OUR TEAM WORLDWIDE

Ban Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting in ConnecticutOur names are Zehra Patwa & Mariya Taher, and as friends and survivors, we together are pleading to the Connecticut State Legislature to pass a law making it illegal for someone to carry out Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) on girls.

A Connecticut ban on FGM/C is time-critical, as 39 states, including all other states in New England, have enacted laws to ban FGM/C, And Connecticut is also the only state bordering New York in which FGM/C is legal. We do not want this state to be a destination for FGM/C. Additionally, Connecticut is the only state along the notorious sex trafficking cor-ridor between Providence, RI, and Atlantic City, NJ in which FGM/C is legal.

Zehra - Born and brought up in the UK and a proud Connecticut resident for over 25 years, I am a survivor of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting. I have been speak-ing out about my experience for the last 5 years because when I was taken abroad to be cut at the age of seven, I was told to never speak of it again. I want to make sure this never happens to anyone else and I want Connecticut, my home state, to become a safe place for all girls by passing a law to ban FGM/C.

Mariya - I was born in the United States and live in Massachusetts, and at the age of seven, I, like Zehra, was subjected to Fe-male Genital Mutilation/Cutting. Due to my experience and because I have friends and relatives who have also undergone FGM/C both here in the United States or elsewhere in the world, for over five years, I’ve worked with the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association to pass legisla-tion protecting girls in my home state from having to undergo this harm too. The bill finally became law in August 2020. Now, I want to support my friend Zehra, in ensuring that her home state, Massa-chusett’s neighboring state, also passes a law to protect ALL girls from FGM/C.

FGM/C is a practice that involves remov-ing and damaging healthy and normal female genital tissue on girls for non-med-ical reasons. It is internationally recog-nized as a human rights violation that can result in physical harm including pain, bleeding, shock, tetanus, genital sores, and cause long-lasting psychological harm including sexual disorders, fear of sexual intimacy, nightmares, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Connecticut is known for its progressive

policies in terms of reproductive rights, anti-discrimination laws, and equality is-sues, yet 39 states have already passed laws banning FGM/C, in some cases as amend-ments to child abuse laws.

As FGM/C is nearly always carried out on minors, is a violation of the rights of children, and reflects deep-rooted inequal-ity between the sexes that constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women, we must protect girls from under-going FGM/C.

Both of us believe in the importance of education and community engagement to help create social change within commu-nities and amongst groups where FGM/C might be happening. To that end, we each have organized and participated in community events to educate our friends and family members about the harms of FGM/C and why it should be abandoned. Yet, despite our efforts, FGM/C continues, often being touted as a religious or cultural practice that is needed to control women’s sexuality.

In 1996, the United States passed a federal law making FGM/C illegal in this country. For the first time ever in 2017, a doctor in Michigan was charged under this law for

performing FGM/C on minor girls, highlight-ing that FGM/C does affect women and girls living in the United States. Then on Nov 20, 2018, in a US district court decision, a judge struck down the federal law on technical grounds, finding that Congress did not have the authority to pass such a law. Rather, the federal judge opined “As despicable as this practice may be, it is essentially a criminal assault” and FGM/C was “local criminal activity” to be regu-lated by the States.

We need a bill in Connecticut that un-equivocally reiterates that female genital mutilation/cutting is a form of violence. There are laws against domestic violence and sexual assault and abuse. We need a law against FGM/C as well.

Sign our petition to support us in de-manding that legislators pass a bill to make Connecticut the 40th state to ban FGM/C. Let’s work together to take a stance against Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting!

Your last good deed:Sh. Omar Suleiman

Abdul Raheem had finished teaching Quran, then went to go pick up medicine for his mom. The car accident happened when he was pulling out of the pharmacy. While serving the woman who birthed him into this world, it was written that he would be taken out of it once again. His last good deed was so special, yet so ordinary. It wouldn’t be “selfie-worthy” or garner great praise in this world, but how precious of a way to go. He didn’t live to get married or start his own family. He was in the service of his parents and siblings, then his teachers and students. It’s the “ordinary” people doing the “ordinary” things that we have so much to learn from. To take heed of the times we delegate the service of our parents to others. To take heed of the neglect of the book of Allah in favor of countless hours reading what is of no benefit to us.A wayfarer in this world who never owned his own home or car, yet knew his priorities and longed for Paradise. May Allah grant it to him, and join his family (and all of us) with him. Ameen

Bliss or a Curse? Internet During Lockdown Social networking is a topic which divides opinions-some think it’s an amazing tool but others are worried about the impact it has on people’s lives. Since the invention of internet it has been a great help as it contains almost everything and almost every information a person requires, As according to Dave Berry a British T.V and radio anchor, the internet is the most useful single development in the history of human communica-tion since th invention of call waiting.” And eventually this was proven right during the period of lockdown when education and other stuff were shifted online. Internet have been useful in some aspects as it gives students a chance to get connected with a broader base of opinions and learn new useful facts and things. Furthermore due to internet people got a chance to explore something new. Even most of the business men got an amazing oppor-tunity to expand their businesses and improve their business reputation & Revenue . Beside this during lockdown internet have been an amazing help as through internet people easily communicated with their loved ones.

Despite having positive aspects internet even has some negative aspects on people and their lives, as now we all are connected by internet like neurons in a giant brain. Access use of internet have resulted in rapid rise of cyber crimes like virus and other online attacks through which a persons data, money and even identity could be stolen and used. As well as the surfeit use of internet have resulted in various mental health problems especially among teenagers who tend to use these social media sites for a longer period of time and undoubtedly the internet have been a distraction for everyone especially students who prefer stay-ing on the websites rather than focusing on their education and physical activities. Internet which is also known as cyber world has brought huge benefits in every aspects of life but it should also be understood by every single user of it that we must manage our times productively on internet. Otherwise an internet which is very useful for us can even cause many problems for the rough users and surfers, which may leave the individual futile and barren. A teacher showing the prophet’s cartoon was beheaded by an 18yr old, making

headlines all over the wordM. Basheer Ahmed M.DA young Chechen immigrant Abdullah Anzorov be-headed Samuel Paty, a schoolteacher in France. Mr Paty was showing cartoons of prophet Muhammed published in the French magazine Charlie Hebdo which were offensive to Muslims, while he was teaching a class on the subject of “Free speech” Abdullah was shot dead by the police and French president conferred the highest civilian award posthumously on Samuel Paty as a sign that the country stands by his courage and conviction. Abdullah Anzorov had no previously known affilia-tions with terrorist organizations and was not identified as a potential terrorist. He was probably radicalized in France. French authorities arrested an imam known for his inciting and violent speeches in connection with the crime and closed a mosque to curb hate speeches. The act was inspired by certain teachings of Islam which command its followers to kill anyone disrespecting the Prophet. Many Muslim countries and organizations condemn this heinous act. Saudi Arabia led other Muslim nations in condemning the attack. In Egypt, the highest religious authority in the country condemned the senseless vio-lence that undermines Islam’s priority of maintaining the sanctity of human life. Members of the Muslim commu-nity in France and elsewhere in the world have consis-tently denounced such brutal acts, describing them as going against the precepts of their religion. The cartoons published by the magazine are offensive to Muslims and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said that it always condemns practices of blasphemy and of insult-ing Prophets of Islam, Christianity and Judaism as it condemns any crime committed in the name of religion.

Most often, it is our hypersensitivities that motivate the cartoonists to mock us. If we do not respond, these cartoonists will go away. After the previ-ous incident of Jan 7, 2015, the French magazine printed 7.95 million copies in six languages, com-pared to its typical print run of 60,000 in French only. Killing over what is allegedly blasphemous is not just confined to European countries which are supposedly mired in Islamophobia and racism. But such killings are common in Muslim countries like Pakistan, Nigeria, Su-dan and other countries. Such killings have widespread support amongst Muslims and Pakistanis have reacted in a similar way over the killing of Salman Taseer where the murderer became a hero to the local Muslims. There is nothing more heinous than taking the life of someone who is teaching freedom of speech to his students. However, it is also a teacher’s responsibly to be aware of hurting the emotions of the pupils they are teaching, while explaining about the tolerance for the freedom of speech. Teachers should maintain a delicate balance when teaching students controversial material to foster critical thinking, without causing any offense. They should respect the trust parents have in teach-ers and not challenge the core beliefs of the students in multi-cultural and multi-ethnic communities. Muslims must be aware that at schools, teachers try to instil the basic concepts of critical thinking and free speech, even if they use materials that we might not condone as Muslims. In the mosque, some imams try to instil hatred and violence as the only way that Muslims can protect themselves against perceived attacks on Islam. The rise of far-right ideology and the propagation of

anti-immigration policies have exacerbated the status of religious minorities in Europe. Anti-Muslim right-wing politics in Europe is rising and it is unwise on the part of Muslims to give them such excuses to legitimize their politics. Muslims are playing into the orientalist caricature “as bloodthirsty people out to kill the infidels. “Muslims were also critical about double standards as a comedian making jokes about Holocaust. has been convicted eight times in French court.

Punishing alleged blasphemers violates Quranic and Prophetic teachings. In fact, people who seek to “pro-tect” God or His Messenger via lynching or issuing death threats are themselves an insult to Islam and the Prophet. Quranic verses do not prescribe punishment for Blasphemy “If you hear God’s revelations being mocked and ridiculed, don’t be with them unless they delve into another subject. Otherwise you will be as guilty as they are. God will gather the hypo-crites and the disbelievers together in Hell” (4:140) “But indeed, they uttered blasphemy. If they repent, it will be best for them. But if they turn back (to their evil ways), Allah will punish them” ... (9:74)The Prophet’s advice for blasphemers. Suhail bin Amr, the poet, blasphemed the prophet but the prophet asked his Companions to treat him kindly after he was cap-tured during the Battle of Badr. Prophet also rejected his companions’ advice to execute AbdAllah bin. Ubayy, the chief hypocrite, because “People will say that Muham-mad kills his Companions.”

Prophet Muhammad, sent as a mercy to humanity and a blessing to the universe, was entrusted only with getting all people to live in peace and harmony.

Many Muslims oppose the young French man murdered the teacher but insist that the teacher is responsible for the provocation. Some argue a double standard exists giving the example of punishment for Holocaust deniers. Unfortunately, A young 18yr old lost his life for nothing and Muslims all over the world are feeling its repercussions. I would have sug-gested to him that instead of killing his teacher, he should have written a letter to the teacher on “how one’s feelings get hurt if somebody used bad language towards ones mother” and he loves the Prophet more than his own mother, and how the cartoon hurts his feelings and how he has to control his anger as per teachings of his Prophet who was sent to the world as a mercy to the mankind. The letter would have been published in newspapers with the help of several influential Muslims and others in France and may be the whole world. It is possible that teacher might have sent an apology to the young man. This is my suggestion of using logic and rationale. This is what I understand from what the Quran and the Prophet teach us. I am sure we all know the example when a Non-Muslim came to visit the prophet in Masjid e Nabavi and urinated in the sacred Mosque, Sahabas were ready to kill him but Prophet stopped them say-ing “let him be relieved from pressure”. The man was not able to provoke anger and finally accept Islam as he was impressed with the toleration showed towards him.Dr. Basheer Ahmed is the former professor of psy-chiatry, South Western Medical School, Dallas, Texas, and chairman emeritus MCC for Human services North Texas He can be reached at [email protected]

Protest in Dallas against the killings in IndiaSeveral enraged Indian American citizens based in Dallas,Texas and representatives of various advocacy groups spread across the US, dedicated to safeguarding India’s pluralist and democratic, secular values, organized a massive protest outside the Dallas municipal court on October 18, 2020. The protest was held to express outrage against the gang rape and killing of a Dalit girl in Hathras, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, and the subsequent shocking coverup that followed by the authorities them-selves. The hasty and forceful cremation of the victim’s body by the Uttar Pradesh police, against the parent’s wishes in the middle of the night, to destroy all evidence, has sent shock waves across India and indeed around the world. The in-humanity of the crime was amplified by the brazenness of the state government’s attempt to shield the perpetrators by calling it an “honor” killing by the grieving parents instead. The indifference shown to the victim, who was raped twice, the second time when her family was denied the last rites of their daughter, after denying her justice, was the focus of the ire and outrage by protesters at the rally Among those who expressed their angst were repre-sentatives from the Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR), Ambedkarite Buddhist Association of Texas (ABAT), DFW Guru Ravidas Organization, Global Indian Progres-sive Alliance, Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) The protestors; key demand was against the increased crimes against women and children in India, and jus-tice for not only the 19-year-old Dalit girl who was gang raped on September 14, 2020, by four men belonging to the influential upper caste Thakurs in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh, but also for the innumerable rapes that followed after this incident. The victim died two weeks later in a hospital in Delhi, after suffering paralysis due to severe injuries to her spinal cord, leading to national and international outrage and protests. But the widespread outrage did not in any way dim the rapes, which contin-ued incessantly, reflecting the complete breakdown of the policing and justice system in Uttar Pradesh. On the same night that the Hathras victim was burnt, three more incidents were reported from Uttar Pradesh. And barely six days later, there was yet another rape reported from Hathras itself, despite the heavy presence of media and police there. Speaking at the protest rally, Dilip Gupta, a concerned citizen here, stated that “prime minister Narendra Modi must step in to ensure justice to the aggrieved family, be-cause it is naive and preposterous to assume that the chief minister Adityanth, who denied that the victim was raped despite the medical and legal experts confirming the crime, would ensure justice to the victim and her family”. “As a father of a young girl myself, I could not sleep since I heard about the Dalit girl of Hathras,, being subjected to gang rape and subsequently brutalized too. When the mother was ready with ‘Haldi’ to prepare the dead body of her unmarried daughter for her last journey, but was denied what was customary amongst Hindus, by Hindu policemen, to me that’s an example of extreme cruelty to parents, the kind I have not seen in my entire life”, said Abdul Quadir, yet another concerned citizen, who drove four hours from another city to be part of the protests. “The Hathras incident is as much a social failure as it is a state failure. Its roots can unequivocally be traced to In-dia’s casteist and patriarchal social system which provides the upper castes a divine right to dominate and desecrate the very soul and dignity of those beneath them. Dalit women are at the bottom of the caste order and hence, despite the barbaric nature of this incident, it has failed to elicit a commensurate response from India’s majority population and political class. We are outraged, saddened and deeply concerned by the casteist and patriarchal

mentality responsible for this incident and also by its institutional propagation. To stop the crimes against Dalits and rapes against women, we need to disarm the perpe-trators. What encourages one to commit the gruesome act without remorse? It is the assurance of impunity,” said Jagish Banker, a representative of ABAT. “Torture, oppression, and terror have no religion, so you have to choose sides, either on the right side of history or the wrong side. If we do not stand for others then none will come for us. There goes a famous quote, When they came for the gypsies, I stayed quiet, because I was not a gypsy. When they came for the businessman, I stayed quiet, because I was not a business-man. When they came for the mentally disabled, I stayed quiet because I was not men-tally disabled. But then they came for me, and now there is no one left to speak for me”, said Gurvinder Singh, repre-senting ‘Voices for Freedom”, a Sikh advocacy group. The president of the lo-cal chapter of IAMC, Azam Shaikh, reminded the protes-tors and the bystanders that Albert Einstein had said that, “The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.” He expressed shock at how the Indian government was handling atrocities towards minorities, making a strong plea to stop rapes in India. “I wanted to be part of the protests, because I want the political leadership of US and India to know that we stand for a plural, inclusive and just India and not a nation that

discriminates against its citizens, based on religion, caste, economic or educational status”, said Sharib Haroon, also of the IAMC. Contact : Jagdish Banker, ABAT at [email protected] for more details

Sher Mohammed Rajput of Chicago honored in Bikaner

If there is a community leader who is active not only in his adopted land America but also hugely involved in community affairs back home in India - the country of origin - he is Sher Mohammed Rajput.

Recognizing his stupendous contributions in Bikaner, Rajasthan, scores of community activists led by Mayor Maksood Ahmed recently orga-nized a grand reception at his residence. Who is who from the city were invited for honoring Sher Mohammed Rajput. Ahmed presented him with traditional turban and a plaque for his contributions to the city and the country.

Among the prominent organizations that joined hands with the mayor were Rajasthan Medial Association, Bikaner Press Club, officials from Maharaja College, representatives of Bikaner Orphanage and others.

Sher Mohammed Rajput was also an honored guest at a dinner banquet that is traditionally organized by his friends and well wishers for pro-moting Hindu-Muslim unity. All those present at the banquet eulogized his efforts at promoting inter-faith harmony and dialogue. In a talk to this paper, Sher bhai said that he always strove for peace and communal harmony not only in India but also in Chicago. He is one of most active persons at Indo American Center where scores of Muslims from India and Pakistan mingle with Hindus and others.

Sher Mohammed Rajput was the founding father of Bikaner Orphan-age two decades ago. He is still rendering help in nursing his “baby” by organizing fundraisers whenever he comes to the city. Usually, he has made a practice to come every year and help this orphanage and help this orphanage for boys the best he could. He told this paper that close to 400 boys are taking advantage of the facility provided by the orphan-age. At the mayor banquet over 100 city elites and invited guests had come. All paid handsome tributes to Sher Mohammed Rajput and as-sured him that they will carryout his mission of communal harmony.

Sher Rajput is associated with a number of social and educational insti-tutions in Chicago, the principal being Indo American Center. He at-tends its various meetings and looks after the kitchen facility with Nand Kapur, former president of AIA. Close to 80 people have their lunch at the IAC every day, according to Rajput.

Sher Mohammed has also been active in the affairs of the Federation of Indian Associations for the past many years and had served on its Executive Board in different capacities. He is also a doyen of East West University and has been a great help to immigrant students from India. He has been all the time a great champion of inter-faith amity and is a popular figure with the Indian American community at large.

Bhoomi Pooja opening ceremony of new temple in Rolling Meadows, IL

The Guiding Principle behind opening Dwarkamai’s Centers of Spiritual Excel-lence” was to take the worship center closer to devotee’s homes based on request from devotees in an area rather than make devotees drive for hours to visit a worship center. The same principle has brought us to the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, IL where a group of 60 devotee families felt the need for a worship center nearby and requested Dwarkamai to open a Spiritual Center on the lines of those started in Massachusetts.Under the guidance of our mentor, Shri Anil Naik, Support from the members of the community who wished to have a loca-tion in the Northwest suburbs and a land-lord willing to go the extra mile, to make this wish become a reality it has been an eventful journey. In the words of our mentor, Shri Anil Naik:“We have been doing Shri Sai Palkhi since 2006 and then worship centers in various locations in Boston area and now we will have worship center in Chicago area as well to cater to Shri Sai Devotee’s worship needs.

In all we have 4 locations in the Boston ar-eas (Billerica MA, Canton MA, Northboro MA, Hudson NH) and now 5th one in the Chicago area (Rolling Meadows IL). It was a long pending promises (over 3 years) given to the devotees in Chicago and for-tunately even after so much of wind in the so called windy-city I and everyone who all worked are happy to fulfill and deliver the Sai Temple they would like to have to the devotees of the Chicago location.”Today, Oct 25, 2020 on the auspicious day of Dasera, Shri Dwarkamai conducted the Bhoomi pooja of its newest location: Shri Shirdi Sai Mandir, Located at: 5999 S New Wilke Rd; Building 3, Suite 309, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008 Phone: 630-216-9724Devotees marked the occasion with joy de-spite having to maintain state and federal CDC guidelines on social distancing and face mask protocol during this Pooja. The Pooja and Homam were performed by Priest followed by Madhyaan arati and Prasad to devotees who were there for the Bhoomi Pooja.

APF Appoints New Board ChairMessage from APF President Shamila N. Chaudhary:

Dear APF community,

I am writing to share an important devel-opment at the American Pakistan Founda-tion (APF). After serving as Chair of APF since 2013, Riaz Siddiqi will step down and assume the title of Chairman Emeri-tus. He will remain a member of the APF Board of Directors.

It is a bittersweet moment for our com-munity, as Mr. Siddiqi gave much of his time and heart to the APF mission since he joined the organization at its founding in 2009. His commitment and vision have enabled APF to flourish and grow into the organization it is today. His imprimatur will forever be visible in everything APF does, from our Pakistan Fellows Program to our focus on community empower-ment.

We are honored to announce the election

of Dr. Nasar Qureshi as the next Chair of the APF Board of Directors. Dr. Qureshi will assume the role of APF Chair effective November 15. His energy and vision have been invaluable to APF since he joined the APF Board of Directors in 2018. With his leadership and support, APF established the APF Connect Mentorship Program.

For decades, Dr. Qureshi has served his communities in America and Pakistan as a physician, a nonprofit leader, and a mentor. He immigrated to America from Pakistan in 1984 to begin his medical education at Tulane University. He went on to specialize in immunology, becoming the first director of the HIV testing labora-tory at Mount Sinai hospital. Dr. Qureshi served as President of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America in 2006.

After a decorated career as a pathologist, laboratory director, and faculty member at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, he founded QDx

Pathology Services in New Jersey in 2006, where he continues to serve as CEO.

It is with great pride that APF serves its mission with leaders such as Mr. Siddiqi and Dr. Qureshi who recognize the poten-tial of young Pakistani American women and men to thrive in all aspects of Ameri-

can life. Together, we will build bridges, open minds, and empower communities.

Sincerely,

Shamila N. ChaudharyPresident, American Pakistan Foundation

Assmaa A. Andulsi: The Girl Who is Like No Other (Book Released)by Ali H Chemkhi (Author), Lamya Sharaby (Cover Design)Assmaa A. Andulsi: The Girl Who is Like No Other is about a modern Muslim American girl. Assmaa thinks she should be more famous than Snow White, Princess Aurora or Cinderella.

Everywhere she goes, she carries two sets of herself. One writes in English from left to right while the other writes in Arabic from right to left. One goes to public school during the week, and the other attends Sunday school at the mosque.

One admires George Washington and Martin Luther King while the other loves the Prophet Mohamed. These two identities make her different, special, and a girl who is like no other.

Sometimes she struggles to understand others.

When she yells at her third-grade teacher for not fasting during Ramadan, super-duper trouble fol-lows. Her mother explains that since her teacher is Christian, she doesn’t fast. Since Assmaa didn’t know how other people live and believe, others probably don’t know much about how her family lives and believes.

She sets up a food drive to teach her fellow students about an important principle called zakat, the act of giving. The story briefly introduces readers to all five pillars of Islam: salat, or prayer; sawm, or fasting; za-kat, charitable giving; hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca; and shahada, the declaration of faith.

Marriage ceremony of Dr. Amanpreet, daughter of famous poet Sardar Manjit Singh, was held today at a farm house in the city, including comedian poet Surendra Sharma, world famous poet of OJ, Dr. Hari-om Panwar and Dr. Sunil Jogi and blessed the daughter and the bride and groom.

NOVEMBER 2020 PAGE 19A French Teacher Showing A Cartoon Of The Prophet

Was Beheaded, Making Headlines Worldwideby M. Basheer Ahmed M.DA young Chechen immigrant Abdullah Anzorov beheaded Samuel Paty, a school-teacher in France.

While teaching a class on the subject of “Free Speech” Mr. Paty was showed a cartoon of Prophet Muhammed published in the French magazine Charlie Hebdo which was offensive to Muslims. Abdullah, an 18-year-old student of the class. Abdul-lah was shot dead by the police.

The French president conferred the highest civilian award posthumously on Samuel Paty to show that the country stands by his courage and conviction. Abdullah Anzorov had no previously known affiliations with terrorist organiza-tions nor had been identified as a potential terrorist. He was probably radicalized in France. French authorities arrested an imam known for his inciting and violent speeches connected with the crime and closed a mosque to curb hate speeches. The act was inspired by certain teachings of Islam that command its followers to kill anyone disrespecting the Prophet.

Many Muslim countries and organizations condemn this heinous act. Saudi Arabia led other Muslim nations to condemn the attack. In Egypt, the country’s highest re-ligious authority condemned the senseless violence that undermines Islam’s priority of maintaining the sanctity of human life. Members of the Muslim community in France and elsewhere in the world have consistently denounced such brutal acts, describing them as going against the precepts of their religion. The cartoons published by the magazine are offensive to Muslims, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) said that it always

condemns practices of blasphemy and of insulting Prophets of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism as it condemns any crime committed in the name of religion.

Most often, it is our hypersensitivities that motivate the cartoonists to mock us. If we do not respond, these cartoonists will go away. After the previous incident of Jan 7, 2015, the French magazine printed 7.95 million copies in six languages, compared to its typical print run of 60,000 in French only. Killing over what is allegedly blas-phemous is not just confined, to European countries which are supposedly mired in Islamophobia and racism. But such killings are common in Muslim countries like Pakistan, Nigeria, Sudan, and other

countries. Such killings have widespread support amongst Muslims, and Pakistanis have reacted in a similar way over the killing of Salman Taseer, where the murderer became a hero to the local Muslims.

There is nothing more heinous than taking the life of someone who teaches freedom of speech to his students. However, it is also a teacher’s responsibility to be aware of hurting the pupils’ emotions while explaining the tolerance for the freedom of speech. Teachers should maintain a delicate balance when teaching students con-troversial material to foster critical thinking without any offense. They should respect the trust parents have in teachers and not challenge the students’ core beliefs in multi-cultural and multi-ethnic communities. Muslims must be aware that at schools, teachers try to instill the basic concepts of critical thinking and free speech, even if they use materials that we might not condone as Muslims. In the

mosque, some imams try to instill hatred and violence as the only way that Muslims can protect themselves against perceived attacks on Islam.

The rise of far-right ideology and the propagation of anti-immigration policies have ex-acerbated religious minorities’ status in Europe. Anti-Muslim right-wing politics in Europe is rising, and it is unwise on the part of Muslims to give them such excuses to legiti-mize their politics. Muslims are playing into the orientalist caricature “as bloodthirsty people out to kill the infidels. “Muslims were also critical about double standards as a comedian making jokes about the Holocaust, has been con-victed eight times in French court.

Punishing alleged blasphemers violates Quranic and Prophetic teachings. People who seek to “protect” God or His Messen-ger via lynching or issuing death threats are themselves an insult to Islam and the Prophet.

Quranic verses do not prescribe punish-ment for Blasphemy “If you hear God’s revelations being mocked and ridiculed, don’t be with them unless they delve into another subject. Otherwise, you will be as guilty as they are. God will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers together in Hell” (4:140). “But indeed, they uttered blasphemy. If they repent, it will be best for them. But if they turn back (to their evil ways), Allah will punish them”… (9:74)

The Prophet’s advice for blasphemers,

Suhail bin Amr, the poet, blasphemed the Prophet but the Prophet asked his Companions to treat him kindly after being captured during the Battle of Badr. Prophet also rejected his com-panions’ advice to execute Ab-dAllah bin. Ubayy, the chief hypocrite because “People will say that Muhammad kills his Companions.”

Prophet Muhammad sent as a mercy to humanity and a blessing to the universe was entrusted only with getting all people to live in peace and harmony.

Many Muslims oppose the young French man who mur-dered the teacher but insist that the teacher is responsible for the provocation. Some argue a double standard exists, giving the example of punish-ment for Holocaust deniers.

Unfortunately, A young 18 year-old lost his life for nothing, and Muslims world-wide are feeling its repercussions.

I would have suggested to him that instead of killing his teacher, he should have writ-ten a letter to the teacher on “how one’s feelings get hurt if somebody used bad language towards one’s mother,” and he loves the Prophet more than his mother, and how the cartoon hurts his feelings and how he has to control his anger as per teachings of his Prophet who was sent to the world as a mercy to the humankind. The letter would have been published in newspapers with several influential Muslims and others in France and maybe the whole world. It is possible that teacher might have sent an apology to the young man.

This is my suggestion of using logic and rationale. This is what I understand from what the Quran and the Prophet teach us. I am sure we all know the example when a Non-Muslim came to visit the Prophet in Masjid e Nabavi and urinated in the sacred Mosque, Sahabas were ready to kill him but Prophet stopped them saying “let him be relieved from pressure”. The man could not provoke anger and finally accept Islam as he was impressed with the toleration showed towards him.

Get Pervis Payne Taken off Death Row

Pervis Payne is a man who has been on death row for 32 years-over half of his life. He has main-tained his innocence and the same story this entire time. He is set to be executed in the state of Ten-nessee on December the fourth 2020.

When he was given the death sen-tence in 1988 the DNA evidence was not tested in this case. Multiple times Payne has asked for the finger prints to be tested too and he was denied.

He also has an intellectual disabil-ity and in the state of tennessee the supreme court has ruled twice that they have, “No business executing people with intellectual disabilities.” It is also unconstitutional due to the 8th amendment.

The details of the crime are as follows. Payne heard his neighbor cry out in

her apartment and went to go help. He found her and her daughter stabbed al-most to death. He removed the butcher knife from her neck and attempted to revive her. When the police came he fled for fear that they would kill him on cite because they would assume he was guilty because of his race. He saw another man flee the scene as well.

None of the DNA on the crime scene was tested and there is virtually no evidence proving his guilt. His execu-tion is not only unconstitutional, but it will also be an execution of an inno-cent man.

What is ‘Samosa Caucus’, the Indian-American voice in US Congress?

With Democrat US Senator Kamala Harris becoming the first woman of African and Indian descent to become a contender for the chair of Vice President of the United States, the so-called ‘Samosa Caucus’ in the US seems to be getting stronger than ever before.

With over 1.4 million Indian-American voters and a growing number of Indian-Americans either vying for Senate posi-tions or applying for re-election, observers note that the growing influence of high-powered Desi brigade in Washington may impact the Presidential elections as well.WHAT IS THE SAMOSA CAUCUS?The ‘Samosa Caucus’ is the informal grouping of Indian-American lawmakers who are part of the House of Representa-tives or the Senate. At present, Represen-tatives Ami Bera, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna and Pramila Jayapal are part of the House while Harris is part of the Senate. The four prominent reps are for re-election and believe if more like Kulkarni win the Samosa Caucus will grow.IS THE SAMOSA CAUCUS LIKELY TO GROW?Despite its considerable size and impor-tance in terms of fundraisers, the Indian community has been largely underrepre-sented in US politics. But that may change with Kamala Harris. According to Indian American author Suketu Mehta, Harris is inspiring a lot of young Americans of South Asian descent to take the politi-cal plunge and quotes the example of his own young niece who was inspired by the

Senator to take up politics in the future. Many also believe that political participation will help give a much needed voice to the community and dispel myths about immigrants at a time when anti-immigrant narratives are in vogue.

CAN INDIAN-AMERICANS INFLUENCE US ELECTIONS?The 2020 elections are being keenly followed by India as it is also the elections that will see the largest ever number of Indian-Americans on ballot. About 70 Indian-Americans are running up and down the ballots across several states, hoping for a blue-flip for the Democrats. These include Democrat Sara Gideon. The Republicans have also fronted Indian candidates such as Repub-lican Rik Mehta who will be going up against Sen. Cory Booker in New Jersey. With a larger number of Indians in the race for various con-gressional, state and local legislative and executive offices, as well as top offices like the VP, Indian-American voters - known for their tendency to not vote, may get in-spired to vote for more Indian candidates. Though the Indian-American voter base makes up less than 1 percent of American votes, they form the second-largest im-migrant voter group in the US.WHO WILL INDIAN-AMERICANS VOTE FOR?While the Indian-American voter base has

traditionally been a Democratic bastion, support for Republicans and the Donald Trump administration has grown since the latter was elected to office in 2016. Analysts claim that his improving ties with India under PM Narendra Modi and events such as ‘Howdy Modi’ in Texas or Trump’s visit to India have strengthened the Indian diaspora’s belief in the party. Be that as it may, a survey by 2020 Indian American Attitude Survey (IAAS) found that over 70 per cent of registered Indian American voters plan to vote for Joe Biden

in next month’s US presidential election. It also said that only 22 per cent of the rest will vote for Donald Trump. The report also stressed the improving relations with India may not be enough to influencing Indian-Americans’ voters to vote for him.News 18

NOVEMBER 2020 PAGE 21Dr. Fauci was ‘absolutely not’ surprised

that Trump got COVID-19During an interview with “60 Minutes,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said he knew the White House Rose Garden event to announce Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination was bad news when he saw it on TV. The event on Sept. 26 was crowded with no social distancing and very few masks, so Fauci said he was not at all surprised when President Trump tested positive for COVID-19 soon after, as have dozens of administra-tion officials, many of whom attended the Rose Garden event, which Fauci called a “superspreader event.” Fauci has

recently criticized Trump’s rallies for the same reasons he thought the Rose Garden event was a bad idea, and on Sunday, he contradicted a claim Trump repeatedly makes at those rallies, that we’re “rounding the corner” in the fight against COVID-19. “When you have a million deaths and over 30 million infec-tions globally,” Fauci said, “you cannot say that we’re on the road to essentially getting out of this.”Yahoo News

What Could President Trump Do After Leaving Office If He Loses the Election?

President Trump is finally starting to face the reality that he may lose the election amid sliding poll num-bers, and even cracked a joke about it at a rally, saying he might have to leave the country if he’s beaten by Joe Biden. Many are speculating that Trump will look to cash in on

his time as president in as many ways as he can, including possibly starting a cable news network and even running for president again in 2024. He’s unlikely to return to Manhattan, where he lived for years.Yahoo Entertainment

President Trump is a horrible person with a horrible record | Opinion

When people ask me why I’m so critical of President Trump, I tell them that it’s not just because — as I discovered first-hand when I interviewed him in 2013 — he’s a horrible human being and a terrible role model for our children. It’s for reasons that go far beyond his awful personality.

I can’t support Trump because his mis-handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a world record of more than 218,000 deaths. With only 4 percent of the world’s population, America has more than 20 percent of the world’s COVID-19 deaths. The United States suffered many more COVID-19 deaths as a percentage of its population than Canada, Germany, South Korea and other wealthy countries. That’s a fact.

And many of the U.S. deaths could have been prevented. Trump knew about the le-thality of the pandemic early on —he is on tape telling author Bob Woodward this in February — but chose to lie to the Ameri-can people for fears that it would ruin his re-election chances.

Instead of leading by example, wearing a mask and preaching social distance, Trump has mocked people who do that. For selfish reasons, Trump neglected his main duty — to protect the American people.

I can’t support Trump because I can’t back a candidate who has built his political ca-reer on racism and xenophobia. He started his 2016 campaign by falsely claiming that most Mexican undocumented immigrants are criminals and rapists; he separated im-

migrant children from their parents’ and claimed that there are “very fine people” on both sides when neo-Nazi thugs clashed with protesters in Charlottesville.

Emboldened by Trump’s racist rhetoric, neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups are flourishing. There is a huge rise in anti-Hispanic, anti-Black, anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim hate crimes in the United States, according to the FBI. Trump’s own former Defense Secretary (R) Gen. James Mattis said recently that his former boss is “the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people.”

I can’t support Trump because his veiled threats not to recognize the results of the 2020 election if he loses, his constant verbal attacks against America’s public servants and his daily claims that an inde-pendent press is “the enemy of the people” undermine America’s democracy like nothing else we’ve seen in our lifetimes.

I can’t support Trump because his efforts to dismantle Obamacare without replacing it with any other plan threatens to leave millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions without health services.

I can’t support Trump because he is on the wrong side of the struggle to stop global warming, protect women’s rights and pass gun-safety measures.

I can’t support Trump because his claims to have created the greatest economy on Earth are ludicrous. Before the pandemic, he had largely benefited from, and contin-ued, the Obama years’ recovery.

While former President Obama reduced unem-ployment from 10 percent in 2008 to 4.7 percent in 2016, Trump only further reduced it to 3.7 percent in early 2020. Since the start of the pandemic, it’s back to nearly 8 percent.

I can’t support Trump because his foreign policy — except for helping forge a peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates — has been a string of failures. His Israeli-Palestinian peace plan never materialized, his love affair with North Ko-rea resulted in nothing and his verbal at-tacks on European allies have left America more isolated than ever.

What’s worse, Trump’s embrace of the dic-tators of North Korea, Russia, China, and Turkey has left the United States with no moral authority to lead any international efforts to restore democracy and defend human rights anywhere, including in Ven-ezuela and Cuba.

As Trump’s own former National Security Adviser John Bolton told me, Trump’s hard-line rhetoric against Cuba and Venezuela is political theater for domes-tic consumption. If Trump were serious about restoring democracy in Venezuela, he would have long put pressure on Russia

— Venezuela’s biggest backer — to stop helping that country’s dictatorship.

I can’t support Trump because hardly a day goes by without him insulting our intelligence, claiming that the COVID-19 pandemic is almost over when U.S. coro-navirus cases are once again on the rise or that Mexico will pay for his border wall, or re-tweeting crazy conspiracy theories such as the one alleging that Osama bin Laden’s death was an Obama hoax.

Trump is not just a horrible person, a danger to public health and a serial liar. He’s a threat to America’s democracy. An-other four years of Trump would turn this country into a banana republic. America needs a return to normalcy. Andres Oppenheimer,Miami HeraldYahoo News

Remembering Late Prime Minister of India Mrs Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary. She was assassinated on 31 October 1984. Indira Gan-dhi was born Indira Nehru into a Kashmiri Pandit family on 19 November 1917 in Allahabad. Her father, Jawaharlal Nehru, was a leading figure in India’s political struggle for independence from British rule, and became the first Prime Minister of the Dominion (and later Republic) of India. In January 1966, after Shastri’s death, the Congress legislative party elected her over Morarji Desai as their leader. Congress party veteran K. Kamaraj was instrumental in Gandhi achieving victory. Because she was a woman, other political leaders in India saw Gandhi as weak and hoped to use her as a puppet once elected: But that never happened.

Trump says he might leave country if he loses to Joe Biden in Nov. 3 election

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump suggested Friday he might take drastic action if he loses to Democrat Joe Biden.

He might even leave the country, he said.

“Running against the worst candidate in the history of presidential politics puts pressure on me,” Trump told supporters at an airport campaign rally in Macon, Georgia. “Could you imagine if I lose? My whole life – what am I going to do? I’m going to say I lost to the worst candidate in the history of politics.”

Trump said he might not feel so good after an election loss to Biden. “Maybe I have to leave the country, I don’t know,” he joked.

The comment drew a quick retort from The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump group

of current and former Republicans work-ing to elect Biden.

The group posted a video of Trump’s remarks on Twitter and added a one-word commentary: “Promise?”Biden has maintained a consistent edge over Trump in national polls and in many battleground states. The website Real-ClearPolitics gives the Democrat an 8.9 percentage point lead in its average of national polls.

Trump’s remarks on Friday that he might leave the country aren’t the first time he has warned about what might happen if he loses to Biden on Nov. 3.He teased a group of supporters in Fayette-ville, North Carolina, last month that they will never see him again if Biden wins.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do – I will

I have failed’ - Kim Jong Un shows tearful side in confronting North Korea’s hardships

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appeared to shed tears at the weekend as he thanked citizens for their sacrifices, in the most striking demonstra-tion yet of how he is relying on his “man of the people” persona to tackle his country’s deepening crises.

Though the young leader has consolidated his rule over the isolated nation with ruthless purges, North Korea watchers say he has also sought to portray himself as a more traditional political leader than his eccentric father, Kim Jong Il.

Speaking at a military parade on Saturday, Kim became emotional as he paid tribute to troops for their response to national disasters and preventing a coronavirus outbreak and apologised to citizens for failing to raise living standards.

“Kim’s modesty and candour, and his tears and choking, were all highly unusual, even for someone who publicly acknowledges shortcomings and has an established pat-tern of being expressive,” said Rachel Min-young Lee, an independent researcher and former open-source North Korea analyst for the U.S. government.

The speech, which was clearly carefully designed to resonate with the domestic audience, likely cemented Kim’s image as a competent, charismatic leader who also has a human side to him, she said.

‘I AM SORRY’

Kim - who broke into wide smiles when huge new ballistic missiles were displayed in the parade - blamed North Korea’s con-tinuing economic hardships on interna-tional sanctions, the coronavirus crisis and a series of damaging typhoons and floods.

Since succeeding his father in 2011, Kim

has made economic progress a cornerstone of his agenda. He also U.S. President Donald Trump, forming an unprec-edented personal relationship that included flowery letters.

But ambitious plans for inter-national trade, construction projects, and other economic measures have stalled in the face of sanctions imposed over his nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programmes.

The economy took a further hit when North Korea closed its borders to nearly all traffic due to the pandemic, and summer typhoons caused flooding that further threatened food sup-plies.

“Our people have placed trust, as high as sky and as deep as sea, on me, but I have failed to always live up to it satisfacto-rily,” Kim said, at one point appearing to choke up. “I am really sorry for that.”

Kim said the country’s success in prevent-ing a coronavirus outbreak and overcom-ing other challenges was a “great victory achieved” by the citizens.

“Our people have always been grateful to our Party, but it is none other than themselves who surely deserve a bow of gratitude,” he said.

So much focus on citizens was a major departure for such events, where speeches are usually filled with more ideological themes and lauding of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, said Lee.

“The speech was clearly intended to be for

and about the people,” she said.

PERSONAL APPROACH

In contrast to his remote father, Kim has taken his wife to political summits with foreign leaders, often stoops to hug chil-dren and mingles with workers at public appearances.

Some of this folksy approach has shaped his public response to the country’s eco-nomic challenges, said Benjamin Katzeff Silberstein, a North Korean economy expert at the U.S-based Stimson Center think-tank.

“Kim has been more personally present and visible at disaster reconstruction sites and the like, and he’s prioritised a lot of the symbolic construction projects designed

to show economic progress,” he said.

But despite some early moves towards em-bracing markets, Kim is not an out-an-out reformer and his policy prescriptions have tended to draw on the North Korea play-book honed by his father and grandfather, state founder Kim Il Sung, Silberstein said.

The United Nations says that, under Kim, North Korea has continued to quash basic freedoms, maintaining political prison camps and strict surveillance of its citizens. Kim had his uncle executed, according to state media, and the United States accused his government of using the chemical warfare agent VX assassinate his half-brother, Kim Jong Nam, in 2017, an allegation Pyongyang has denied.

Last week Kim called on his country to embark on an 80-day “speed battle” - a campaign to attain economic goals before a congress in January to decide a new five-year plan.

Such campaigns, which involve citizens performing “voluntary” extra labour, have been described by some residents as “one of the most exhausting, irritating parts of everyday life”, Silberstein said.

“Kim’s essentially left with tears, apolo-gies, speed battles and squeezing out funds wherever they can be found,” he said.

Melania Trump Is Reportedly Avoiding Donald Trump to Protect Her Reputation

Melania Trump is apparently doing what she can to stay clear of Donald Trump. This is not a new pattern for the First Lady. But, with the president’s recent return from the hospital, and Melania issuing her own personal statement about precautions taken to protect the staff working in the executive residence amid the coronavirus, it’s become apparent she is strategically distancing herself.

“It’s extraordinary in history, and it’s a direct contradic-tion to the way in which he is behaving,” Myra Gutin, author of The President’s Partner: The First Lady in the Twentieth Century told The Washington Post. Gutin couldn’t think of another time in history when a first lady has released a separate statement in such stark contrast to that of the president’s, especially with an upcoming election.

But, does she really care about the workers who serve them, or is she plotting a strategy to save her reputation? “My guess is that she’s looking out for her own reputation and trying to distance herself from her husband’s appar-ently cavalier attitude toward safety precautions,” said Katherine Jellison, a professor of history at Ohio Univer-sity, to The Washington Post.

Related video: Public figures who have tested positive for COVID-19Scroll back up to restore default view. And the First Lady’s former BFF, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, is in agreement. “She keeps herself mysterious and an enigma for a very, very important reason — to keep everyone away and to let everyone believe what they want to believe,” the former senior advisor told Michael Cohen on his podcast, Mea Culpa. Cohen went on to share his opinion saying, “There was a time that things looked a little bit iffy in their marriage, you may recall, where she wouldn’t hold his hand…it’s very possible that they then sat, they brought the lawyers in and they redid the agreement,” Cohen said. “I think she may have poten-tially — I’m only speaking from opinion, and I don’t know it to be fact, but I think knowing Melania being calculat-ing — which she is — she may have upped the ante at some point.”

So, maybe Melania is trying to play politics — trying to appear reasonable — and by distancing herself hoping she might help her husband’s reelection campaign. Or, she’s trying to protect her reputation.

Woman killed in suspected honour killing in Karnataka; father,

two others, including minor, held Benga-luru, Oct 17 (PTI) In a suspected case of honour killing in Ramanagara district, a 19-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her father and two other relatives, includ-ing a minor, who were opposed to her reported love affair with a man belong-ing to another community, police said on Saturday.

Police said the incident is said to have taken place on October 8, and the accused in the case are the girl’s father Krishnappa of Bettedahalli in Magadi taluk, her cousin brother Chetan and a minor distant rela-tive.

While the two adults were arrested on Friday, the minor is under detention, of-ficials said.

On October 9, Krishnappa had filed a missing case regarding his daughter, a B.Com student, and on the very next day her body was found in his brother’s farm.

Aimed at misleading the police, they had tried to put the blame on her boyfriend

and had even given state-ments to this effect before the local media, police said.

They had allegedly even tried to spread information through social media that she was raped and murdered.

Police said the truth came out when they subjected the fam-ily to questioning.

Man hacked to death by wife’s family in honour killing

14 persons arrested for pre-planned mur-der, victim’s wife says her kin were against marriageHyderabad: A 28-year-old man was alleg-edly murdered by the family of his wife in what the Telangana police said was an honour killing.

Yogi Hemant Kumar had married 23-year-old Avanti four months in the face of opposition by her family. They belonged to different castesAvanti and Hemant had grown up in the locality of Chandanagar in Serilingampally mandal and fallen in love eight years ago.

Fourteen people, including Avanti’s uncle Yugender have been arrested by the Cy-berabad police for their alleged involve-ment in the murder. Police said Avanti’s father D. Laxma, mother Archana, Yugen-der, and the others had been plotting ways to get rid of Hemant.

Madhapur deputy commissioner of police Venkateswarulu said Laxma agreed to

Yugender’s plan to hire contract killers for Rs 10 lakh.

“This killing was executed in a pre-planned manner. It is an honour killing,” Venkateswarulu said. A distraught Avanti told mediapersons outside Osmania General Hospital mortuary on Friday, as she and her in-laws awaited completion of the postmortem on Hemant’s body, that her father and uncle and the others were against her marriage.

“After our wedding, the Chandanagar police counselled both our families. After that, things quietened down. Little did I know that while staying quiet my family was hatching a plan to kill my husband. If there was a problem, since it was I who married against their wishes my fam-ily could have killed me. Why kill my husband,” Avanti asked. According to the police, on Thursday afternoon, a group of men led by Yugender, a few relatives of Avanti, and three hired killers, Minpur Buchi Yadav, Krishna, and Mohammed

Pasha, reached the couple’s house in TNGOs Colony in Gachibowli in three cars, forced their entry into the house, manhandled Hemant and Avanti and kidnapped them.

The gang told the couple that they were being taken to Avanti’s house to discuss their marriage. When the car turned on to the Ring Road and began going the wrong way, Avanti and Hemanth managed to open the door and jumped out. Another car in which Yugender was seated reached the scene. Hemanth was caught and forced back into the car.In the meanwhile, Avanti’s in-laws reached the spot following a phone call from her. After warning Avanti and her in-laws, Yugender and the others left the scene, leaving Avanti to rush to the police.

According to DCP Venkateswarulu, the

three hired killers murdered Hemant and dumped the body on the outskirts of Kistaigudem village in Sangareddy. Then they went to a wayside shop where they began consuming liquor.

“When they switched on their cellphones, we tracked their location and took them into custody. During questioning they re-vealed the entire plan,” DCP Venkateswa-rulu said.

Teacher beheaded in Paris suburb after showing cartoons of Prophet Mohammed to class

A history teacher who showed his pupils cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in class was beheaded near his school in a Paris suburb on Friday by a suspected Islamist terrorist who shouted “Allahu Akbar”, police said.

Alerted by local residents, police con-fronted and shot dead a man armed with a kitchen knife and an air gun who refused to drop his weapons and surrender, and threatened them.

Minutes later, officers found the body of 47-year-old Samuel Paty, a history and geography teacher.

A bomb disposal unit was called in to check whether the presumed assailant was wearing a suicide vest or belt.

Witnesses told police they heard the assail-ant shouting “Allahu Akbar” [‘God is the greatest’ in Arabic], police sources said.

The teacher had received death threats af-ter giving a class on freedom of expression, during which he showed pupils the con-troversial cartoons, a police source said. The presumed killer was reported to be an 18-year-old Chechen, the sources said.

The gruesome killing in broad daylight, in the street outside the school where the teacher worked in Conflans-Sainte-Hono-rine, north-west of Paris, was witnessed by passers-by who raised the alarm. French media named the teacher as Samuel P.

Sophie Vénétitay, deputy head of the SNES-FSU teachers’ union, said: “He was murdered because he was doing his job, namely teaching critical thought.” She said the victim was a history and geography teacher who was in charge of “moral and civic education”.

“In that capacity, he gave a lesson on the freedom of expression with the Moham-med cartoons,” she said.

Thibault Humbert, mayor of the nearby suburb of Éragny-sur-Oise, said: “This was an exceptionally violent and horrifying attack. The police must be commended for intervening with such speed.”

Police arrived at the murder scene within minutes, but came across the suspect, who was fleeing towards Eragny-sur Oise, about two miles away, before they discov-ered the body.

“The body of the decapitated man was found around 5.30 pm,” a source close to the investigation said. “The presumed attacker was waving his gun and shouting threats at officers before he was shot dead.”

Police sealed off the area and urged resi-dents to stay at home while they investi-gated whether other potential attackers or accomplices may still be at large.

The investigation is being directed by spe-cialised anti-terrorism prosecutors.

“There are still questions about whether the killer was radicalised or whether there might have been another motive, but the investigation will clarify this and the working hypothesis is terrorism,” the source said.

French President Emmanuel Macron ar-riving at the scene of the stabbing attack - ReutersFrench President Emmanuel Macron ar-riving at the scene of the stabbing attack - ReutersAn investigation has been launched into “murder in relation to a terrorist group” and “membership of a criminal terrorist group”.

The presumed killer, a Moscow-born ethnic Chechen, was not on France’s terror watch list but was known to police for petty crime.

Charlie Hebdo expressed “horror and revulsion that a teacher doing his job was murdered by a religious fanatic”.

A family filed a legal complaint against the teacher last week after he showed the cartoons in class.

President Emmanuel Macron and several government ministers visited the scene af-ter a crisis meeting at the interior ministry.

Speaking from the scene on Friday night, President Macron said: “One of our fellow citizens was murdered because he taught, he taught his pupils freedom of expression, to believe or not to believe. Our compa-triot was the victim of a blatant Islamist terrorist attack.”

He expressed his condolences to the family, friends and the secondary school where the victim taught.

Mr Macron added: “It was no coincidence that the terrorist killed a teacher because he wanted to kill the Republic and its val-ues. The Enlightenment, (is) the possibility to make our children, wherever they come from, whatever they believe in, whether they believe or not, whatever their reli-gion, to turn them into free citizens.

“This battle is ours and it is existential,” he said. “They will not pass,” said Mr Macron. “Obscurantism and the violence that goes with it will not win. They will not divide us. That’s what they seek and we must stand together.”

Jean-Michel Blanquer, France’s education

minister, said: “It is the French Republic that is under attack.”

Other politicians from across the board expressed horror at the killing.

Xavier Bertrand, centre-Right president of the Hauts-de-France region, said: “Is-lamist barbarity has taken aim at one of the symbols of the Republic: school. The terrorists want to shut us up, to bring us to our knees. They should know that we will not bend, they will never forbid us to read, write, draw, think, teach.”

Marine Le Pen of the far-Right National Rally, said: “A teacher beheaded for show-ing Charlie Hebdo caricatures. We are in France with this level of unbearable barbarity. Islamism is waging war on us: it is by force that we must drive them out of our country.”

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, head of the far-Left party, Unbowed France, said: “Horrible crime in Conflans! In fact, the assassin takes himself for the god that he claims he follows. He is sullying religion. And he is inflicting on us all the hell of having to live with murderers like him.”

French police are treating the attack as terror - AFPFrench police are treating the attack as terror - AFPParents and pupils said they were deeply shocked by the murder.

“It’s the countryside here. Nothing hap-pens,” said Nordine Chaouadi, whose 13-year-old son “took lessons with this teacher.”

“He’s scared, he’s in a bad way,” he said.

Speaking of the teacher, he said: “At no time did he seek to lack respect, that’s what my son told me.”

He said that last week, the teacher had invited Muslim pupils to leave the class-room to not be shocked by a caricature of a nude Mohammed. The incident sparked controversy among some parents,” said Mr Chaouadi, a Muslim himself.

“I feel terrible, he said. It’s crazy, incredi-ble. All the prophets, even Jesus, have been insulted for 2,000 years. It’s not new. I’m

lost and can’t believe it’s happened.”

The killing came at a highly sensitive time in France after two people were seriously injured in a knife attack last month outside the former offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.

A Pakistani man who entered France under a false identity confessed to stab-bing two journalists who work for a video production company in the same building as Charlie Hebdo’s former office.

He told investigators he had been angered by the newspaper’s decision to republish controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed to coincide with the ongo-ing trial of 14 alleged accomplices of two Islamists who massacred 12 people at Charlie Hebdo’s offices five years ago. The attacker said he had not known that the weekly moved to secret new premises after the attack in January 2015.Ten months later, France suffered its deadliest terrorist attack when 130 people were killed in coordinated attacks in Paris claimed by Islamic State.

Suicide bombers armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles attacked the Bataclan music venue, near cafés and restaurants, and the national stadium.

In July 2016, 86 people were killed and more than 400 injured when a Tunisian immigrant rammed a 19-tonne lorry into crowds of families watching a Bastille Day fireworks display on the seafront in Nice.

Later that month, two Islamist terrorists murdered an 86-year-old Roman Catholic priest during a church service in Norman-dy. There have been further attacks since.

The 2015 massacre at Charlie Hebdo, the first in the series of Islamist attacks in France, was carried out by two Paris-born brothers, Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, who were shot dead by police two days later.

Charlie Hebdo now produces its maga-zine from a secret location and its staff are guarded by police 24 hours a day.The Telegraph David ChazanYahoo News

Rain and water is blessing, but turned to terror, due to unethical

work culture of governmentAll that the Hyderabad city and its people are undergoing is due to hydrological net-work of lakes being totally destroyed. Had the chain link of each lake connected to another and then flowing into moosi nadi been kept intact city would not be flooded.

HIMAYAT Sagar water being released into moosi nadi after it may reach FTL shortly. But has the carrying capacity of moosi nadi been restored.

What is cusecs being released and what is carrying capacity of river? Moosi is severely encroached treated as land with even metro coming up inside moosi nadi. What if Osman Sagar also has to be re-leased? They didn’t restore balkapur chan-nel that connects Osman Sagar to Hussain Sagar in spite of pil in high court.

Why tolichowki inundated press is asking. The hydrological network is from Durgam cheruvu to Kota cheruvu to shahhatem talab to Naya qila talab to Langer house talab to drain into moosi nadi is totally destroyed.

People are being evacuated but encroach-ment is not evicted.Moosi waters touching bridges not because moosi is full it’s bcuz moosi is cramped with encroachments. Moosi was taken as land.

We always told government to restore water bodies area and storage capacity and restore the network. We didn’t ask for moon.

Water is blessing . But due to government dereliction of duty, due to their non ap-plication of mind, due to the government not acting in good faith, due to its com-missions and omissions, the cascading set chain link of lakes was not restored and today common person is in trouble.

Lakes across GHMC including lost their structure and main utility of store houses of water to gently recharge ground aqui-fiers so that people across can draw water thru bores and wells.

It is to be noted that silt/debris should hv been cleared to enhance storage capacity of lake as rains and heavy rains were much forecasted.

secondly, lakes area needed to be restored so as to fill lakes to their maximum water spread and to their original volume, by evictions of encroachments.

further, the hydrology that is the inflow channels and outflow channels connecting one lake to another and finally draining surplus into moosi nadi should have been smoothened without any hindrances.

Without setting this network right MAUD minister, chief minister and their official yes men team, built bridges over en-croached lakes, and, laid BT roads inside lakes, and, throttled lakes thru walking roads inside the lake, and,had open gyms inaugurated in lakes and ,temples inside lakes, new masjid right under bund of lake, and,

function halls on the chan-nels;Acres of Layouts with BT roads in FTL,further, immersion ponds cum ampi theaters inside lakes, also, gate ways inside lakes and that too with a fee for entry. STPs and offices inside lakes. MEIL constructs inside lake with NOC. Phoenix constructs inside lakes without EC;ORO sports is inside drinking water reser-voir itself, and, highrises with no permissions inside lake and lake is halved, And, ‘walking road’ inside lake that divides the lake; Further, secretariat debris dumped right inside hussain sagar and 11 storey secretariat complex right in the lake and its notified eco sensitive zone that has parking place for more than 2000 cars and 4000 two wheelers, much detrimental to the lake,

what is original storage capacity of lake. even before FTL height is reached at the officially demarcated FTL boundary and without checking storage capacity of lake is reached or not officials have started dewatering the lake which is totally illegal against science and sense.

secondly, already the roads are flooded and GHmc added to the problem of flood-ing the roads by pumping out water from lake.

thirdly, the retention of water in the lake is important for recharging of ground aquifiers.

Rain and water is blessing , but due to government’s unethical work culture rain has become terror to hyderabadis.

But alas, they wud wait for nature to heal and they do business as usual. Little do they comprehend that this wait and con-tinue game is over.

This is climate crisis. These extreme weathers are here to keep haunting us with greater frequency. Hence on a priority topmost ensure basics of every citizen and basic infrastructure to the city.

India must not neglect bank recap despite pandemic, says former RBI deputy governor

MUMBAI (Reuters) - India is neglect-ing bank recapitalisation as it focuses on debt moratoriums and interest waivers for borrowers amid the CO-VID-19 pandemic, a former central bank official told Reuters Indian banks are saddled with over $120 billion in bad debt, and in severely stressed con-ditions the bad-loan ratio could nearly double by March, according to Reserve Bank of India projections.

Restoring banks’ capital is critical for aiding a meaningful recovery, but there has been little focus on the matter, former RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya said. ”This lack of focus is tantamount to kicking the can down the road and jettisoning financial stability for short-term gains,” said Acharya, who recently wrote a book titled the “Quest for Restoring Finan-cial Stability in India”.

“This repeated mistake has prevented

India from recovering well from adverse shocks,” Acharya said. His comments came weeks after India offered to waive the compounded interest component on all loans up to 20 million rupees following a legal challenge to the terms of a six-month moratorium.

Designing moratoria and forgiveness like farm-loan waivers that favour bor-rowers excessively in the short term has been detrimental to a sound re-covery of credit growth in the medium term, Acharya said.

Though the latest one-time restructur-ing package has been fine-tuned to ensure it cannot be misused, it still has a little bit of a “band-aid and short-termism” approach to it, he said.

Funds to provide for the losses that would be incurred through restructur-ing should be set aside so that banks

do not strangle growth as the economy begins to recover after the pandemic.

“If the government doesn’t wish to recapitalise banks in a timely manner, then it must ensure that the contours of debt moratoria and forgiveness package aren’t so generous that banks won’t be in a position to lend well dur-ing the recovery phase, which is likely

around the corner,” Acharya said.“It would be good to learn from the past mistakes and start the work of repairing bank balance sheets at the same time as giving a soft landing to bank borrowers and the real economy.Swati Bhat,ReutersYahoo News

Gemini (May 21-June 20) As the adaptable, versatile and sometimes scattered and flighty air sign of the zodiac, you’ve been wondering what hit you as life has been fraught with power struggles lately, with Pluto, the planet of power, dancing opposite your Sun in Gemini. And you’ve been learning to surrender, haven’t you? With the Sun, Mars and the New Moon all in Scorpio on the 12th, it’s time for you to transform the day-to-day quality of your life. If this intense energy seems to be taking its toll on your health and a general sense of well-being, look at what you eat, how much sleep you get, if you exercise on a regular basis and decide to make changes in these areas so that you create a vibrant, healthy mind/body/spirit. Scorpio is the sign of transformation, magic, healing and regeneration. So plant the seeds of renewal

at this Scorpio New Moon because the Universe always says YES!

---------------------------------------------

Cancer (June 21-Jul. 22) It’s not easy being you, you say, dear crab? There’s no question that you’ve had to be more disciplined and responsible for your feelings and your emotional well-be-ing. With Saturn, the planet of responsibil-ity and discipline, in Cancer since August, you’ve had quite a lesson in self-parenting and self-nurturing – not to mention taking responsibility for EVERYTHING you feel without making it someone’s else’s fault. You know now, dear Moonchild, that you’re just as capable of abandoning you as anyone else. With Saturn retrograding on the 8th, you’ll have one more opportunity to create those internal structures that tru-ly support who you are now. Remember, a playpen is an appropriate, safe structure to protect a child, but that same playpen is confining and restrictive to an adult. Sat-urn’s message is that you have what it takes to be your own mommy and daddy.

-----------------------------------------------

Leo (Jul. 23- Aug.22)

While you are normally gregarious, fun-loving and outgoing by nature, you may be feeling more private, with-drawn, intro-spective and reflective, with the Sun and Mars in Scorpio cycling in the house of your physical and emotional foundations. This is the time to entertain yourself in the privacy of your home and celebrate the miracle of your inner life. It would be good to undertake a project in your home so that you have a physical outlet for the intense, powerful energy of Mars, the planet of desire and action, in Scorpio. If there is friction at home or underlying tension, try to remember when you felt similar energies as a child, because the 4th house is also your past – and if you’re will-ing to fearlessly face what may be up with the courage of the lion, you will create an amazing present out of that past.

-----------------------------------------------

Virgo (Aug 23 – Sept. 22) What a ride you’ve had for the last year as you expanded on every level possible, perhaps even your waistline? Mercury, your guardian angel planet, leaves the focused, determined, penetrating Scorpio energy and journeys into optimistic, exuberant, enthusiastic Sagittarius on the 4th and then retro-grades on the 30th until December 20. The message of Mercury in fiery Scorpio is to lighten up on yourself, dear Virgo. Quit being so anal about everything having to

be just so. You can miss the miracle of life if you’re so focused on every little detail. With all the Sagittarius planets in your 3rd house of communication and Mercury in philosophical Scorpio, you’ll find the words to see the bigger picture and com-municate with greater power, meaning and purpose at the Full Moon in Gemini on the 26th.

-----------------------------------------------

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22) You’re having a ball now, aren’t you, oh lover of relationships, teamwork and cooperation, with Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, travelling in your sign. If you’re cashing in now, it’s because you deserve it. You’re reaping what you’ve sown over the last 12 years as it appears that everyone is your raving fan. And with Venus, your guardian angel planet, in Libra until the 22nd when she flows into powerful Scorpio, people are com-ing out of the woodwork to support you in making your dreams come true. Yes, everything you touch can turn to gold because you believe it. Of all the signs in the zodiac, you recognize the value and the gift in all relationships and now’s the time for you to reaffirm that every match is made in heaven.

------------------------------------------------

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) This is your month of rebirth, heal-ing, regeneration and maximum intensity, dear Scorpio. Whether you express the scorpion, snake or phoenix/eagle energy of Scorpio is up to you to decide. And this November 2020 is particularly power-ful for you as Mars, your guardian angel planet of desire and action joins the Sun in Scorpio on the 11th Expect things to really heat up after the 11th as you become one with your passion. And when you’re focused on your heart’s desire, there’s no one more focused, determined and relent-less than you. Passion is your middle name and Mars in your sign, which only occurs every two years, just doubles the pleasure and doubles the fun. And for those of us who love you, it’s best to just get out of your way.

----------------------------------------------

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec 21) There’s always the poten-tial for lots of behind the scenes activity in November 2020, dear Archer, as the Scorpio planets flow in your 12th house of dreams, inspiration, spirituality and your unconscious. And very likely it will be easy for you to share what’s going on as Mercury, the planet of communication, cycles into your sign on the 2nd where it will be until January 10, 2021, because of its retrograde journey beginning on the

30th. Wherever you need clarity and di-rection in your life, ask for answers in your dreams, especially around the New Moon in Scorpio on the 12th, because while the body sleeps the soul never does. And with Jupiter, your guardian angel planet now in Libra, the sign of teamwork and coopera-tion, people are coming out of nowhere to support you and your process.

--------------------------------------

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19) While you usually know where you’re going, your path up the mountain may not be all that clear as Sat-urn, your ruling planet begins its 5-month retrograde cycle on the 8th. The monthly horoscope advises you to take a long hard look at the quality of your relationships, both personal and business and if they are pulling their weight. This is a great time to set boundaries and ask for what you want. And be prepared that your partners will be letting you know, in no uncertain terms, what they need from you. In your career, which is most important to you, you may be ready for a raise, a promotion, a new job or all three as Jupiter’s expan-sive energy traverses your 10th house. You’re ready to step up and assume greater responsibility and if you can’t do it in your current job, you may decide to look for a new one and a new and better job may find you because you deserve it.

-----------------------------------------------Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18) You may feel like you’re waking up after a long sleep as Uranus, your guardian angel planet of awakening, breakthrough and rebellion, moves forward again on the 11th after its 5-month tailspin. It’s time for magic in your career this month as the Scorpio planets travel in your 10th house. You feel a powerful sense of mission, especially when Mars cycles into Scorpio on the 11th and the New Moon in Scorpio occurs on the 12th. You are the humanitarian of the zodiac and it’s time to express your uniqueness, originality and inventiveness in your job and move beyond all restric-tions and eliminate what’s not working once Uranus moves forward. There are numerous opportunities for powerful alli-ances now with people where you can be of mutual benefit to each other.

-------------------------------------

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March As reported by the November 2020 horoscope, your head may be spinning as you step up to who you really are, this month. You are in a creative re-awakening and are coming into your own. The dazzling planet Uranus puts you at the center of divine change which may also feel like your own personal revolution so that you can discover the real you. Re-invent yourself and revise your personal life itinerary. More than ever before, you need to be you and do what you want to do in your own unique way. Normally gentle, compassion-ate and self-sacrificing, it will surprise you how easy it will be

to blast anyone or anything out of sight and mind that prevents you from expressing your inventiveness and individuality.

Pakistan police detain son-in-law of exiled former premier

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani police briefly detained the son-in-law of exiled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif accusing him of leading a crowd in a chant against the military at the tomb of the country’s founder.

The arrest of Mohammad Safdar came after Sharif ’s Pakistan Muslim League op-position party joined a series of nation-wide protests against the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan. His arrest drew condemnation from the opposition, which said authorities wanted to target Sharif ’s family.

Police detained Safdar at a Karachi hotel room where he was staying with his wife Maryam Nawaz, who addressed a large anti-government rallyBut he was freed lat-er after a court granted him bail, his party and family said. Safdar on Sunday had

visited the mausoleum of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who led independence movement to get a separate homeland from Britain in 1947 when united India was divided into two countries: India and Pakistan. Jinnah remains a revered figure in Muslim-major-ity Pakistan, with his tomb often drawing politicians and leaders.

While at the tomb, Safdar led a crowd in chanting: “Give respect to the vote!” That slogan is viewed in Pakistan as criticism of the country’s military, which ruled the country of 220 million people — directly or indirectly — for most of its history.

Chanting political slogans at Jinnah’s tomb is widely considered taboo. Police say they arrested Safdar, himself a member of the Pakistan Muslim League party, after re-ceiving a complaint from a citizen alleging he was harassed.

Hours after Safdar’s arrest, his politician wife Maryam Safdar told a news conference that police forcibly entered her room to take her husband away. She alleged Karachi police were being used by “unknown but known forces” to suppress their voice, imply-ing the military had a hand in her husband’s arrest.

She added opposition parties will continue their protests until Khan is removed from power.

The 70-year-old Sharif who has had a long uneasy relationship with the military, served as Pakistan’s prime minister three times. A court in 2017 ousted him from power over corruption allegations. Sharif

has been staying in London since Novem-ber after being allowed to receive medical treatment abroad.Several opposition leaders have faced criminal charges in recent weeks as organized opposition to Khan, a former cricketer, grows.MUHAMMAD FAROOQ Associated PressYahoo News

The Next China? India Must First Beat Bangladesh

(Bloomberg Opinion) -- India’s Covid-19 economic gloom turned into despair this week, on news that its per capita gross domestic product may be lower for 2020 than in neighboring Bangladesh.(1)

“Any emerging economy doing well is good news,” Kaushik Basu, a former World Bank chief economist, tweeted af-ter the International Monetary Fund up-dated its World Economic Outlook. “But it’s shocking that India, which had a lead of 25% five years ago, is now trailing.”

Ever since it began opening up the economy in the 1990s, India’s dream has been to emulate China’s rapid expan-sion. After three decades of persevering with that campaign, slipping behind Bangladesh hurts its global image. The West wants a meaningful counterweight to China, but that partnership will be predicated on India not getting stuck in a lower-middle-income trap.

The relative underperformance may also dent self-confidence. If a country with large-power ambitions is beaten in its own backyard — by a smaller nation it helped liberate in 1971 by going to war with Pakistan — its influence in South Asia and the Indian Ocean could wane.Where have things gone wrong? The coronavirus pandemic is definitely to blame. Bangladesh’s new infections peaked in mid-June, while India’s daily case numbers are starting to taper only now, after hitting a record high for any country. With 165 million people, Ban-gladesh has recorded fewer than 5,600 Covid-19 deaths. While India has eight times the population, it has 20 times the fatalities. What’s worse, the severe eco-nomic lockdown India imposed to stop the spread of the disease is set to wipe out 10.3% of real output, according to the IMF. That’s nearly 2.5 times the loss the global economy is expected to suffer.

Fiscal squeamishness, an undercapi-talized financial system and a multi-year investment funk would all delay India’s post-Covid demand recovery. Worse, even without the pandemic, India might have eventually lost the race to Bangladesh. The reason is nested in a new paper by economist Shoumitro Chatterjee of Pennsyl-vania State University and Arvind Subramanian, formerly India’s chief economic adviser, titled “India’s Export-Led Growth: Exemplar and Exception.” Consider first the exceptionalism of India’s growth. Bangladesh is doing well because it’s following the path of previous Asian tigers. Its slice of low-skilled goods exports is in line with its share of poor-country working-age population. Vietnam is punching slightly above its weight. But basically, both are taking a leaf out of China’s playbook. The People’s Republic held on to high GDP growth for decades by carving out for itself a far bigger dominance of low-skilled goods manu-facturing than warranted by the size of its labor pool.

India, however, has gone the other way, choosing not to produce the things that could have absorbed its working-age population of 1 billion into factory jobs. “India’s missing production in the key low-skill textiles and clothing sector amounts to $140 billion, which is about 5% of India’s GDP,” the authors say.

If half of India’s computer software exports in 2019 ceased to exist, there would be a furor. But that $60 billion loss would have been the same as the foregone exports annually from low-skill production. It’s real, and yet nobody wants to talk about it. Policymakers don’t want to acknowledge that the shoes and

apparel factories that were never born — or were forced to close down — could also have earned dollars and created mass employment. They would have provided a pathway for permanent rural-to-urban migration in a way that jobs that require higher levels of education and training never can. Bangladesh has two out of five women of working age in the labor force, double India’s 21% participation rate.

A bigger danger is that instead of taking corrective action, politicians may double down on past mistakes and seek salvation in autarky: “Poorer than Bangladesh? Never mind. We can erect barriers to imports and make stuff for the domestic economy. Let’s create jobs that way.” Sud-denly, the 1960s and ’70s slogan of self-reliance is making a return in economic policy.

It’s in dispelling this pessimism that the Chatterjee-Subramanian study comes in handy again: Contrary to popular belief, India has been an exemplar of export-led growth, doing better than all countries

except China and Vietnam. The glass is more than half full.Trade has worked for the country. It’s the composition that’s wrong, because of an unusual “comparative advantage–defy-ing specialization,” the researchers show. India exports a lot of high-skilled manu-facturing goods and services, such as computer software. But as the world’s fac-tory, China is now ceding room to others at the lower end of the spectrum. That is where India’s opportunity — and the competitive advantage of its cheap and not particularly healthy or well-educated labor — really lies.Given the urgent challenge of creating at least 8 million jobs year after year, it’s also the country’s biggest post-pandemic headache. (1) At their current prices, and not ad-justed for the difference in the purchas-ing power of their local currencies. Andy Mukherjee,BloombergYahoo News

5 tips for coping with sciaticaSciatica is one of the most common, yet misunderstood, types of pain. As many as 40% of people will get it during their life, and it becomes more frequent as you age. Sciatica tends to get lumped in with regular back pain, but it is different. The pain originates with the sciatic nerves and often goes away by itself within a few hours or days. However, some attacks can come and go for several weeks or even months. Fortunately, there’s a lot you can do to prevent sciatica, as well as relieve the pain.Increase exerciseExercise is a key way to prevent or help relieve sciatica. Consider these types:

Aerobic exercise: walking, jogging, swim-ming, cycling, dancing, and other activi-ties that increase your heart rate without causing more pain if you already have sciatica.Strength training: exercises using free weights or weight machines, or isomet-ric exercises, which involve contracting muscles without obvious movement.Flexibility training: yoga, tai chi, Pilates, and similar activities that increase both flexibility and strength.Really, any exercise that you can enjoy and do regularly is going to help. So try something new, go back to an old favorite, or both.

Strengthen your coreIt might not seem obvious that a stronger core could improve your spinal health. But

your core is not just your abdominal mus-cles, even though they are key contribu-tors to the stability of your spine. Muscles in the back, sides, pelvis, and buttocks also are part of your core. Strengthening all of these muscles helps to support your spine.

Many types of exercise, including yoga and Pilates, can strengthen the core muscles. For example, planks and bridges are movements that target the core.

Avoid sitting for long periodsProlonged periods of sitting put pressure on the discs and ligaments in the low back. If you have a job that requires a lot of sitting, take frequent breaks, or try a standing desk. Less sitting is better.

Manage your weightBeing overweight or obese can increase your risk for sciatica. And people who have sciatica and are overweight tend to heal more slowly. Why? The increased weight puts pressure on your spine and can lead to herniated discs. Even minor weight loss will reduce inflammation and pressure on the spine.

Practice good postureMom was right—slouching isn’t good for you. But you don’t have to walk around the room with a book on your head to practice good posture. Follow these tips:

Pay attention to your body’s position when you’re standing or sitting.

To prevent slouching, pull your shoulders down and back. Imagine your shoulder blades touching. If you work at a computer, take frequent breaks. Posi-tion your monitor so you can see it without bending your head down or tilting it back. When the shooting, burning, tingling pain of sciatica strikes, you need help fast. And once you’ve had an attack, you sure don’t want it to return.

That’s why Finding Relief for Sciatica is so important to you and your loved ones.

This convenient one-stop on-line source brings you fast, easy-to-apply answers you need as close as your tablet, phone or desktop computer. For example:

Know your enemy: Detailed illustrations and clear explanations help you visual-ize the causes of sciatica so you can more confidently apply proven home remedies. Are you at risk? Anyone can experience sciatica, but research shows that there are five factors that increase your risk. Find out if you have one of them. Remembering Janab Vizarat Rasool Khan saheb. - Mohammed Khaleequr Rahman, FB

It is seven years that we lost a legend, an icon, a visionary, a leader, an education-ist Janab Vizarat Rasool Khan saheb. He was a two-time MLA from the Asifnagar constituency – in 1984 and 1985. Janab Vizarat Rasool Khan saheb is known more as an educationist. He had set up a string of 56 minority institutions, including 18 engineering, five pharmacy and four medical colleges. The first B.Ed college in the Shadan group was estab-lished in April 1988 and first engineering college in 1995. He established first Muslim medical college and hospital for Girls after independence in India...His legacy is being ably carried forward by his dynamic sons led by Sarib Rasool Khan bhai. We miss Vizarat uncle today and pay tribute to him for his services and the con-tribution to the society and the nation. Haazaron saal Nargis Apni benoori pe roti hai..Badi mushkil se hota hai Chaman me deedawar paida...May Allah swt raise his ranks in Jannat ul Firdaus Aameen

Two families devastated, Out of Nine who drowned four are still missing-In Spite of tragic incident Taher Qureshi still believes in humanity and thanks all those who helped him:During my childhood we used to sing “Rain Rain Come Again” but the rainfall which came on 14th Oct will be remembered by Mohammed Abdul Taher Qureshi-60 as a nightmare which cannot be forgotten by his family or any Hyderabadi which washed away nine members of a single family. It was around 2:00 AM that Mohammed Abdul Qureshi-60 year a resident of Ali Nagar in Mailardevpally saw his house wall collapsed due to heavy rains and decided to move to his brother Mohammed Abdul Quddus Qureshi house and woke up all the family members to move. As soon as his family member’s stepped out of his house he along with eight members of his family slipped in rain water. He was luckily to be saved after going in rain water for nearly 3 KM. He was tucked in a bridge later pushed up by rain. Later two bodies of his daughter in law’s Mrs Daraksha Qureshi-32 and Mrs Farzana Tabassum-26 were recovered and shifted to Osmania General Hos-pital for post-mortem. The second day two more bodies Farzana Humera-24 and Amena Bibi-7 were recovered and after post-mortem were handed over to the family for last rites. Namaz-e-Janaza was performed at Masjid-e-Ujale Sha Saidabad and burial at Sultan Daira Grave Yard Kurmaguda.Taher Qureshi brother Mohd Abdul Quddus Qureshi-56 who jumped to save his brother and Two Sons Mohd Abdul Wasey Qureshi-33, Mohd Abdul Wajid Qureshi-32 and grandson Mohd Abdul Wahab-5 is still missing. After final rites of four of his family members and in search of still four people, I met Taher Qureshi at his son in law Mohammed Omer (Adv) residence in Band-laguda, While recollecting his torment he showed all marks on his body and recollected as how he travelled 3 KM in rain water and got up stuck up in a Bridge and again pushed in by heavy flow of rain water.

One of their family members informed me that it was Mohd Abdul Wasif Qureshi and Mrs Farzana Humera’s second wedding anniversary on the day when this tragic incident happened. Mohd Abdul Wasif Qureshi is the third 3 son of Taher Qureshi who is working in Saudi Arabia and was unable to attend final rites of his wife due to flight ban.One more family member told me that both Farzana Tabassum and Farzana Humera are sisters and they lost their father five months back. It was first Farzana Tabassum married to Mohd Abdul Wajeed and later Farzana Humera was married to Mohd Abdul Wasif Qureshi. The entire family was saying that Mohd Abdul Wajid Qureshi who was an employee in an IT Company used to take care of the entire family. The grandfather Taher Qureshi was very much in deep thoughts about who will look after these two minors Mohd Abdul Qureshi-9 and Mohd Abdul Gani-6 who had lost both parents Mohd Abdul Wasey Qureshi (father) and Daraksha Qureshi (mother) and their only be-loved sister Amena Bibi.Very astonishing of this incident is that there was no response from the Telan-gana Govt to this tragic incident. As soon as I came to know about this tragic incident I met Taher Qureshi and tried number of times to put him on line with Sri K T Rama Rao, Minister for MA&UD Govt of Telangana but its past three days no public representative or any Govt officials have met or console the bereaved family. The family faced a horrible situation in shifting bodies from Mailardevpally to a Madarsa Jamiatul Banath in Saidabad and from there to Osmania General Hospital mortuary. There was no ambulance available to shift bodies and they shifted bodies in their private car and had to pay Rs/ 1250 for each post-mortem and they paid Rs/ 3000 for shifting bodies from OGH to Saidabad.Amjed Ullah Khan (Spokesman) MBT

NOVEMBER 2020 PAGE 40Ismail Darbar Confirms Gauahar Khan and Zaid

Darbar’s Wedding is on the CardsWhile there have been rumours swirling around dance choreographer and social media influencer Zaid Darbar’s romantic relationship with actress Gauahar Khan, the former father’s Ismail Darbar has now confirmed that the two are indeed dating each other. The Bollywood music com-poser and singer has also confirmed that a wedding is also on the cards for the two and if all things pan out, the lovebirds may tie the knot as early as November-Decem-ber this year.

In an interview, Ismail opened up about his son Zaid’s relationship with Gauahar and shared that he and his wife Ayesha are very fond of her. He recalled meeting Gauahar for four hours before she entered the Bigg Boss 14 house as a senior along-side Sidharth Shukla and Hina Khan.

About Gauahar, Ismail said, “My son Zaid

has told me that they are serious about each other. I have absolutely no objection. As a father, I did tell him once that she is 5 years older to him and make sure that this is real love before you take the plunge into matrimony. My son seems sure. And from the time, Gauahar spent with us, I can assure you that she takes immense care of him. Besides, my wife Ayesha has a knack of knowing if a person is genuine after she talks to him/her; she has found Gauahar genuine.”

To this Ayesha added, “Gauahar is a very sweet girl. We have left it to them to decide what they want to do with their lives.”

About their marriage date, Ayesha said, “We haven’t discussed any dates. But yes, if Zaid and Gauahar decide for tomorrow or after six months or even today, we are ready for whatever they want.”

Meanwhile, Gauahar is currently locked up inside the BB 14 house but may soon be coming out as she has just entered as a guest celebrity and is not a participating

contestant.Yahoo Lifestyle

Laxmmi Bomb trailer: Akshay Kumar promises scares and laughs in equal measure

The trailer of Akshay Kumar star-rer Laxmmi Bomb is out, and it is quite a throwback to Priyadarshan’s Bhool Bhulaiya, at least in terms of the treatment. Alongside Akshay, the film also stars Kiara Advani, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharad Kelkar, Tarun Arora and Ashwini Kalsekar. Laxmmi Bomb is the remake of 2011 Tamil film Muni 2: Kanchana directed by Raghava Law-rence, who is also directing the Hindi version.

The trailer shows Akshay Kumar’s character getting possessed by the spirit of a woman, and he then starts acting like one since his body is under her control. While the film is trying to create the mood for a horror-comedy, it reminds us of old Hindi movies where the transgender community was represented in quite a stereotypi-cal way. It is yet to be seen if Laxmmi Bomb will avoid those clichés and tell a story that’s sensitive to all genders

concerned.Towards the end of the trailer, Akshay also channels the classic Ashutosh Rana scream from Sangharsh that still sends shivers down our spine. From the trailer, it is quite evident that Laxmmi Bomb is trying to balance the story with some situational comedy and songs.

During a virtual press conference announcing the release of Laxmmi Bomb, Akshay Kumar had earlier said, “Horror-comedy is my favourite genre. I had done Bhool Bhulaiyaa before this one. I had heard this story many years ago and I always wanted to make this film. It was like my passion project, but it kept getting delayed for one reason or the other.”

Talking about his role in the film, Ak-shay said, “In my entire 30-year-long career, this has been my most intensive role mentally. I’ve never experienced

such a character before, with this kind of action, reaction, body language. Credit for this goes to my director. He introduced me to a version of me that I didn’t know even existed. Also, I had to be cautious of playing it with full honesty without offending any com-munity. For the first time, I willingly gave so many takes and retakes, so that every shot is captured to its maximum

potential. Even after doing some 150 films, I was very excited to be on set every single day, pushing my boundar-ies, learning more about myself. This film has taught me more about gender equality. Be anything you want, just don’t be ignorant.”

Laxmmi Bomb premieres on Disney+ Hotstar on November 9.

Chhalaang trailer: Rajkummar, Zeeshan and Nushrratt star in a classic love triangle

From the three minute trailer, Chha-laang, starring Rajkummar Rao, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, appears to be a simple story with elements of romance, drama and comedy adding flavour to it.The trailer of Hansal Mehta directorial Chhalaang is out. The film features Raj-kummar Rao, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in the lead roles.

From the three minute trailer, Chhalaang appears to be a simple story with elements of romance, drama and comedy adding flavour to it. Montu, played by Rao, is a PT teacher in a school. His professional choice is not because of his passion for teaching or sports. It’s just an easy choice which doesn’t require him to do much to earn money. But his life changes with Neelu’s (Bharuccha) entry in the school as a com-puter teacher. He starts liking her and tries to woo her in every possible way.

But which Bollywood love story has ever

been complete without a third angle. Here enters Ayyub’s character Singh who has been appointed as Montu’s senior. Now, how Montu faces competition from Singh on both personal and professional front, makes for the film’s narrative.Ila Arun as the school principal looks quite impressive. Saurabh Shukla and Satish Kaushik also make promising ap-pearances in the trailer. From the look of it, Chhalaang appears to be a film packed with some stellar performances.Chhalaang marks the fifth collaboration between director Hansal Mehta and actor Rajkummar Rao after critically acclaimed films such as Shahid, Citylights, Aligarh and Omerta. The film is produced by Ajay Devgn, Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg.Talking about Chhalaang, Mehta shared, “We made this film with the hopes of delivering a beautiful message through a light-hearted comedy. While being extremely relevant to student and teacher’s life, Chhalaang is a complete package filled with emotions of love, comedy, friendship, rivalry and emotional drama

making it a perfect Diwali family enter-tainer.”

Rao called Chhalaang a family entertainer. “Sports plays an essential role in building the character of children while having fun! Chhalaang took me back to my school days – looking back I realise how the sports I played in school have shaped me

as a person today. This is a special film – a true family watch and perfect as a Diwali launch,” the actor stated.

Originally scheduled to release on June 12 in theatres, the film will now have a digital release. It will stream on Amazon Prime Video from November 13.

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari trailer: Bajpayee promises a whole lot of fun

The freshness in the trailer is courtesy Manoj Bajpayee’s Mangal, who is used to subvert the patriarchal idea of men and their families testing the “charac-ter” of women in an arranged marriage set-up.The trailer of Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh-starrer Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari is out. Directed by Abhishek Sharma of Tere Bin Laden fame, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari is the story of a Mumbai boy Suraj (Dosanjh) on a bride hunt, which is thwarted by a detective Mangal (Bajpayee), who exposes the “ills” of prospective grooms to the girls and their families. When Suraj gets to know about Mangal’s actions, he decides to use his sister, played by Shaikh, to get even with him.

The over three-minute-long trailer gives away the film’s story which employs the most used trope in Bollywood films – two men fighting over a woman.

The freshness in the trailer is courtesy Manoj Bajpayee’s Mangal, who is used to subvert the patriarchal idea of men and their families testing the “character” of women in an arranged marriage set-up. Some of the double-meaning dialogues, however, appear crass. All three lead actors seem to be having a lot of fun, and while Diljit Dosanjh is acing the funny bits, it’s fascinating to see Manoj Bajpayee in an out-and-out comic avatar. Fatima Sana Shaikh has a pleasant screen presence.

The story has been penned by Shokhi Ba-nerjee, while the dialogues and screenplay are by Rohan Shankar, best known for his

work in Luka Chhupi (2019).

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari also stars Annu

Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Neeraj Sood, Abhishek Banerjee and Vijay Raaz.

LudoAbhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi’s Netflix thriller has enter-tainment written all over it What happens when a butterfly flaps its wings? Pankaj Tripathi falls through ceilings, Abhishek Bachchan kidnaps for the first time and Rajkummar Rao tries to paraphrase a Dabbang dialogue with middling results. That, and more, is what Ludo trailer of-fers us in just a couple of minutes. Ludo, which will come out on Netflix, has fun, chaos and fire written on every frame. The power-packed trailer shares a glimpse of several interesting characters, each one of them facing massive trouble in their lives, which all collide thanks to the butterfly effect. In the 2 minutes 47 second trailer, Ab-hishek Bachchan plays a naive kidnapper who calls a man to ask for ransom in re-turn of his kidnapped daughter. So feeble

is his attempt that the child has to step in and guide him. Then there is an ‘aashiq’ Rajkummar Rao who is approached by his long lost love, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh, to help in escaping her husband from the jail. In another end of the city is Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanya Malhotra who are in love but are not on the same page. Then there is also Pankaj Tripathi, probably an assassin who kills without compunction but ends up injuring his neck in the process.Netflix’s summary for Ludo reads: “Ludo is about the butterfly effect and how, despite all the chaos and crowd of the world, all our lives are inextricably connected. Starring an amazing ensemble cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Mal-hotra, Pearle Maaney, Inayat Verma, Asha

Negi and Shalini Vats, Ludo is four different stories tied together by unavoidable circum-stances.” Talking about the concept of the film, Anurag Basu had told Filmfare in an interview, “Ludo has a very inter-esting concept and it came to my mind 3-4 years back. It’s a crazy fun ride. It’s a ride just like ludo. There are 4 stories. 4 gotiyan hain apko pata nahi ki kon kisko kab kaategi. All are so interconnected. We

had a great time. It has a dark humour, romance and crime. All the tars have done a brilliant job, be it Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek or Aditya. Aditya Roy Kapoor is a big surprise; he surprised the whole unit actually. Abhishek Bachchan is back with a bang.

At one point the auditor exclaimed, ‘’Mr. Carelton, we feel it is a great privilege to be allowed to live and work in the USA. As a citizen you have an obligation to pay taxes, and we expect you to eagerly pay them with a smile.’’

‘’Thank goodness,’’ returned Mr. Carelton, with a giant

Later that night, the doorbell rang and it was the painter. “What’s the matter,” asked the homeowner, “did you forget something?”

“No,” replied the painter. “I’m just here to take your mis-sus out to dinner and a movie like you asked.”-----------------------------------------------------------For heaven’s sake, Chris, why can’t you talk to me once in a while?” Julie whined.

“What?” Chris replied.

“Look around!” Julie yelled, as she pointed around the room. “Look at all these books! You always have your head buried in a book! You don’t even seem to know I’m alive!”

“I’m sorry, honey,” Chris said.

“Sometimes I wish I were a book. Maybe then you’d at least look at me!” Julie exclaimed.

“Hmmmm,” Chris mumbled, “that’s not such a bad idea. Then I could take you to the library every few days and change you for something more interesting.”------------------------------------------------------------The boys were arriving back at the fraternity house after the summer vacation.
