Theinstallationofourfishingsystemisveryeasy,butspecialprecautionsmustbetakeninordertoensureasafeandfunexperience.ITISCRITICALTHATYOURMOUNTINGSURFACEISCONSTRUCTEDINAMANNERTOPROVIDEASTRONGSURFACEFORYOUROUTRIGGERBASE.Ifyouhaveanyquestionsorconcerns,pleasefeelfreetocontactus.
Ouroutriggerbasesalsofeatureaonehandleoperation.Inorderforthisoutriggerbasetofunctionproperly,werecommend6.5”of360-degreerotationfromthecenteroftheoutriggerbaseinstallationhole.(minimumclearancetooperateis6”)

Whatmakesouroutriggersystemunique,isthesimplicityofourinstallation.Ouroutriggerpair(OR-BA-01-P)comesperfectlyassembledandpackagedwithyouroutriggerbases(1perbox),andthat’sit!Thereisnoassemblyrequired,justaquickinstallationandyou’rereadytofish!
UNPACKAGING
We’vetakengreatprideinthisproductandit’spackaging.Uponreceiptofyouroutriggerbases,pleasetakecarehandlingtheboxes.Theseareheavyitems,andcouldcausedamageifdropped.Beassuredthatyouroutriggerbaseissafelypackagedfortransitanddelivery.You’llfindthebasesfullyenclosedincustomcutfoam,inaperfectfittingboxtoensuretheyarrivesafelytotheirdestination.

WHATELSEDOINEEDFORINSTALLATION?
Duetothevaryingthicknessesofmountingsurfaces,weleavethefastenerbuyingtoyou.Itisrequiredthatyouuse(4)¼”-20fasteners.Alongwiththefasteners,here’sacompletelistofthetoolsneededforinstallation:
• 3.125”(3-1/8”)holesawifinstallingonflatsurface
• 3.25”(3-1/4”)holesawifinstallingoncurvedorcrownedsurface
• PhilipsHeadscrewdriverordrilldriver
• (4)¼”-20Fasteners(316SS)
• ElectricDrillwith5/16”and1/4”DrillBit
• BackingPlates(IfNecessary,AvailablefromGEMinanodizedaluminum,powdercoatedaluminumandStainlessSteel)

NOW,ONTOTHEINSTALLATION—
HARDTOPINSTALLATION
Ifyou’reinstallingintopre-existingholes,pleasecheckfor360degreehandleclearanceandproceedtostep5.
1. Measureyourinstallationareaforclearanceasdescribedabove.(minimum6”,recommended6.5”for360degreehandleclearance)Besurethatyourmeasurementsareaccuratetoensurefulloperationofyouroutriggersystem.SeeFigureA(Page
a. Thetemplatesuppliedinthismanualcanhelptoensureproperinstallation,butpleaserememberitisonlyaguide.Alwayscheckmeasurementsbeforecuttingordrilling.
2. Oncemeasurementsareconfirmed(topandbottomofT-top)drillyourcenterhole.(3-1/4”oncurvedtops,3-1/8”onflattops).Verifyatthispointthatyourhardtopissolid.Ifthetopishollow,pleasecallusforinformation.Ifyouareinstallingintoapre-existinghole,you’regoodtomoveon.
3. Dryfityouroutriggerbaseintoyourcenterholeandcheckclearancesandalignment.Thereshouldbeasmallgapbetweentheoutriggerandthecenterholeyoudrilled.Besurethatthisisthecase!Thishelpswithfastenerinstallation.
a. Ifyounoticethatthere’sanyrubbing,youcanwrapasmallholesawinadhesivesandpaperandcarefullysandtheholeedgesuntilthefitiscorrect.
4. Ifyouarecomfortablewiththedryfit,markanddrillyourfastenerholes.Ithelpstouseyourbluepainterstapeatthispointtomarkholesandholdtemplatesorbackingplatesinplace.Thetapealsohelpspreventanygelcoatchipsthatmayhappenduringdrilling.Thepreferredmethodtodothisistotapethebackingplate(ifapplicable)underneaththeT-topandusethatasyourtemplatetodrill.Use¼”drillbitfortheseholes.
5. Placeyouroutriggerbasebackinthehole,andperformaseconddryfit.Thistimearound,begintothreadthefastenersintotheoutriggerbasefromunderneaththetopinthe4mountingholes.Onlybeginthesetoensurealignment.
6. Onceyouarecompletelysatisfiedwiththeseconddryfit,you’renowreadytoinstallthebases.
a. Tapebottomedgeofoutriggerbase(tohelpwithsealantcleanup)
b. Ensureyouhavecleanedyourinstallationsurfacesthoroughlywithacetoneandallowedtodrycompletely.
c. Applysiliconetothebottomperimeteroftheoutriggerbase
d. Placeoutriggerbaseintoholeensuringthatyou’reliningupthefemalethreadonthebasetothefastenerholesyou’vedrilled.

f. ApplyLocTite242tothethreadsofeachfastener(4).
g. Beginthreadingeachfastenerintobottomofbase.Onlytightenslightlytoholdeverythinginplace.
h. PlaceasmallbeadofsiliconbetweenT-topandbackingplatetoensurenoleaks
i. Checkthealignmentandcontinuetighteningeachfastenerinoppositecorners,likeyouwouldthelugnutsonyourcar.
j. Useragsandacetonetocleanupanyexcesssealantaroundthetopofyouroutriggerbase
k. Allowtherecommendedtimeforyoursealanttocure

INSTALLATION TIPS
1. OUR OUTRIGGERS ARE NOT PORT OR STARBOARD SPECIFIC, THEY CAN INSTALL ON EITHER SIDE!
2. IF YOUR TOP IS CURVED OR CROWNED, PLEASE USE A WEDGE TO KEEP THE OUTRIGGER BASES LEVEL.
3. BACKING PLATES ARE AVAILABLE FROM GEM AND RECOMMENDED ON HARD TOP INSTALLATIONS.
4. MAXIMUM TOP THICKNESS FOR INSTALLATION IS 2.5”
5. ALWAYS ALLOW AT LEAST 6” FROM ANY 360 DEGREE INTERFERENCE

SOFTTOPINSTALLATION
Ifyou’reinstallingtheGEMLUXOutriggerbaseintoapre-existingsofttop(canvas),pleaseensurepropermountingplatesandstrengthbeforeattemptinginstallation.PleasecontactyourlocalmarinewelderorT-topbuilderforanyconcernsregardingthesepoints.
1. Locateyourexistinghole,andconfirmthatit’sthecorrectdiameter.(3-1/8”)
2. Dryfityouroutriggerbase,byplacingitintotheholebeingcarefulnottoscratchonthemountingplate.
3. Checkallclearancesforfullhandlerotation.(Ifbuildinganewplate,pleasebesureyourwelderknowsyouneedarecommended6.5”diameter,minimum6”of360-degreerotationalclearance)
4. Ifeverythingisclear,continueinstallation.Ifnot,youmayneedtocontactyourlocalwelder.
5. Placeyouroutriggerbasebackintothehole,beingsuretoalignyourfastenerholes.
6. ApplyLocTite242tothethreadsofall4fasteners(1/4”-20),andbeginthreadingeachoneintotheoutriggerbase.
7. Itisrecommendedthatyouusenylonwashersbetweenanystainlesssteelfastenersandaluminumpartstopreventanycorrosion.
8. Continuetighteningthe4boltsevenly,asyouwouldwithlugnutsonacar.
9. Oncecompletelytightened,doublecheckallclearancesandfastenerstoensureproperinstallation.
OUTRIGGERBASECAREANDMAINTENANCE
TheGEMLUXFishingSystemrequiresverylittlemaintenance.Werecommendusingsoapandwatertocleanregularlyandafteruse.Besuretoremoveallsaltresidueafteruse.Alightcoatingwithspraywaxwillhelpkeepyouroutriggerbaseingreatshape.AswithanyStainlessSteelparts,DONOTUSEANYHARSHCHEMICALStocleanespeciallythoselistedonourwebsiteathttp://www.gemlux.com/aboutgem/sscare.
Otherthannormalwashing,youroutriggerbaserequiresnolubrications,tightening,oradjusting.

INSTALLINGOUTRIGGERPOLESINTOYOURBASES
TheGEMLUXoutriggerbasescomewithapre-installedretentionpinlocatedabout3-1/4”fromtheendofthetube.Thispinisinstalledandremovedwithacrescentwrenchand1/8”Allenkey.Pleasebeawarethatanylonlocknutissupplied,andshouldbeusedtoensurethepindoesnotbackout.
1. Slideyouroutriggerpolesintothebases,beingsuretolineuptheretentionpinholeandholelocatedonyouroutriggerpolebaseadapter.
2. Inserttheretentionpin,andtightenusing1/8”Allenkeyandcrescentwrench.3. Ifyou’rehavingtroublewiththealignment,simplyturnyouroutriggerpolewhilewigglingthe
retentionpin.4. Doublecheckthepinandoutriggerpoletobesureit‘ssecured,andyou’refinished!
USINGYOUROUTRIGGERBASES
TheGEMLUXOutriggerbase(PatentPending)usesthesamehandleforraising,lowering,andswingingyouroutriggerbases.Thisfeatureallowseasyadjustabilityanddeploymentwithoutleavingthesafetyofyourboat’scockpit.Nomorestandingonthegunwaletodeployoutriggers.
1. Withthehandleinthe“down”position(asshownhere)usingtheknobforgrip;rotatethehandleclockwisetoraisetoyourdesiredheight.

2. Onceyourdesiredheightisreached,flipthehandletothe“up”position(shownhere).Grab
firmlyonthehandle,andusethistorotateyouroutriggertothedesiredfishingposition.Leavingthebaseinthedownpositionwillkeepbasefromrotatingwhilefishingandrunning.

3. Whenyourfishingdayisover,repeattheabovestepsinreverseordertostowyouroutriggers
forrunning.4. TheGEMLUXoutriggerbasewasdesignedwithfishermaninmind,anddoesnotrequire(but
recommendsinroughconditions)collapsingyouroutriggerpolesformakingrunstoandfromfishing.
5. Pleaserelievetensiononyourhalyardsbeforemakingadjustments,deploymentand/orretrievalofoutriggers.
6. TheGEMLUXOutriggerbaseshaveanoperableangle(upanddown)of65degreesto-10degrees.Pleasekeepthisinmindwhenmakingadjustmentstoyouroutriggers.
7. Alwaysensureclearanceofbridges,lights,powerlines,etc.…beforetraileringand/oroperatingyourvessel.
OUTRIGGER TIPS AND TRICKS
1. ALWAYS SECURE YOUR HALYARDS BEFORE TRAILERING OR OPERATING VESSEL.
2. CHECK CLEARANCE OF OUTRIGGER POLES ON ALL BRIDGES, POWERLINES, LIGHTS,
ETC. AND MAKE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS.
3. THE GEMLUX OUTRIGGER BASE WAS DESIGNED BY FISHERMAN FOR FISHERMAN.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO COLLAPSE YOUR OUTRIGGERS TO RUN FROM SPOT TO SPOT.
4. YOUR NEW OUTRIGGER BASES ARE CAPABLE OF PULLING MULTIPLE LINES, DREDGES,
AND TEASERS WITHOUT FAILURE.
5. THESE BASES ALSO ROTATE 360 DEGREES FOR EASY STORAGE IN DRY STACK WHERE
YOUR RIGGERS MUST FACE FORWARD.
