GEflfi PRODUCT TESTS & NEW STUFF NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE It's not often someone crows about new bull bars, but the design team at Opposite Lock reckon they're onto something with their new range of premium bull bars. Designed for the recently released Nissan Navara NP300, the Land Rover Discovery 4 and the Mitsubishi Triton MQ, the bull bars are airbag-compliant and have textured matte-black powder coat finishes for extra durability. They also feature central split- air dams, which maintain airflow to the engine and improve strength in full-frontal collisions. Heavy-duty polyurethane over-riders protect the bars against accidental-nudging damage, and a mounting provision has been included for low-mount electric winches. Each bull bar has three CB aerial mounts with a quick-fit cut-out. www.oppositeiock.cotn.au POCKET ROCKET Gerber's Cortex Flashlight is small, but it tries hard. It's completely waterproof, has a pocket clip for carrying, an anodised aluminium body and can run on either three lithium CR123 batteries or two AA batteries. With a maximum light output of 675 lumens, the torch also offers three light modes: high, low and strobe - allowing you to choose your preferred option depending on your environment. A lithium CR123 battery on high mode will last 1.75 hours. On low mode it will last 40 hours. An alkaline battery on high will last one hour. On low it will last 15 hours. au.gerbergear.com BOURKE AND WILLS TRAVEL GUIDE No matter how tough you're doing it, there was always someone who did it tougher. To see how tough some of the toughest did it, modem-day adventurers can use a guide book to follow in the camel tracks of Bourke and Wills - albeit from the comfort of a 4x4. Released by CSIRO Publishing, Following Burke and Wills Across Australia: A Touring Guide has more than 400 pages of maps, sketches, colour photographs and images, as well as the story of what happened to those involved in the iconic adventure. Each chapter provides information on the markers and memorials placed along the route, and you can stand where the explorers stood as you read their descriptions of each spot. Written by Dave Phoenix, the guide also includes travel advice to ensure a safe experience. www.publish.csiro.au PRESSURE-CONTROLLED EXHAUST Ironman 4x4 makes exhausts a little differently to others. Their mufflers are purpose-built for specific vehicle types, with a three-inch system that controls back pressure to the turbo. Inside the mufflers, dimples help encourage this back pressure while acting as 'speed bumps' to change the way gas behaves inside the chamber. When combined with 200-cell diesel-specific catalytic converters, the exhaust can help reduce 'turbo lag', with a more efficient flow of gas potentially lowering your EGT. The exhausts are designed, developed and manufactured in Australia for diesel 4x4s. www.ironman4x4.com Page 1 of 1 September, 2015 4 X 4 Australia, National Section: General News • Article type : News Item • Audience : 11,679 • Page: 144 Printed Size: 759.00cm² • Market: National • Country: Australia • ASR: AUD 3,439 Words: 453 • Item ID: 452389015 Copyright Agency licensed copy (www.copyright.com.au) For internal use of Isentia client only in accordance with Downstream licence terms.
