GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT - Rob McPake Greetings again members and welcome to the first day of the new season. Time to rejuvenate after
the summer heat and bound into autumn like wild March hares! The football season is underway
so please feel free to view all the action live on our numerous screens. Don’t forget we are still
open for entrants in our NRL footy tipping competition which commences from Thursday, 14th
March 2019; just two weeks away. To date, we have about thirty (30) entrants; the limit being
seventy (70). Traditionally, there is a mad rush to enter in the last few hours. Remember: first in
best dressed! The competition is open for members at a cost of $20 and all entrants are invited to a complimentary
BBQ with refreshments on the prize presentation day held in September. Support the cause; be part of the action;
see reception staff for entry NOW before time runs out.
Our next Monster raffle night is scheduled for next Friday, 8th March 2019. The theme will be March Footy
Fever to commemorate the recommencement of all the football codes: NRL, AFL, Rugby Union and Soccer. There will
be a trove of prizes to be won to the value of $2,000 including, quality meats, fresh Australian prawns, footy
hampers, picnic baskets and cash prizes. The ten (10) footy hampers contain an array of products: football jerseys
(Roosters & Swans); drink carriers and protein bottles; leisure mats; coffee mugs, socks and trinkets all emblazoned
in local team colours (Rabbitohs, Roosters and Swanies); as well as a variety of savoury and confectionary items in
case you get the munchies while watching your favourite team! The $20 BUY BACK deal will be in play again too: buy
$20 worth of tickets, on one strip, and, if you don’t win a prize during the draw, you can redeem $20 courtesy of the
Club from 8:15pm through to close of trade. Come on, have a go; play for free at your Club’s expense! Lance and BJ,
the boys from BACK 2 FRONT, will be here for your musical entertainment, playing up a storm from 5:30pm to
9:30pm and the 2nd Chance Jackpot Draw may well stand at $900. Be here for the spectacle of the night; chance
your luck while supporting YOUR CLUB!!!!!
I take this opportunity to remind all our members who have not renewed for 2019 that time is running out.
Thank you to all who have renewed to date; we are grateful to have you back with us and in our care. To those who
have not: please, please, please, do so before Sunday, 31st March 2019, otherwise we have to cut you off, heaven
forbid! Lose the BLUE card and get GREEN to stay as members in 2019!!! As I mentioned in the previous newsletter,
there are two (2) Annual General Meetings fast approaching: Sub Branch AGM on Sunday, 17th March 2019 at
11:00am; and the Licensed Club AGM on Sunday, 24th March 2019 at 11:00am. Both meetings will be held in the
Club auditorium and those eligible to attend are urged and encouraged to do so. Nominations for Office Bearers of
the Licensed Club, this being a biennial election year, will close at 1:00pm tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 2nd
March 2019.
The 2018 Annual Report for Club Bondi Junction Waverley RSL Sub Branch Club Ltd is now available for viewing on our website. Hard copies are also available for those who fill in the relevant form. The Annual Report contains reports from the Club President, Treasurer and General Manager; reports from all internal sporting bodies: Swimming, Snooker, Lawn Bowls, Indoor Bowls and Darts; a copy of the agenda for the 2019 AGM and the Minutes from the 2018 AGM; as well as an extensive financial report presented by our Auditor, Phil Jones, from W.W.Vick & Co. The purpose of an audit is to produce a truthful account of an organisation’s financial standing. After three (3) gruelling weeks of intense investigation; viewing of financial documentation and extensive questioning, under the New Australian Accounting Standards pertinent to Licensed Clubs, I will never forget this! The final audit report presented to your Board by Phil Jones on Tuesday, 12th February 2019 revealed a high level of control over cash exercised by the administration. In particular, our Club Accounts Officer, Tina Del Vecchio, was referred to as very diligent in the conduct of her duties. I extend my appreciation: thank you for the great job you do, Tina! Until we converse again, I wish you happy times and happenings!! See you all bounding and bonding in the Club We All LOVE……………. CLUB BONDI JUNCTION!!!!!
CLUB PRESIDENTS REPORT -
Bill Harrigan Hello Members; Please note the nominations for our Board of Directors closes at 1.00pm this coming Saturday 2nd March 2019. So if
you consider you have something to offer as a Director then now is the time to submit a nomination form. If you do stand and be elected, and are not a member of the current Board you will be required to attend governance training and be a member of the NSW Clubs Director’s Institute. The ballot, once again, will be conducted by post, and the poll will be declared by the returning officer at the Annual General Meeting held in the Club Auditorium after 11.00am on Sunday 24th March. It is anticipated the meeting will include a report as to where we are at with the intended development of the Club site to all members in attendance. Furthermore, the Annual Report has been printed and is available on the Club website (or soon will be) which contains the 2018 Audit report. Although the audit indicates a loss, most of it was due to land tax, rates and income tax and losing one tenant and is currently under control. In the meantime the Club continues to ensure our members and guests are delivered good service and enjoy the hospitality the Club offers. We are currently in the process of looking for a new contract caterer as the Bistro contractor has decided to move on. It is hoped the Board will be in a position to finalise this matter at its next meeting on Tuesday 12th March. Next week I am off to Laurieton for a week’s holiday and hope to be back either Friday or Saturday 9th March dependant upon the weather and the fishing. See you in our Club and have a great weekend.

SUB-BRANCH REPORT
- Sue Welman (Secretary) Hello members, The committee’s survey responses re. the constitution have been collated and sent into RSL head office.
Life is sometimes stranger than fiction. I would like to share an excerpt from my father’s book “Randwick to Hargicourt, History of the 3rd Battalion AIF” by Eric Wren… “Many picturesque soldiers of fortune fought with the AIF. Perhaps the most remarkable was Private Williams—at least, that is the name by which he was known in the Australian unit. Williams originally landed at Helles on April 28th with the French Foreign Legion, and by some means found his way to Anzac where he cheerfully and unofficially attached himself to the 3rd Battalion. The only echo that came to the battalion of his past, apart from the knowledge of his decision from the Legion, was that at one time he had served with the Coldstream Guards. On Lemnos, however, Williams' was placed under arrest for attempting to stir up strife among the older ranks of the battalion, and was handed over to the French. A court martial summarily sentenced him to be shot for desertion. Actually he was being marched off to his execution when he was recognised by a former officer of the Coldstream's. This officer interviewed his commander and obtained his reprieve, subject to the 3rd Battalion agreeing to again take him on strength. He continued to serve with the 3rd Battalion until the formation of the 55th Battalion and was killed in action in France long after.” Looking forward to seeing you on March 17th for our Quarterly meeting/AGM.
There are two vacancies on our Sub-Branch committee available. Any interested persons
wishing to join, please see Sue Welman—Secretary.
