4. School Hours

• Morning assembly will begin promptly at 7.30 a.m. every day. All students are to

assemble in the school hall BEFORE 7.30 a.m. • Pre-assembly activities have been arranged from 7.20 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. to engage

the students who arrive early.

5. After-school Activities

5.1 Enrichment and Support Activities: Mondays and Thursdays (2 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

• Enrichment and support activities will be for students of different ability groups. These activities could include the School-based Dyslexia Remediation Programme (SDR), Reading Remediation Programme (RRP) and differentiated programmes and lessons.

5.2 Co-Curriculum Activities (CCA) Programme: Tuesdays and Fridays

7. Security and Procedure for Visiting the School

• For safety reasons, the school does not encourage anyone to come into the school

premises unnecessarily. • All visitors must report at the security guard post to state their reasons for their visits.

The security guards will issue official school passes to visitors before they proceed to

the General Office where the office staff will attend to them.

• The school gates will remain closed from 7.45 a.m. to 1.20 p.m.

8. Recess Timings/Lunch Break • This is a time for all students to have their food, rest and play with their friends. Parents

are not allowed to be in the school canteen during recess.

• Primary 1 Students (Day 1 and 2) Parents of Primary 1 students will be allowed to remain in the canteen for the first 2 days only. However, they should not occupy the tables and benches as these are meant for the students.

9. School Canteen Rules Sale of food to outsiders is not allowed. Food prepared in the canteen is for staff and students only. All students are required to queue up when they buy food and drinks at the canteen. Students are allowed to consume food brought from home.

10. Arrival and Dismissal Arrangement Parents who park at Church compound / Parents who walk from / towards Upper Bukit

Timah Road

Please note that the church car park does not belong to the school and we appeal to you to

park responsibly ONLY at the designated car park lots.

At dismissal, parents/guardians can wait for their child/ward at the extended parents’ waiting

area in the school canteen from 1:20 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Please note the following:

• Students will meet parents/guardians at the canteen and are to use the covered link

way leading to the pedestrian gate.

• Use the pedestrian crossing to cross the road.

• Walk safely on the pavement to the church carpark or towards Upper Bukit Timah

Road. Please follow the traffic guidelines at the pedestrian crossing.

Students who walk home (up towards Chestnut Drive)

• Students who walk home towards Chestnut Drive after school can meet their

parents/guardians/caregivers at the red umbrella which is placed next to the Security

Guard Post.

• Students are reminded to use the footpath that leads to the Security Guard Post before

leaving the school via the main gate. Please do not proceed to the front porch as our

students need to board the bus from there.

Parents/Guardians driving in (before and after school) Safety is of utmost importance and we seek the cooperation of parents to observe the

directions given by the security guards and traffic wardens and adhere to the speed limit of 15 km/h to ensure a smooth and safe traffic flow. All drivers are reminded to keep a safe

lookout for passengers alighting from the cars on the outer lane and allow them to cross

safely to the foyer during arrival time.

11. Paying Fees Through GIRO. Parents are strongly encouraged to pay the school fees through GIRO. GIRO deductions

are made on the 26th of every month.

12. Valuables

Please do not allow your child to wear jewellery or bring valuables (including mobile phones

and electronic devices) to school.

13. Instilling the Virtue of Responsibility We have been teaching our students to exercise the virtue of responsibility and self-discipline

in looking after their belongings. We encourage parents to assist us in helping your children

to learn that they have to bring their own belongings to school. Thus, if your child / ward has

called you to help bring their items to school, please refrain from bringing it.

We would also like you to note that students are not allowed to call their parents / guardians

during curriculum time. Calls can only be made during recesses or after school. We would

like to discourage parents / guardians from calling the General Office to pass messages to

your child / ward unless it is an urgent matter.

14. Monitoring Your Child’s Progress in School Your interest in your child’s studies will encourage her to do well. We will appreciate it very

much if you could check your child’s school bag and books regularly so as to keep yourself

informed of her progress.

15. Dialogue with Teachers You may need to consult with your child’s teachers regarding her class work and homework

from time to time. Kindly make an appointment with the teacher prior to the meeting.

16. Entering the School (Parents) For security reasons, the school seeks the cooperation of parents/guardians in the

following areas:

• To inform the security guard at the security guard post your purpose in coming to the

school. The office staff will then attend to you.

• Parents are not permitted to walk around the classroom blocks.

• Parents are to wait at the Parents’ Waiting Area in the canteen for your child to be

dismissed.

17. Updating School of Changes in Home Situations/ Home Address, Contact Details and Health Conditions of Students. Please notify the form teacher if there are any updates/changes in Home Situation, Home

Address, Contact Details and Health Condition of students.

18. Absence / Dismissal

• Any absence from school must be authenticated by a medical certificate.

• Absence from school examinations due to medical reasons must be authenticated by

a valid medical certificate. No marks will be given to any student who is unable to

produce a valid medical certificate.

• If a student is likely to be absent for 3 days or more at a stretch, the school must be

informed.

• No student may leave the school premises during school hours i.e. before the

dismissal bell, without the consent of the Principal/Vice-Principal/Discipline

Mistress/Teacher. Students must be accompanied by parent/guardian.

• Early departures from school must be recorded in the Early Dismissal Book in the

General Office.

• Prior permission for early dismissal must be obtained from the Principal for any urgent

leave. • Students should not travel overseas during school terms as curriculum time is

sacrosanct. Parents/ Guardians are requested to support the school in inculcating the

vales of commitment and responsibility as a student.

School Rules and Regulations SCHOOL UNIFORM

A. ATTIRE AND GROOMING 1. School Uniform and Physical Education (PE) Attire

• All students must wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the uniform is not allowed.

• The School uniform consists of:

o A pinafore, a blouse and a belt worn at the waist,

o Plain white canvas shoes fastened with laces/Velcro (no high-cut shoes) and

o Plain ankle-length white socks (7 cm above the ankle).

• All students must be in full uniform/school attire when they are in school or when

attending any activities organized by the school.

• For PE lessons and game practices, students must be in blue school shorts and

PE T-shirts.

• Students are expected to wear PE attire only on days when they have PE

lessons and Co-Curriculum Activities (CCA).

2. Hairstyle

• Students are to practise cleanliness and modesty.

• Overall hair appearance must be neat and well-kept,

• Fringe must lie one finger above the eyebrows,

• Hair should be clipped neatly with only black coloured hairclips,

• Long hair that touches the collar must be plaited or tied up with black hair

accessories and

• Tinting/colouring of hair and applying of gel are strictly not allowed.

3. Ears

• No jewellery is allowed except for a pair of small silver / gold-colour ear stud.

• Only one pair of plain, simple ear studs of the same design or ear-sticks

(colourless) may be worn.

• Ear rings are strictly prohibited for safety reasons.

4. Jackets and Outerwear

• Only plain colours are allowed.

• Hood section of a hoodie is not allowed to be worn on the head in the school

premises.

5. Shoes and socks

• Plain canvas shoes fastened with laces/velcro (no high-cut shoes),

• Plain ankle-length white socks (7 cm above the ankle)

6. Fingernails/Toenails

• Nails must be kept short and clean.

• Nails to be free from polishes, varnishes or paints.

7. Accessories

• Decorative ornaments, accessories or chains are not allowed.

• Simple and ordinary watches are allowed. No colourful or huge watches. The

diameter of watches should not exceed 2.5 cm.

• Electronic communication devices (e.g. handphones) and computerised aids

(e.g. computerised wrist watches, electronic fitness trackers, smart watches, etc.)

GENERAL DISCIPLINE

B. ACADEMIC EXPECTATION • Pupils are to practise responsibility by bringing the required

books/worksheets/materials for lessons. • Pupils are to practise self-discipline by handing in completed

homework/assignments on time.

C. GENERAL DISCIPLINE 1. Punctuality

• Students must be in school by 7.30 a.m. on school days.

2. Conduct

• All students must attend the flag-raising ceremony at 7.30 a.m. on school days.

• Students who are Singapore citizens must sing the National Anthem and take the Pledge. Students will take the Pledge with the right fist placed over the heart.

• Orderliness and silence must be observed during the flag-raising ceremony.

• No student is allowed to leave the classroom without the teacher’s permission.

• All students must vacate the classroom during recess. Students are allowed

in the classroom only when there is a teacher with them.

• No eating/drinking is allowed outside the canteen. No food or soft/sweet drinks

are allowed in any classrooms, special rooms or along the corridors. Students

must queue up when buying food from the stalls in the canteen. They must

return used utensils to the respective containers.

• Students must help to keep the school clean by not littering.

• Students should keep the toilets clean and flush after use.

• Students /classes must move about the school in a peaceful and orderly

manner.

• Students should speak courteously to everyone and be honest at all times.

• Students are to cooperate and be respectful to prefects at all times.

• Students are to practise purposefulness. Do not bring toys or other items that

are not related to school programs and activities such as mobile phones and

other electronic devices.

• All students are to practice peacefulness. They are not allowed to have in their possession any weapon or any weapon-like item which is used or intended to be used to cause harm to others.

• In our CHIJ Schools, we uphold the basic principle of respecting the dignity of

each person we interact with. Everyone in our school community has the

responsibility and a role to play in building a safe learning environment where

we treat each other with respect and understanding. As such our school will

not tolerate any unlawful or disruptive behaviour, including any form of bullying,

cyber-bullying, intimidation or retaliation.
