The University of Vaasa has approximately 5000 students. Our beautiful campus is located next to the city centre in Palosaari, which is also home to other higher education institutions. A total of 12,000 students can be seen and heard throughout the year in Vaasa’s genuinely international cityscape. The buildings of the dense university campus surround a green park and the windows open up to the changing seasons of the sea with its birds, boats and ice fishers.

Science
For us, responsibility means addressing real problems and finding solutions through research. The quality of research at the University of Vaasa is of a high international standard.
Smart Electric Systems“We study smart grids which make it possible to utilise local sources of renewable energy. We also develop computer vision for various purposes such as monitoring the quality of foodstuffs.”
Human Resource Management as a strategic competitive advantage“Our research helps businesses to create a competitive and committed personnel base and to develop strategies based on supportive and efficient human resource processes.”
Contemporary Cultural, Linguistic and Regional Phenomena“The research group is united by a multidisciplinary interest in the cultural, linguistic and regional phenomena of our time. The main focuses of the group’s work lie on regional economics and rural areas in a changing world, on crossing borders between cultures, on language immersion and on lexicology.” Finance and Financial Accounting “We study financial markets and corporate finance, with emphasis on investor decision-making. Our research improves the efficiency of the allocation process of funds in financial markets.

FinlandLocation
Finland is located way up in Northern Europe, by the Arctic Circle. Sweden, Norway, Russia and Estonia are our neighbours.
Clean, safe and equal
International students choose Finland because it is an interesting, enjoyable place to live and study. Finland is known as a safe and clean country, where people are equal. Men and women have the same rights. Finnish society is stable and reliable.
Nature and four seasons
Finland is full of contrasts. Here, the four seasons contrast with each other, nightless nights of the summer interlace with dark winters, untouched forests and modern cityscapes interweave with one another, and the East meets the West.
Finnish people appreciate nature and a clean and tidy environment. Nature is an important part of the Finnish way of life for a very simple reason: it is everywhere. Free, equal education for all
We have one of the world’s most advanced education systems, which guarantees the same educational op-portunities for everyone regardless of social or econo-mic background.
The Finnish state of mind
Finland’s nature has shaped the Finnish state of mind. Under the hard rock shell beats a warm and trustworthy heart. Initial silences turn into friendships that last a life-time. Finnish people appreciate honesty and trustwor-thiness. To be Finnish is to have sisu: to be persistent, courageous and undaunted.

The University and Society
A modern university is in constant dialogue with the society that surrounds it and shares its expertise in every way. At the University of Vaasa we aim to be pioneers in this regard. We are constantly looking for new forms of collaboration to enable our University to be seen and heard in people’s everyday lives.

Part of the community. Listen. Explain. Set an example.
Alumni
Your time at the University does not end when you are presented with
your degree certificate. Alumni can offer a support network long into a graduate’s
career, and they are an important link to the world of employment, to the economy and to
the rest of society. They enable the University to be visible and influential, and likewise take onboard ideas
to develop its education and research programmes.
