1949-50, reported on the Trebor ground for Ajax Minerals

on May l, 1961. By this time the property had been increased to 15 contiguous leased claims covering an area of 582.73

acres in the west-central part of Strathy Township. Dumont

stated the Shaft (S) orebody had been diamond drilled with 80 holes on 50-foot centres. He gave a detailed account

of the geological setting of the mineral deposits and the

results of the metallurgical testing. Dumont outlined three zones of copper-nickel mineralization as follows:

Precious l Tons Copper Nickel Metals

Dumont reported that the total footage of diamond

drilling on the property was 40,915 feet (instead of the

figure of 38,857 feet reported by W.A. Rukeyser in his re

port of February 15, 1950) (APPENDIX 4).

5.17 According to Robert F. Liard, P.Eng., L.G. Phelan

logged D.D. Holes D-l through D-ll in late 1961 and wrote

Progress Reports on this work dated December l, 8, 21, 1961

and January 2 and February 5, 1962. These reports and the

logs of the diamond drill holes are apparently not available.

Figure 23 shows some of these drill holes with substantial

assay results. - .

5.18 According to R.F. Liard, McPhar Geophysics carried

out an induced polarization and resistivity survey over the

claim group for Trebor Mines under date of January 31, 1962. This report is apparently not available. Liard also reported

Hunting Survey Corporation carried out a Turam electromag

netic survey over the claim area for Trebor Mines in 1961.

This report dated September 1961 and the Turam survey data also do not appear to be available.

5.19 The Ajax Minerals property was again reviewed byR.M. Williams on June 12, 1961, who noted that the ore zones

did not lie entirely on the company ground and may occupy

part of adjacent claims numbered TR 1623 and TR 2911. He

recommended a claim survey in the area of the ore zones to

establish the actual tonnage owned by Ajax Minerals.

5.20 Robert F. Liard prepared a summary report on the

Strathy Township property for Ajax Minerals on July 9, 1962.

He had previously mapped the geology of these claims in 1961

and supervised the drilling of eleven diamond drill holes, aggregating 3,440.2 ft.during the period of November 1961

through February 1962 on the "North" anomaly zone. He

reported his geological mapping had designated four areas

according to his report as the "North", "Central", "Mag Anom

aly" and "South" zones for further exploration. He noted

high-grade values in copper over short core lengths in D.D.

Hole 9D.

5.21 On October 9, 1964, R.M. UTilliams prepared a further

report on the Ajax Minerals claim holdings in Strathy Town

ship and recommended further diamond drill testing and also a survey of the claim lines in the area of the mine shaft.

5.22 John C. Dumbrille evaluated the Ajax Mines (Trebor

Mines) property in Strathy Township on February 9, 1966 and concluded that 900,000 tons of medium to low grade ore out

crops at the bedrock surface at the mineshaft site was ready

for open-pit mining. According to Dumbrille, this mineral

ization covers an area some 500 feet in north-south dimension

to the 200-foot subsurface level. He submitted a grade of

this proposed open-pit ore ass

Copper - 0.85#Nickel - 0.56#Cobalt - 0.03#Gold - 0.01 oz/tonSilver - 0.17 oz/tonPlatinum - 0.02 oz/tonPalladium - 0.03 oz/ton

Dumbrille recommended the production of a concen trate at the minesite on a ratio of 11.5 ' l that would con

tain 656- copper and 3^ nickel with 0.05 oz/ton PGM plus gold,

silver and cobalt.

5.23 Dumbrille further reported on May 12, 1966 that the present open-pit be rehabilitated and resampled for

metallurgical test purposes. J. Koza was reported to have drilled this ground in 1966 (OGS-GDIF #201, pp. 21, 35).

16.

5.24 Dumbrille again studied the property mineraliza

tion in his report dated August 18, 1966 and recommended

that negotiations be opened with the owner of claim TRT 1623,

on which ground some of the shaft area mineralization appears

to occur. He also recommended that metallurgical testing be

performed on bulk samples from the proposed open-pit zone in

the Cunipitau mine-shaft area.

5.25 S'.V. Burr carried out a Self-Potential survey over

a portion of the Ajax Minerals claim group and diamond drill

ed five holes,SB-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, totalling 1,732 feet in the

period January 21 - February 15, 1968. This work was filed

for assessment purposes. Burr recommended trenching of anom

alies resulting from a self-potential survey over claim

TRT 5953. Two other diamond holes (D-9, D-10) were also

reported drilled (see OGS - GDIF #201, p. 29).

5.26 A report by E.L. MacVeigh, Haileybury, Ontario on

the Strathy Township Mining Area dated March 6, 1969, indi

cates he had numerous files on the early developments and

maps of the geophysical surveys at the Cuniptau Mine prop

erty, later known as the Trebor Mine and Ajax Minerals property.

5.27 J.M. Kilpatrick reported on March 16, 1970 forAjax Minerals and reviewed the previous developments on the

property. He discussed the results of a metallurgical test

by L.T. Higgins on a 400!-pound sample taken across the Shaft

Orebody. Higgins had previously done metallurgical tests

for General Engineering Co. Ltd. in January and February,

1953. Kilpatrick reported that the talc content of the ore

would need to be removed by separate flotation with a loss

of one percent of the contained metal. He also indicated

an 8 5?o r ecovery could be expected by producing a bulk con

centrate of both the copper and nickel. He concluded the

property contained areas where mineral exploration was war

ranted and recommended the present zones of mineralization

be diamond drilled to establish extension and continuity.

Kilpatrick proposed a bulk sample of the mineralization be

collected and forwarded to Lakefield Research for test pur poses.

5.28 Falconbridge Nickel Mines optioned the Ajax Min

erals property as well as a claim group adjoining on the southwest in 1971. Falconbridge drilled 1,754 feet of

sample-drilling for bulk-sample test purposes on the 5-

Shaft orebody. lil addition, 1,005 feet of AQ core size diamond drilling in two holes was drilled on a claim

L-244812 some 800 metres to the southwest of the Ajax

Minerals property. J.A. Kelly supervised the work program

for Falconbridge.

The results of the bulk-test sample were not submitted.

5.29 D.G. Wahl, P.Eng. for W.G. Wahl Limited, prepared

a detailed appraisal of the Ajax mineralization for Jack Koza Limited dated June 2, 1972. The property at that time

comprised thirty-two mineral claims which included the pre

sent leased claims. Wahl calculated the ore reserves in the Shaft Orebody and the A-Orebody as follows:

The A - Orebody is located south of the diabase

dyke near the Shaft Orebody. Wahl reported he had computed

the grade and tonnage from the diamond drill data and it

compared well with earlier calculations. He concluded the

mine would have a life of 2.4 years at a mill rate of 500

tpd per calendar year. Wahl's report indicates that the

files of W.G. Wahl Limited and Jack Koza Limited could have

substantial diamond drill hole and assay data (Figure 14 ).

5.30 Lakefield Research tested samples for the commer

cial recovery of nickel and copper during the summer of

1972. The results of two flotation tests showing the sep

aration of the final concentrates for copper and nickel

were as follows:

A.C. Scobie reported on the testwork for Lakefield and recommended further studies on the optimization of the regrinding conditions for better recovery results. Scobie noted the presence of talc in the bulk test.

5.31 A magnetometer and VLF-EM survey was carried out over Ajax Minerals property during the summer of 1973 by Richard C. Beard, P.Eng. Beard described six magnetic anomalies and four VLF-EM conductor anomalies. The plans for these surveys are apparently not available.

5.32 Kanichee Mining Incorporated was formed during

the early 1970's. It was filed as c/o Belleterre (Quebec)

Mines Ltd. Kanichee Mining acquired a 3 0fo interest in the

Quebec Mines Limited and Jack Koza Limited. The agreement

envisioned the construction of a 500-tpd mill on the Ajax

property. Production commenced in early 1974o At that

time, the Ajax property was reported as having ore reserves

calculated at 0.75^ copper and 0.42^ nickel with precious metal content additional. The operation was under the dir

ection of Jack Koza Limited, a private company, and it is

reported all operations ceased in early 1976. Production

was from the previous open pit area (Figure 23). Records of this production are apparently not available* Kanichee

Mining Incorporated went into receivership late in 1976 and Ajax Minerals Limited was dissolved on February 14, 1978.

5.33 Northern Platinum Ltd. carried out a program of

baseline and line control establishment and NQ core size diamond drilling during October-December 1987. A total

of 680.19 metres (2,231.02 feet) of core was drilled in

five holes and 8.75 km of line-cutting was done.

7.0 REGIONAL AND LOCAL GEOLOGICAL SETTING

7.1 The general geology of the Kanichee Mine Property

and its environs is shown on Figure 6.

7..2 The property is underlain by Keewatin volcanicswhich range from mafic to felsic in composition with inter

calated horizons of tuffs and fragmental rocks. These Pre

cambrian rocks are intruded by pre-Algoman diorite, quartz

diorite, diabase and an oval-shaped mass of peridotite (Ajax

Intrusion). Dykes and masses of quartz porphyry and pink

granite of Algoman age, are present. Olivine-bearing diabase dykes of Keweenawan age are the latest of the suite of intru- sives.

7.4 A compilation of the property geology from portions

of maps of previous programs of geological mapping is shown on Figure 5. A new program of geological mapping is recom mended.

7.5 R.F. Liard, P.Eng., mapped the Kanichee Mine Prop erty for Ajax Minerals in 1961 and described the property

geology on pages 6-8 of his report dated July 9, 1962 as follows:

" On the Ajax repeated intrusion along a sheared contact zone between the rayolite and basic volcanics would account for the differentiated aspect of the complex occurring on theclaims.

The intrusive rocks vary from quartz diorite, southeast of Ajax to gabbro, "metadiabase", magnetite amphibolite de scribed in places as a fine grained magnetic basalt, mag netic peridotite, to scarce peridotite and serpentinized peridotite along the north and northeast margins.

28,

It is felt that the gabbroic and magnetic rocks were early in the sequence; they show the more intense alteration and evidence of intrusion by the diabases and peridotites.

The olivine diabase of "metadiabase" occurs along the south- east of the Ajax mass and appears to have reached surface in places as far north as Kamichee Lake, though outcrops near the lake are shown as Kaweenawan diabase on O.D.M. Map No. 532.

The peridotite, probably late in the sequence, due to its apparent underlying relationship can be considered the basal member for descriptive purposes.

The mass has been described as a basin whose axis plunges about 23 to the southeast. This concept appears to have been based on intensive drill hole evidence and on the shape of the outcrop area. The northeast alignment of the various members of the mass does tend to belie this con cept.

It is rather felt that locally the basic sills rolled, followed flat lying shear zones or were folded to the northeast.

Later erosion would present the peridotite as a rim along the north and northeast of a basin. To the north and south this peridotite horizon could be expected to occur, sill- like, along its original lines of strike.

The strike of the complex basic sill, conforming to the general structure of the area, would change from north east to north-northeast, nearer to Kanichee Lake. The intrusive, in such a case, would have a length, at surface, of more than one mile.

Faulting and shearing continued after the intrusion of all the rocks of the basic complex.

It should be noted that not only do peridotite rocks fol low the rim of the mass but do occur within its boundar ies. Some of the peridotite apparently followed the roll to the north while some intruded the early consolidated and faulted basic members.

This concept of repeated intrusions also tends to explain inclusions of "Keewatin rocks within the "basin". Some of the magnetic rocks may, in fact, be altered basaltic flows and acid to intermediate tuffs as well as metamor phosed peridotites.

In any case, known and postulated faults and shears are seen, and expected, to cut the basal peridotite where it follows the rim of the basin, where it can be projected

29.

" to the northeast and to the southwest, and where it can be expected to occur beneath the other members of the basic complex.

The peridotite can be expected to be highly fractured where it is bent from almost vertical to somewhat flat lying.

An alternative concept would have the peridotite occur ring as separate irregular sills conforming to regional trends as mentioned above.

Schistocity of all rock types strikes generally to the northeast and is steeply dipping.

A strong northeast striking fault running through the small lake east of the shaft has been crossed under ground. Other linears in the area also have various geo-physical evidence suggesting faults. "

8.0 MINERALIZATION - ASSAYS - 1987 D.D. PROGRAM

8.1 R.F. Liard, P.Eng., studied the mineralization

on the Kanichee Mine property when he mapped the geology for Ajax Minerals in 1961. His report dated July 9, 1962 has described the economic geology on pages 4 through 9 as follows:

" In general the Strathy Township property is underlain by Keewatin lavas ranging in composition from acid to basic. They consist of rhyolite, tuffs, agglomerates, andesite, basalt, and coarse dioritic greenstones. Intruded into these is a peridotite mass which is now largely altered to serpentine. In places, while drilling, quite a number of asbestos filled narrow fractures were encountered. Both formations, lavas and peridotite, have been subse quently intruded by a series of northeasterly, south westerly striking, east-dipping dykes of olivine diabase. A few quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes only have been en countered but the great number of chloritic dykes inter sected in the peridotite within the mineralized area suggests strongly that these last dykes have some sort of relation with the ore deposition and the sulphide mineralization found in the altered marginal peridotite.

DON TULLY ENGINEERING LTD.SUITE 1 205, 355-UTM STREET

Page 36: GEOL EVALUATION RPT ON THE KANICHEE MINE PROP · 2017-01-17 · 55,513 Copper 0.79 0.50 Nickel 0.44 0.2B Overburden (Cu.vds.) 37,789 12,893 (To Waste (tons) 427,920 91,820 be stockpiled)

30.

The copper-nickel sulphides are found disseminated nearly everywhere in the peridotite intrusive with concentrations and enrichments in sulphide of the margins and lowest parts of the magma. Their consolidation gave rise to basic altered zones with sulphide content up to 10 or 20 percent. In places before their final consolidation, the zones were subjected to disturbance, as shown by the intrusions of diabase and chloritic dykes, forcing the sulphides toward places of less pressure or open frac tures, thus forming irregular masses and narrow veinlike deposits of 50 to 75 percent sulphides. Some of these narrow massive sulphide veins were even injected from the main ore zone into the enclosing rocks. "

" Regarding the general behaviour of the whole intrusive mass, so far all data indicates that any east-westerly section through it shows that the bottom has the shape of a trough. The long axis of this trough would have a direction of S-35030 f E, and a slope of 230 to the SE. This long axis reaches surface a few feet north of Sec tion 200 N and goes deeper and deeper towards the SE: its cross-section widening continuously to the SE, with Section 200 N being only 100 feet wide while for instance Section 900 S is 2,000 feet wide. The trough is expected to be at least 3,000 feet along the axis. As nothing is known about the dip of the south contact, it is diffi cult at this time to say whether or not it will be longer along the axis. If the south contact dips north, the trough will be at its total length and the peridotite mass would then occupy a real basin. If the south eon- tact dins south. the trough may go many more thousand feet down along the slope and, moreover, mineralization may occur in the top zone of the peridotite under the lavas in addition to the other walls and the bottom. "

8.2 G.H. Dumont, P. Eng., calculated the ore reserves

on the Trebor Mine property from his experience as resident

engineer during the major diamond drill program done in 1949 and 1950. In his later report dated May l, 1961, he

gave the following calculations:

Gross values are estimated at 18 cents per pound for copper and 38 cents per pound for nickel - a combined value of 26 cents per pound base metal.

Net values allow 5 cents per pound for copper and 10 cents per pound for nickel, smelter charges and deductions - a combined value of 19 cents per pound of base metal. It is estimated (see pege 5) that platinoid values as shown above (from Trebor assay plans) are low, therefore the reported tonnages and values should be as follows:

8.5 R.F. Liard, P.Eng., reported that the higher

grade copper-nickel mineralization in the open-pit occurs

frequently with veins of quartz that accompany narrow

lenses of massive sulphides and enrich the orezone.

8.6 Strong magnetic intensity is shown on Figure 8

in the area of the open-pit body of pyrrhotite, chalcopy

rite, pyrite mineralization in the peridotite host rock.

For this reason numerous magnetometer surveys have been

reported on this ground. Figure 8 is the only available

plan of this work and shows in addition, a strong magnetic

response extending north-south across the common boundary

of claims TR 3187 and TRT 4310. A detailed and precise

magnetometer survey is recommended over the area of a group

of nine claims numbered EB 26, TR 3187, TRT 3448, 4310,

4311, 4369, 5953, 5954, 5955 on the property area.

8.7 Strong induced polarization response is indicated

on Line 46E in the area of the known body of mineralization

as shown on Figure 9. A trend of induced polarization re

sponses are indicated striking northeasterly into the south-

east sector of claim TRT 4369. Figure 10 is a pseudo-pro

file along Line 46E. Induced polarization response is also

noted trending across the area of magnetometer response

indicated on Figure 8 in the common boundary area of claims

TR 3187 and TRT 4310. In addition, the induced polariza

tion response associated with this trend is also noted on

claims TRT 4311 and to the southwest on claim TRT 5954 as

shown on Figure 9.

8.8 In 1968, S.V. Burr did a self-potential survey

under winter conditions and found anomalous conditions in

the southeast sector of claim TRT 4311. He drilled four

diamond drill holes numbered SB-1 thru SB-4 on this zone.

Burr reported on February 28, 1968 that D.D. Holes SB-1,

SB-2 and SB-4 encountered copper-nickel mineralization and

8.9 The 1987 program of mineral exploration included

8.75 km of line-control and the drilling of five diamond

drill holes of NQ core size totalling 680.79 metres (2,232.9

feet) shown on Figure 5 and Figures 24 thru 29. The drill

ing was done during the period November 6 and December 14.

140 split core samples were assayed for copperiisixicke^j

cobalt, chromium, gold, silver, platinum, palladium and

rhodium- The logs and assay certificates for these holes

are shown in APPENDIX 2 and APPENDIX 3. A summary of the

9.0 RECOMMENDATIONS

9.1 a) A detailed magnetometer survey (using a 50-metre grid)

is proposed to integrate and expand the area of magnetic

intensity indicated on Figure 8 over the area of claims

EB 26, TR 3187, TRT 3448, 4310, 4311, 4369, 5953, 5954, 5955 (9 claims area). This survey may assist in the

selection of bulldozer trench sites in overburden areas.

b) Geological mapping is recommended over the same grid

as the magnetometer survey. The geological mapping

will confirm the geological compilation shown on Figure

5 and may give additional interpretation to bedrock geologic types and basement rock structures. This

proposed geological survey may also assist in the pre

ference of bulldozer trench-site selection particularlyDON TULLY ENGINEERING LTD.SUITE 1205, 5SS-1JTH STREET

36.

in the southern sector of claims TRT 4310, 4311, 5953 and the eastern portion of EB26.

c) Bulldozer trenching is recommended in-conjunction

with the magnetometer and geological surveys to ex

pose the bedrock beneath the muskeg and overburdened

areas for the presence of copper-nickel mineraliza

tion particularly in the contact areas of the perido

tite and the basic lava host rocks. The contacts of

the Keweenawan diabase dykes that trend northeasterly

thru the claim area should be investigated in areas of magnetic intensity.

d) Mineralization noted in diamond drill holes in the

north portion of TR 3187 in the area north of the

open-pit and in the southeast sector of TRT 4369, is

considered for further diamond drill testing. In

addition, the presence of copper-nickel mineralization

in the deeper contact areas of the lavas and the basic

intrusive complex, as indicated on Figure 30, are

target areas for diamond drill testing.

e) Each diamond drill hole should be tested by down-the-

hole electromagnetic and magnetic borehole geophysical

methods, considering the nature of the mineralization

being pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. Should an

area of sizeable electromagnetic and coincident mag

netic intensity be encountered, a gravity survey could

be studied with a view to applying a gravity survey to

the indicated anomaly area or areas.

f) The construction of a mine model is proposed to better

understand the configuration of the mineralization and

projections for further exploration.
