Gems from Surah Ash-‐Shams ayat 11-‐13 13th November 2013 Tafseer Surah Ash-‐Shams Lecture by Sister Eman al Obaid
We don’t need anything in between Allah and ourselves. Once we open the Quran we are in direct
touch with Allah having a One-to-one conversation. In actual terms we cannot really hear Allah subhana wata'ala but the Quran is KALAMULLAH—the word of Allah subhana wata’ala Often we are so overwhelmed in life and are confused…. Sitting down and reading the Quran with understanding we realize SubhaanAllah that Allah is actually guiding us and giving a solution to our problems through the Ayats of KALAMULLAH. Alhamdulillah Quran is ALSHIFA-ALEEMA-T-USSUDOOR Shifah means remedy or cure for all diseases. Quran is a solution for all our problems, sickness internal or external. Huudan-‐-‐guide Quran is Hidayat-‐-‐-‐shows the path Nooran-‐-‐-‐-‐ enlightens our life Our life’s aim is to walk on the path Allah has told us to the right path
This path isn’t easy; it is difficult with Satan around us so Allah Subhana wata’ala has provided us with KALAMULLAH for our support and guide. • Support because we wont lose hope and give up in
time of hardship • Guidance from the mistakes previous nations made,
we are taught lessons of good and bad encouraging us to lead on to SEERAT-UL-MUSTAKEEN.
ALHAMDULILLAHI RABIL AALAMEEN. Now lets continue with Surah ASH-SHAMS-the sun. In this surah itself Allah takes oath by 11 things. • By the sun and its light • By the moon and its light • By the day and sunrise • By the night and its darkness • By the heaven and its CONSTRUCTOR • By the earth that is spread out • By nafs and who apportioned it • Then he showed it its fujor and its taqwa
If a person wishes for something’s Allah gives him so if we wish for good than Allah blesses us with that good and if we wish for bad then Allah gives him that too. The one who purifies his soul and heart Allah grants you success.
We can purify our soul by: - acquiring knowledge Knowing Allah Knowing the Quran All of this is purifying you with KALAMULLAH This was the recap of surah ash shams till ayat 10
The next 3 Ayats will talk about Thamud. They were a nation dwelling in the Arab Peninsula who were intelligent and powerful but were Disbelievers. So thus their value as humans wasn’t much since they were not believers. So Allah sent a messenger to their nation----Salih aalayi as salaam who would convey Allah’s message to them and guide them to faith and believe in Allah. Allah provided him with a miracle –a special gift as Allah had bestowed upon all his Messengers. The nation was asked to choose a miracle that would lead to believe in Allah So they asked a rock to be turned in to a pregnant she-camel. So Allah fulfilled their wish and provided them with a she camel and also put forth a condition. The condition was that one day was solely allocated to the she-camel drinking and other day solely to the tribe. The she-camel by Allah’s will won’t transgress on their drinking day! Now the nation had to abide by this law. Water was a scarce resource in the Arab peninsula so now having a full day solely allocated to the she-camel was too much for the nation to bear so their evil minds started planning evil. This is the brief story of the Thamud nation.
Ayat 11
THAMUD DENIES THROUGH THEIR TRANSGRESSION. Allah informs that Thamud rejected their messenger because of the injustice they practiced. This resulted in rejection in their hearts for the guidance and conviction their Messenger came with.
Denied-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐ Bi-‐-‐-‐-‐stands for their
Is transgression Transgression is basically exceeding your boundary/limit. On the Day of Judgment there are 2 categories of people Believers Non-‐believers. Believers are truthful their talks have value and they will receive their due rewards. On the other hand non-‐believers are liars and they reject the truth for which they will be duly punished! Now we don’t have miracles like she-‐camels but we have KALAMULLAH to learn our lessons and teachings from. The sun, moon, earth are all creation and miracles of Allah that are working in harmony and in estimated balance. And look at us humans how Allah has perfected each of us with our unique beauty SubhaanAllah Ayat 12
From shaqah-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐ Among the most wicked WHEN THEIR MOST WICKED WENT FORTH. MEANING: -‐ Since evil thoughts crossed their mind they wanted to kill the she-‐camel but who would do that. Now each tribe has one criminal or wicked person who has no fear of doing anything wrong. Being a disbeliever he has no fear of Allah also and no guilt that he is disobeying Allah. So the people sent this person forward to do evil which he also wasn’t able to to do So he drank and drank till he was drunk and then went to kill.
Ayat 13
Don’t harm Allah’s she-‐camel
But the wicked person didn’t care for the warning
because he being a non-‐believer has no guilt or fear of Allah. But a believer is opposite, if he errs in Allah’s command he will feel guilty for his action because he knows Allah is watching.
Allah knows that no matter what will happen this tribe will transgress yet when Allah sees them disobeying
he sends a messenger Salih aalayhis-‐salam to stop them and give them final warning… but being arrogant the wicked person pays no heed and kills the she-‐camel.
Inshallah will continue next class. May Allah accept all our intentions and hard work Amen Ya rabbul-‐aalameen.
