This month the news isn’t good. With some luck and the benefit of experimental medicine, Jack will get about 12 months more to enjoy life with his wife and two young daughters. If it weren’t for the folks at The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust, who saved his life when he was in col- lege, he wouldn’t have made it this far. All proceeds from The Magicians Ltd Cookbook go directly to them, so when you buy the book you help save a life. Please buy it. Jack is spending his remaining time enjoying his family and also working on a book of his wonderful magical creations. We hope to have more of those for you very shortly. You may wonder about the sometimes convoluted process through which an article or interview comes to fruition in Genii. Our cover story on Patrick Page began seven years ago, when I would see Pat once a year while in London and ask him to be on the cover of Genii. He disappointed me on a yearly basis, but I’m too dumb to give up and, a year ago, he relented. Then I spent a wonderful afternoon interviewing Pat in London in the comfort of the Victory Services Club. I passed the tapes to Brad Henderson and Nancy Moon—she transcribed and he did the initial light edit. In the interim, Jim Steinmeyer joined the staff and I then passed the interview to him and he gave it a much more thorough edit, cutting thousands of words among other things. When you read interviews, they rarely tran- spire as neatly as they sound. Remarks have to be clari- fied, sometimes changed for accuracy, and sections have to be moved around so the piece is more coherent than two guys just sitting around and jaw-boning for hours on end. The interview is now funny and (I just can’t resist) Perfectly Pat. Its swift, easy, and entertaining “read” is the direct result of our new Associate Editor’s work. Of course, you don’t have to do anything to make Pat Page sound funny—he accomplished that bit very well on his own. • Eugene Burger returns with the second in his series, “The Showmanship Interviews,” this time coaxing some extremely fine advice for all performers from Lance Burton. • Scholastic, the long-time publisher of kid’s books, has been up to something really big in bringing magic to kids with the help of Chicago magicians Danny Orleans and John Railing—something that few of you have heard of.

Mark Phillips lets you in on the secret on p.50. • One of the more remarkable things about the Genii Forum—our online discussion board to which you are always all invit-ed—is that, every once in a while, its availability on the wide-ranging global Internet sometimes results in bringing people together. Diego Domingo relates the story of how three of Harry Blackstone, Sr.’s assistants were reunited. • My long-time friend and columnist Jon Racherbaumer was rushed into emergency surgery for a burst gall bladder in January and spent some time in intensive care afterward. During all of that he turned 67—being a hardy soul, he’s now home again and life has returned to normal—I’m very pleased to once again bring you his fine column “On the Slant” in this issue. • The 100th Anniversary of The Australian Society Of Magicians occurs this year and the folks down under are whooping it up with a big conven-tion—learn more on p.28. • Jim Steinmeyer brings you another “Language of Illusion,” and it’s lovely to have the Mascot Moth flitting through our pages. Our fine reviews round out the issue.
