GEMSTONE OF WEAK PLANETIf a yoga-karaka (or any good planet in the horoscope, lords of any houses other than 6th/8th or 12th) is debilitated, they must be strengthened. One of the ways is to wear the stone

of the debilitated planet. However, the more effective way is to find the planet who is

causing neecha-bhanga to the debilitated planet. If the neecha-bhanga is happening withrespect to the Moon, then Mantra would be a good remedy, however, if it happens withrespect to the Lagna, then wearing the gemstone of the planet causing the neecha-bhanga

would make the debilitated planet come out of the state of debilitation.

When there is no cancellation of debility of other weaknesses then the gemstones for thesupporters of the debilitated planet can be prescribed for causing cancellation of debility or

for enhancing the life-forces that are being destroyed due to the debility. For example, theMoon is debilitated in Scorpio (8th house of natural zodiac) and is said to be MARANA

KARAKA if placed in the 8th house from Lagna. Weakness of such Moon, in any chart is notgood for longevity. Hence a blue sapphire is used for enhancing the life-force. The

information regarding this is given at the detail section for each planet and their gemstones

It must be noted that debilitation of some planets are desirable in a horoscope. They are the

lords of the Dusthanas (6th/ 8th/ 12th). If the lords of the Dusthanas are placed in other

Dusthanas in debilitation, then it confers Vipareeta raja yoga, whereby the native gains dueto the loss of natural and functional significations of the planet causing the yoga. Forexample, if 8th lord Moon is involved in Vipareeta Raja yoga, by its debilitation in the 12th

house, the native might enjoy rise in life, but the Mother (natural signification of Moon) and

the marriage (8th house is the longevity of marriage) might suffer simultaneously. To enjoythe fruits of Vipareeta Raja yoga, the native must not strengthen such debilitated planetsthat confer the yoga.

VIPAREETA RATNA (OPPOSITE GEMSTONE)

Vipareeta means opposite or gemstones used for weakening the effects of some planets in

certain houses. If any house is occupied by an enemy of its Karaka, then the significationsof the house suffer. Keeping this principle in view, the first house to be checked in any chartis the ninth house of fortune and Dharma with Jupiter & Sun as the significator. Rahu and

Saturn are the enemies of these significator and if they are placed in the ninth house, theyshall damage fortune and Dharma. The remedy is to strengthen the concerned Karaka bywearing its gemstone in the ring finger. Suka Nadi states that if Rahu is in the ninth house,

then the native has good fortune after wearing a Topaz. The same principle of Vipareeta

Ratna (Opposite Gemstone) has been used here. Rahu is the enemy of Jupiter and since it isplaced in the ninth house, the use of a Topaz (gemstone of Jupiter) removes the misfortune

caused by Rahu. Similarly, if Saturn is in the ninth house, then the person may suffer from

poverty/ failure in the homeland after 36 years. To remove this evil, a ruby, the gemstoneof the Sun (Saturns enemy) is worn.

GEMSTONES VS. DASAS

Hands in which the gemstones are worn to be chosen on the basis of certain criteria. The

right hand is ruled Jupiter and the left hand by Venus indicating increase (right hand) ordecrease (lift hand) of life force.

Thus, if gemstones have to be prescribed to decrease the evil effects of a malefic planet, its

gemstone should be used in the left hand. Such use should be temporary covering the dasa-

bhukti of the planet.

When the planet is a malefic for the horoscope, the maleficence of the planet can be

reduced by wearing a counter gemstone temporarily during the Dasa-bhukti of the planet. Ifinstead a gem is to be worn for the main Dasa planet itself, then it should be worn in the

left hand. For example, if Rahu is malefic then during its period a YellowSapphire/Topaz/Citrine can be worn in the right hand ring finger or Hessonite/BrownTourmaline etc can be worn in the left hand middle finger.

VIRGO (KANYA)

For the Virgo Ascendant Saturn is lord of the fifth and the sixth houses. Because of lord of the fifth, a

trine, Saturn is not totally an inauspicious planet for this Ascendant. Consequently, the natives of this

Ascendant can wear Blue sapphire in the major period of Saturn.

The Lords of Dhana and Yuvati Bhava

Malefics in Dhana and Yuvati Bhava

Malefics conjoined with Dhana and Yuvati bhavas Lords (BPHS 44.3)

The major and sub-periods of these Grahas will bring death on the native, depending on

whether he is a long life, medium life, or short life person.

The Dasha of a benefic Graha, related to twelfth lord may also inflict death.

End may descend on the native in Eighth Lords Dasha.

The Dasha of a Graha, which is an exclusive malefic, may also cause death (BPHS 44.6 -

44.7)

Predominant Killer

If Saturn is ill-disposed and be related to a Maraka Graha (as mentioned above), he will be

the first to kill in preference to other Grahas. (BPHS 44.9)

There are three kinds of life-spans, viz. short, medium and long. Short life is before 32

years, later on up to 64 it is medium life and from 64 to 100 it is long life. Beyond 100 the

longevity is called Purnayu (10-14). Persons falling into these three compartments shall die

in specific constellations based on the Navatara shceme of classification of the Nakshatras

into three groups. According to Pt. Sanjay Rath, if the Janma Nakshatra is stronger to

initiate the vimshottari dasa, then the Navatara chakra is initiated from the Lagna

Nakshatra and vice-versa.

One born with short life combinations may face death in the Dasha, denoted by Vipat

star (3rd from the birth star)

One of medium life may die in the Dasha, denoted by Pratyak star (5th from the

birth star).

In the Dasha, denoted by Vadha star (7th from the birth star), one with long life may

obtain his end.

Longevity Calculation prohibited by Parasara before the native attains 20 years of Age. He

says to Maitreya, O excellent of the Brahmin! It is impossible to decide upon longevity till

the native is 20 years old. Till such year the child should be protected by sacred recitations,

religious offerings (of Ghee etc.) to consecrated fire, as prescribed in the Vedas and

scriptures and through medical treatments; premature death may descend on the child due

to sins of father and mother, or of his/her own (in the previous birth).

The Dasha of the Lord of the 22nd Decanate, or 23rd, or 3rd, or 5th, or 7th

asterisms may also cause death.

The Lords of the 2ndand the 12thi.e., Sun and Mercury, counted from Cancer, may

also bring death. This is true, when the Moon is a malefic. If he happens to be a

benefic, there will be diseases (not death).

Death may come to pass in the Dasha of Sixth lord and in the sub-periods of Sixth,

Eighth and/or Twelfth Lords.

Death Vs. Miseries

Should there be many Marakas and, if these Marakas are strong, there will be diseases,

miseries etc. in major and sub-periods. Thus these are Marakas and are primarily related to

bring death upon the native. According to their dispositions there may be death, or

difficulties.

Rahu and Ketu, as Marakas.

If Rahu, or Ketu are placed in Lagna, Seventh, Eighth, or Twelfth Bhava, or happen

to be in the 7th from a Marak Lord, or are placed with such a Grah, they acquire

powers of killing in their major, or sub-periods.

For one born in Makar, or in Vrischik, Rahu will be a Marak. For Capricorn, Rahu

becomes the 2ndlord and for Vrishchika, it becomes the 4thlord.

Should Rahu be in Sixth, Eighth, or Twelfth Bhava, he will give difficulties in his

Dasha periods. He will not, however, do so, if Rahu receives a Drishti from, or is yuti

with a benefic. (This is true for all the planets, who when aspected by benefics give

beneficial results and tone down their malefic results.)

Third house and cause of Death.

If Surya, being with strength, is in third house, one will obtain his death, due to a

king (legal punishments).

Chandra in third house will cause death, due to tuberculosis.

Wounds, weapons, fire and thirst will cause death through Mangal in third house.

If third house receives a Drishti from, or is occupied by ani and Rahu, death will be

through poison, water, or fire, or fall from heights, or confinement.

Death will surely come through insects, or leprosy, if Chandr and Gulika occupy, or

give a Drishti to third house.

Budha, giving a Drishti to, or occupying third house, will bring death, followed by

fever.

Guru in or giving a Drishti to third house, will cause death by swelling, or tumours.

Urinary diseases will cause death, if Shukr is in, or gives a Drishti to third house.

Many Grahas, giving a Drishti to, or occupying third house, will bring death through

many diseases.

Note: In the upadesha sutras of Maharishi Jaimini it is mentioned that cause of death can

be seen from the 3rd and 8th from Arudha Lagna.

Place of Death

If Sahaj Bhava is occupied by a benefic, death will be in an auspicious place (like a shrine)

and, if Sahaj Bhava is occupied by a malefic, death will be in sinful places. Mixed occupation

of Sahaj Bhava will yield mixed results with regard to the place of death.

Consciousness will prevail at the time of death, if Jupiter, or Venus are placed in Third

Bhava. With other Grahas in Sahaj Bhava there will be unconsciousness before death.

Distance of Place of Death from home:

According to third house being a Movable, a Fixed, or a Dual Ri, death will be,

respectively, in a foreign place (other than native birth place), in ones own house, or on the

way.

Note:The third house can be seen from the Arudha lagna instead of Lagna, as suggested

by Maharishi Jaimini.

Eighth Bhava and Nature of Death

Various planets occupying the 8th house from Lagna shows death by various means.

If it is Surya, death will be through fire.

if Chandr is in Randhr Bhava, through water.

if Mangal, through weapons.

if Budh, through fever.

if Guru, through diseases

if Venus, through hunger.

if Saturn, through thirst.

If eighth house is occupied by, or receives a Drishti from a benefic, while ninth lord is

conjoined with a benefic, the native will die in a shrine. If eighth house is occupied by, or

aspected by a malefic, while ninth lord is conjoined death will be in a place, other than a

shrine.

Trik Houses and their Lords

Houses 6, 8 and 12 are known as Trik houses. While these houses, their lords, as well as the planets that associate

with these houses and their lords are productive of adverse results, they are particularly adverse in relation to health.

How to Judge Diseases

Before we begin, I would suggest going through some of the good books on Medical Astrology.Medical

Astrology, A Rational Approachis a good book, so is Jyotish Aur Rog (), written by Pt.

Kisanlal Sharma. This book is published by Manoj Pocket Books and should be available everywhere.

The language and style of writing is very good. These books have a table for planets/rashi/bhava in

relation to most common diseases and it makes for a good reference.

This is how we should start the study of a horoscope for diseases. Look up the reference body part,

study the association with an agent and then predict diseases during the dasha period of all the planets

involved.

Reference body part:

Understand that organs and body parts are referenced by a house (bhava), rashi and a planet.

The planet representing an organ in their natural tendencies are the Karakas. The planets that

represent an organ through house ownership are the Lords.

Bad aspect/association of both these type of planets shows up as a disease.

E.g. Sun is the natural Karaka for heart. In a horoscope, 4th house represents heart. Hence to

judge for heart disease, we should look at influence on both Sun as well as lord of 4th house. If

one of these factors is strong, the effect of the disease are not likely to show up. If both are

weak, then the problems will be worse.

Agents causing disease:

In a horoscope, association of the Lord of 6th house with any of the planets will show up as a

disease. If both the Karaka and Lord are associated with 6th lord, then problems will be

magnified.

The planet Mars signifies wounds and injuries due to accidents, etc.

Rahu is responsible for suddenness.

Saturn represents chronic diseases.

Please note that association and aspect by an agent is essential. Weakness of the Karaka/Lord is

important. General Weakness, but not amounting to disease should be looked at very carefully. If a

planet is debilitated or is associated with other inimical houses, e.g. 12th and 8th, it will not cause

disease by itself. However, it will signify general weakness and lack of development for that body part.

Diseases and Sixth House

I would like to thank one and all for the overwhelming response that you had given to my last article.

That has encouraged me to write a second article for this astrology site.

Everyone in this world has a tendency to fall ill but some people have a better immune system than

others. That makes some people less prone to infections. According to medical science, tuberculosis is

a communicable and infectious disease but some people do not catch the infection even after staying

with a T.B. patient.

According to Vedic astrology, diseases are denoted by sixth house, its ruler and the karaka of the sixth

house, Saturn. Following the principles of bhavat bhaavam, being sixth from sixth, eleventh house

would also denote diseases.

When a bhava, its ruler and the rashi gets aspected by malefic planets, the person gets the disease of

the body part denoted by the particular planet. For example, when a horoscope shows an afflicted

sixth house, virgo and its ruler Mercury, the person would suffer from hernia. Persons whose liver does

not function properly should have an afflicted fifth house, its lord, Leo and Sun.

Sixth house shows the immune system - the inner strength to figth against diseases. Doctors, who spend

a lot of time between patients treating them, must have a strong sixth house. If sixth house gets strong
