Symbolizing the Fall of Mankind 

At elementary s"hool in Eindho&en in 184 a 9atholi" tea"her ordered the "hildren to draw male

 persons *$es(s% Adam : God+ in red  "olors and #emale persons *E&e and the &irgin ;ary+ in blue2,

A#ter the Fall o# $an the "o(ple had to be drawn in  purple% the "olor whi"h in <(t"h is named

/paars0, This "on"ept may ha&e impressed me altho(gh it didn!t really bother me (p till the time I

started oil3paintings,,,

O# "o(rse I .new  AEIOU  had been the medie&al A(strian emperor 5rederi". III=  !s de&i"e% #or 

whi"h he ne&er had e)plained an o##i"ial e)planation,

-ea&en!s door had been open as long as sin had been absent% b(t "losed as soon as the sin t(rned

Adam and E&e into p(rple > the synthesis "olor o# 8?@ red and 8?@ bl(e,

I am (ns(re abo(t the obje"ts at the le#t and right side o# Adam and E&e, They may ha&e been

symboliing trees% b(t I do not remember what my tea"her may ha&e intended, I de"ided to design

In repainting my "reation legend I sin"erely tried to imitate the "l(msiness o# an 63year old

yo(ngster% who may ha&e learned reading 1 or 1 year earlier 4,
