TransTec Reintroduces ZF6HP26 2001-up Kit

TransTec® overhaul kit number 2496 is being reintroduced to the mar-ket with an updated bill of materials.

After the initial release, our devel-opment staff discovered that the bonded valve body separator plate would cover only a limited number of BMW models — there are actually five plates to cover all current models. Rather than putting five plates in the kit (of which only one would be required for a rebuild) the original plate has been removed and it will be offered in bulk along with the other four when they become avail-able.

The TransTec® kit will continue to cover several BMW models as well as 2005-up Lincoln Navigators.

The updated kits are in stock and available for immediate shipment. The bulk separator plate numbers will be announced at a later date.

For more information on this and other TransTec products, stop by their web site, at www.transtec.com.

12-Volt, Blue Light Lamp Makes Leaks Glow Brightly!

Tracer Products has recently intro-duced the Tracerline® TP-1300 —

a 12-volt, blue light, high-intensity leak detection lamp that enables technicians to quickly pinpoint all leaks in seconds.

When you add fluorescent dye to an air conditioning or fluid system, it circu-lates throughout the system. Wherever the refrigerant or fluid escapes, so does the dye, which remains at each leak site. When you examine the system with the TP-1300 lamp, the dye glows brightly, exposing the precise location of every leak.

The TP-1300 features a unique, 3-LED lamphead with a bulb life of 100,000 hours. It provides power equiv-alent to 100W lamps with an inspection range up to 8 feet (2.4 m) or more. A 14-foot (4.3 m) power cord with alligator clips connects to the battery and increas-es versatility. Fluorescence-enhancing glasses are included with the lamp.

For more information about the Tracerline® TP-1300 lamp, call toll-free 1-800-641-1133; outside the United States and Canada, call 516-333-1254. Web site at www.tracerline.com.

Bowler Introduces New TV Cable Adjustment Tool

Are you tired of the trial and error method of adjusting your TV cable

on your 700-R4 and 200-4R transmis-sion? The crew at Bowler Performance Transmission sure was! That’s why they developed a kit to solve this problem.

Bowler’s TRU-SHIFT system is the easiest and best functioning TV cable adjusting system available. Just bolt on the supplied bracket and carbu-retor cam assembly, install the Bowler TV cable, then run the accelerator to wide open throttle: The cable will auto-matically adjust itself and you’re done.

With this system there’s no need to drop the transmission pan or install a gauge to check pressures; and best of all, no more guessing. Bowler even includes different throttle cable brack-ets to cover Lokar, Gennie, GM square and early round hole. Each one attaches neatly to the supplied stainless bracket.

Bowler has kits available for Holley, Edelbrock and Demon carbu-retors. Prices range from $249.95 to $295.95, depending on which carbure-tor you have. Bowler’s Tru-Shift was awarded 2008 Best New Product Under $500 for Hotrods and Street Rods in Indianapolis.

Consumer Advocates Fight to Keep ‘Rebuilt Wrecks’ Off Nation’s Roadways

The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) has joined a diverse coalition of consumer pro-tection, law enforcement, and auto industry representatives to urge the US Department of Justice to finalize a critical rulemaking to help prevent rebuilt, wrecked, flooded, or stolen vehicles from unknowingly ending up on a consumer’s driveway.

Each year, millions of vehicles are totaled, and many of them are refurbished and return to the road with no record of the vehicle’s severe dam-age. In an effort to benefit all used car buyers by reducing vehicle title fraud, Congress passed legislation in 1992 creating a national information system to link state DMVs electronically and to mandate that insurers and salvage yards report the VINs of junk and salvage vehicles to the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS).

In a May 20 letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, NADA, consumer protection organizations, law enforcement, and auto industry representatives strongly urged that the Justice Department make the NMVTIS rulemaking a priority by finalizing the necessary regulations to implement the insurance and salvage yard VIN disclo-sure requirements under the Anti-Car Theft Act as soon as possible.

In addition, the letter urges the Justice Department to make the NMVTIS data readily accessible to the public (via a web site or similar elec-tronic media) without waiting for the rulemaking to occur.

“The auto industry and consum-er advocates share the same goal of ensuring that salvage vehicle report-ing requirements are enforced under

the law,” said Ivette Rivera, execu-tive director of legislative affairs for the National Automobile Dealers Association. “NMVTIS presents an important opportunity to track poten-tially dangerous salvage vehicles — whether it is keeping a problem vehicle off a dealer’s lot or helping consumers spot a severely damaged vehicle.”

The Justice Department has failed to meet the Congressional deadline of January 1998 for implementing the rules for the NMVTIS database. Consequently, vehicle salvage fraud, title-washing and VIN cloning (switch-ing the VIN of a stolen car with the VIN of a similar make and model) continues to plague used car buyers.

NADA, founded in 1917 and based in McLean, Va., represents about 20,000 new-car and truck dealers with nearly 43,000 separate franchises, both domestic and imported.
