GET READY FOR A GREAT YEAR OF GIRL SCOUT ADVENTURES!Our programs offer every girl a chance to lead, shine, explore, and learn...all while making memories that will last a lifetime! Our 2018 - 2019 Program Guide is packed full of incredible events and activities for an amazing year ahead.

CORE PROGRAM FOCUS AREASAs Girl Scouts discover themselves and their values, connect with each other, and take action to make the world a better place, they become leaders that will change their communities. Our core Girl Scout program focus areas help guide that leadership experience!

Entrepreneurship

Girl Scouts build their business savvy and hone their financial literacy skills through badge programs, online learning, and of course, through the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs.

S.T.E.A.M.

From building a robot to designing animation for a video game, to discovering how a car’s engine runs and investigating how pollution harms the environment, Girl Scouts examine how science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) are relevant to everyday life.

Life Skills

Physical, social, and emotional health help prepare Girl Scouts for a healthy and independent future. Girl Scouts engage with topics including self-esteem and body image, nutrition, physical fitness, relational aggression and bullying, strong relationships, and positive lifestyle choices.

Outdoor

Girl Scouts unplug and explore the outdoors by going hiking, learning how to cook over a fire, rock climbing, kayaking on a lake, or by going to camp. Girl Scouts connect with nature and learn the ethics of care as environmental stewards.

Global

Girl Scouts become global citizens by understanding and appreciating cultural differences and by “thinking globally, acting locally” to change their corners of the world. With more than 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across the world, Girl Scouts are connected to a special international sisterhood. Girl Scouts also experience global connection through travel.

Take Action

Girl Scouts create and implement projects that make a lasting impact. Take Action Projects are longer-term projects involving measurable change, and Girl Scouts are dedicated to taking action! Girl Scouts has a rich history of empowering girls to help improve their communities, and Take Action Projects are at the heart of both Journey awards and Highest Awards (Bronze, Silver, and Gold).

GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND PROGRAM GUIDE 5

HIGHEST AWARDS

The Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards are the highest honors any Girl Scout can earn! These awards give Girl Scouts the chance to choose an issue in their communities that matters to them and then create a solution that really makes a difference. Find out more on the “Highest Awards” webpage link in the “About” then “Our Program” section of www.gssne.org.

Juniors may want to create a take-and-leave library for their Bronze Award, a Cadette could decide that she wants to begin a STEAM mentorship program in her middle school, and a Senior or Ambassador could found a sustainable advocacy group for immigration rights.

Whatever project you choose, the important thing to remember is that the issue matters to you!

BRONZE

The Bronze Award is earned by Junior Girl Scouts (grades 4 - 5), and can be a Troop project. It requires a minimum of 20 hours. This Award is approved at the Troop level, but make sure to let the Highest Awards Specialist know about your completed project so we can celebrate you!

SILVER

The Silver Award is for Girl Scout Cadettes (grades 6 - 8) and requires a minimum of 50 hours. Silver Awards can be a solo project, or earned within a team of two - four girls. Silver Award Training is required and projects must be pre-approved by the GSSNE Highest Awards Specialist.

GOLD

The Gold Award is the highest award any Girl Scout can achieve, and is earned by Seniors and Ambassadors (grades 9 - 12). This is an individual project, Gold Award Training is required, and those pursuing the award must complete

a minimum of 80 project hours. The GSUSA platform GoGold must be used, and projects are pre-approved by the Highest Awards Committee.

SHINE CEREMONY

The Shine Ceremony is our annual celebration of girls and young women who have earned the Highest Awards in Girl Scouting: The Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND PROGRAM GUIDE 27

The 2018 GSSNE Fall Product Sale Program combines educational activities along with money earning opportunities for troops. When girls participate in these programs, they can earn proceeds for troop activities and at the same time build self-confidence, learn strong values and how to work as a team.

This year’s theme is Speak Up, Lead the Way! The mascots for this season are two adorable service dogs! Girls will have the opportunity to do fun activities where they learn about the importance of these incredible working dogs.

During the sale, girls will be able to sell nuts and candies in-person or online along with magazines, and some great online-only items such as tumblers, organic veggies, and decorative fall themed candles. Be sure to check out this year’s Girl Scout collectible tin—a must-have for you and for a special friend. Proceeds from these sales help troops with their startup funds for the year. When family and friends purchase these items, they support not only their favorite Girl Scout, but they also are supporting the many programs, events and services that are provided by GSSNE each year.

The Fall Product Sale Program is a simple, fun introduction to Girl Scout product sales!
