Jeff Geissler will be volunteering through Cross-Cultural Solutions, a world leader in operating international volunteer programs. Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS) makes volunteering abroad possible and provides the opportunity to experience another culture while making a real difference in people’s lives. CCS makes volunteering accessible to people who juggle full-time schooling, jobs, families, or other long-term obligations.

Jeff Geissler explains “This project would require that I fly overseas for a minimum of three-weeks to volunteer in Dharamsala, India- using my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree to work hand-in-hand with the local culture.” He further adds, “All CCS programs are run solely by volunteer contributions, and therefore each program has a fee. The cost for this three-week program totals $2,650, which does not include airfare and other travel-related expenses. My intention is to fundraise the money through CCS’ one hundred percent tax-deductible donation program. During my trip I intend on shooting a video documentary of my travels and the struggles of following one’s dream with the responsibilities of being a father, husband, and citizen.” Programs range in length from 1-12 weeks. Volunteers are given individual placements based on their skills and interests, and work in community development projects with infants and children, teenagers, adults, the elderly, and people with special needs like HIV/AIDS or mental or physical disabilities. These placements vary from caring for infants at one of Mother Teresa’s clinics in India, to shadowing doctors in Ghana, to teaching English to children with no access to education. The only pre-requisite is a desire to help others and an interest in cultural exchange.

In May 2003, Cross-Cultural Solutions was granted Special Consultative Status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Through this status, Cross-Cultural Solutions was recognized as an expert in its field and may be consulted on economic and social issues
