Conventions of rock magazines

The genre conventions of a rock magazine are:• Cluttered- chaotic possibly represents the music and the

atmosphere of gigs. • Lots of images• Puffs- engages the audience • Colour scheme usually black white and either gold or red.• One focus image of a medium close up of usually a band.

Also the image tends to cover part of the masthead adding to the chaotic look of the magazine.

• Informal language and slang- helps the audience relate to the magazine.

Audience

Rock magazines are aimed at a niche market with the audience being of both genders who listen to rock music and are interested in the lives of the artists. The use of informal language and slang shows that teenagers are the main audience of rock magazines. They are in the income category E. The audience would expect to see lots of images throughout the magazine both staged and of the artist performing. They would expect the articles to relate to rock music (interviews with artists or reviews of songs/albums ect). The audience will engage with the magazine as it is aimed at there age group (language, layout & colour scheme) and the articles reflect their interest in rock music, how it is produced and the lives of the artist.
