Modern Building Installation with ABB i-bus ® EIBTomorrow’s aspirations. Delivered today.

Changes implemented in a flash

If the office has become a conference room or thetop floor has been turned into a separate apartment, the functions of the building installation needmodifications.

Modifications such as these can easily beimplemented with ABB i-bus® EIB. You simply needto re-programme and the functions can be adaptedto the new requirements.

You are kept informed...

ABB i-bus® EIB makes it possible to continuouslydisplay current information about the buildinginstallation.

You can see, at a glance, the rooms were the lightsare switched on or which doors and windows are open.Measured values can be shown on a display andalarm signals can inform you about possible dangersin your building.

If someone has forgotten to switch off the light, youcan simply switch it off from the display terminal, without even having to walk up the stairs.

From a distance

You can monitoryour building via atelephone or theInternet. This isthe best way toremain constantlyinformed...

Intelligent installation systems

The ABB i-bus® EIB is an intelligent buildinginstallation system that meets the highest standards infunctionality, flexibility and reliability while beingfuturistic.

No matter where the ABB i-bus® EIB is installed -commercial buildings, industrial plants or residentialproperties, it provides increased security, efficiency, convenience and flexibility.

Functions such as lighting, shutter control and heatingcan be individually adapted to the requirements of theuser also offering the flexibility of making changeseasily.

Switching and control – wherever you are

With ABB i-bus® EIB, you can carry out all the requiredfunctions from any location in a building. It is alsopossible to remotely operate the installation, forexample via a mobile phone or the Internet.

With central commands and user-defined proceduresseveral functions can be performed using a singlecommand – for example all the shutters can beraised simultaneously, constant lighting control canbe activated and each room can be regulated to aseparate temperature, all with the single push of abutton.

Security around the building

With ABB i-bus® EIB, professional security functionscan be integrated into the building installation.A security control panel manages all security-relatedsignals and triggers alarms.

The security control panel can also be convenientlyoperated via the ABB i-bus® EIB. Signals can bedisplayed at any location or printed through a loggingprinter.

Automation

In building installations using ABB i-bus® EIB, functionsare not only executed via direct manual operation.Using “closed-loop” control systems, the user canpre-select an individual daily profile for the roomtemperature or the room lighting level can beconstantly regulated to a required value.

Time programs are recommended for recurring events.Shutters and blinds can be raised automatically toadjust to strong winds.

ABB i-bus® EIB monitors the building and can isolatefunctions such as electrical circuits in the event of afire or to monitor energy consumption.

How does ABB i-bus ® EIB work?

EIB – a unique system

ABB i-bus® EIB corresponds to the European system“European Installation Bus” (EIB for short) which isbeing used all over the world.

Since the EIBA (European Installation BusAssociation) merged with two other Europeanorganisations to form the Konnex Association, KNXhas become the new standard in building technology.ABB i-bus® EIB corresponds to both the EIB standardand the KNX standard.

Basic principle

With ABB i-bus® EIB, electrical loads are not switcheddirectly in the circuit with switches and push buttons asin conventional electrical installations (see Diagram 1).

Commands are sent instead from sensors (e.g.electronic push buttons) on a twin-core data cable andare received by actuators. The actuators then executethese commands, for example by switching the circuit(see diagram 2).

What does that mean in practice?

Electrical installations with ABB i-bus® EIB offer usersnumerous advantages.

Sensors and Actuators

Sensorsn Push Buttons and

Switchesn Room Thermostatsn Movement Sensorsn Time Switchesn Binary Inputsn Zone Terminalsn Current Modulesn Analogue Inputs

Actuatorsn Binary Outputsn Dimmersn Light Controllersn Shutter Actuatorsn Universal Concentratorsn Display Units

n Electrical loads can be switched independently offthe electrical circuit (e.g. the light in the hallway canbe operated from the lounge or from elsewhere inthe house).

n Electrical loads can be switched by several sensorswithout complicated two-way circuits or remote-control switches.

n Functional associations between actuators andsensors can be modified at any time and adaptedto individual requirements.

n All the functions can be programmed to runautomatically. Logic operations can also be created(e.g. if the brightness level drops below a specificvalue after 18:00 hours, all the shutters are loweredand the light in the hallway is switched on).

n The switching state of electrical loads can bedisplayed.
