The PART VI contains references extracted from major analytical and geochemical Journals that have become available to the author from January to December 1985. A few earlier ones which were not available at the h e of the previous report (PART V) or those which have inadvertently been omitted have also been included.

During the period covered by this bibliography, a total number of 181 references has been collected. The volume of GRS literature has apparently remained approximately the same as compared to the earlier reviews.

More than 30 Journals have published GRS papers during 1985. Table 1 shows the distribution of these articles in various journals. It is seen that Geostandards Newsletter is a continuing source of useful information for ,the geoanalytical community.

' Table 2 lists the degree of use of various analytical techniques. Several trends are discernable from this Table. The current'most used analytical methods are exactly the m e as in our earlier reports (PART IV and PART V). Neutron activation analysis (NAA) continues to be widely ,applied in the study of geostandards. It is still the most used tcchnique for determining the rare-earth elements (REE) md one of the best method for determining most minor md trace elements. Isotope dilution mass spectrometry OMS) is an extremely important tool for those engaged in geochronology and isotope studies. Nearly one half of

the geoanalytical contributions in PART VI deals with NAA and IDMS! Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), both flame and flameless, continues to be of value in the trace analysis of geological materials. Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) has been a subject of continued interest and is assuming an increasing role in REE analysis. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry appears to be the method of choice for bulk analysis (major and minor elements). Spectrophotometric methods remain useful in special circumstances (e.g. determination of halogens, Mo, W).

PRESENTATION OF REFERENCES

The presentation of references follows the style adopted in PART I and II. The reference papers have been classified under three principal headings:

a. New analytical data b: New compilations of "recommended" values c: General aspects of GRS.

Within each category, the references are arranged in alphabetical order with the name of the (first) author as key word. Each reference quoted consists essentially of three parts: key codes, reference itself and comments.

KEY CODES

The first line contains four different codes, separated by three slashes.

The first code (2 digits) gives the year of publication. .

The second code (3 digits) gives the serial number of the reference for the year code preceding it.

The third code (2 letters) indicates the type of sample (first letter) and of analysis (second letter). The first letter gives the type of GRS:

The second letter, T or M, stands for Trace or Major element analysis. The code GG represents general information on GRS such as evaluation of compiled data, statistical procedures ... .

The fourth code (2 letters) designates the method of analysis:

AA: CG : CK: CT: FM:

FX: IC: IR: IS: ME:

MN:

MP: SE: SG: SM:

Atomic absorption spectrometry Gravimetry Colorimetry Volumetry Fluorimetry

Nuclear Methods (mostly neutron activation an a1 y sis)

SP: Direct reading emission spectrometry (ICP)

TT: Various methods

REFERENCES

The references are presented with their titles and the name of the Journal fully developed.

COMMENTS

Comments are brief and give most often some essential information not easily extractable from the title of the paper.
