GEA member Corporate Protection Australia Group (CPA Group) has been awarded a three-year incident response services contract in the Western Downs.

Under the A$27.5 million contract, CPA Group will provide a full-time fire and rescue team at each of QGC’s three main operational sites near Dalby, Chinchilla and Wandoan in the Surat Basin.

The teams will form one of the largest private fire and rescue services in Australia with capacity to respond across about 4500 square kilometres.

About 50 trained personnel will have specialist equipment and vehicles to respond in industrial and field environments.

QGC is known to embrace the “One Team Being Safe Together” approach in everything they do. The One Team approach is all about sending everyone, employees and contractors, home safe and well at the end of every day and conducting all our activities in an environmentally responsible manner cognisant of QGC obligations to future generations.

“Having our own professional fire and rescue service keeps our workforce safe without placing pressure on local volunteer crews” QGC, Managing Director, Derek Fisher said.

Mr Fisher said QGC was pleased to engage a Queensland business for the service, which was another example of local communities benefiting from QGC’s investment in home-grown suppliers.

CPA Group, which has been operating in Queensland for 15 years, provides emergency fire and rescue response, incident management and reduction of fire and rescue risks to mining, construction and resources sites.

CPA Fire and Rescue services will provide a compliant service to meet all sites specific requirements. This includes the

provision of professionally trained and certified Emergency Service Officers, purpose built fire fighting appliances equipped for role and site specific rescue, HazMat and related support equipment.

CPA Group is a proud member of GEA and where possible, support other members of GEA. CPA Group welcomes fellow member that would like to contact us if they want to be a potential supplier or if they would like to speak to us about how our services could help their business.

Corporate Protection Australia awarded $27.5 Million safety contract

Cockatoo Coal Limited (‘Cockatoo’) advises that SK Networks, Co., Ltd (‘SKN’), the ultimate parent entity of SK Networks Resources Australia Pty Ltd, an existing shareholder of the Company, has agreed to extend its guarantee of the KEB Australia Ltd (‘KEBA’) $100 million loan facility to 28 September 2013 in order to enable Cockatoo and SKN to progress their current discussions regarding the refinancing of the Facility and future funding of the Baralaba Expansion.

Cockatoo has agreed to issue 50 million options to SKN on 15 October 2013 at an exercise price equal to the 20 day VWAP prior to October 15, 2013 as part consideration for the extension of the guarantee. Each option may be exercised to acquire one fully paid ordinary share in Cockatoo at the

exercise price at any time up to 15 April 2015.

Cockatoo, in conjunction with SKN, is now progressing discussions with KEBA to agree the Facility extension to 28 September 2013, to match the guarantee extension.

Further, Cockatoo has agreed to reduce the Facility to $95 million, with Cockatoo repaying $5 million from the proceeds to be received from the sale of its 30% interest in the Hume project as announced on 30 May 2013.

Cockatoo’s plans to refinance the KEBA debt and fund the development of the Baralaba Expansion are progressing positively with negotiations ongoing with a number of parties including SKN.

Safety Moment

In most industries in our area we would use some form of lifting device on a daily basis as part of our day to day operations.

There is a lot of emphasis now on the operator of the plant being competent and plant being inspected on a regular basis but in some cases we neglect to consider the condition of the lifting device itself.

Whenever we are lifting an object whether using a soft sling, wire rope sling, chain, shackle or other lifting device between the object and the means of lift (e.g. crane, forklift etc) we are creating a dangerous hazard that needs to be controlled.

If your organisation uses lifting devices in

the workplace whether in a workshop or in the field then ask yourself these important questions -

1. Do you know if these assets are being inspected and maintained in a safe and serviceable condition?

2. Do you know how many lifting devices you have and what condition they are in?

3. Do you know how many of each type of asset you have?

4. Do you know if they are correctly engineered and meet the required Australian Standard?

5. Do you know when they were last inspected?

6. Do you know when they were last tested?

If you can’t confidently answer these questions you may need to lift your game in relation to the safety of your people and your assets.

Lifting devices

Self Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) Trustee rules new lawLast year new laws were introduced to formalise the responsibilities of SMSF Trustees. A brief overview of these rules is set out below.

SMSF trustees must now:

• Regularly review the investment strategy of their SMSF

• Consider insurance for members of the SMSF as part of the fund’s investment strategy

• Value all SMSF assets at market value for reporting purposes, and;

• Keep assets held by the SMSF separate from the assets of trustees, members, employers and associates.

Reviewing your Investment Strategy

As noted above SMSF Trustees must review the investment strategy of their SMSF to reflect the whole of the fund’s circumstances. The rules state that the investment strategy must consider the following.

• Risks and possible returns

• Diversification

• Liquidity

• Ability to eliminate liabilities

• Consider whether the trustee should hold insurance policies for members.

If you haven’t done so already you should ensure your review has been completed by 30 June 2013, if not your fund may not be compliant.

It is also worth mentioning that the trust deed should also be reviewed prior to implementing any changes to ensure those changes can be legally made. If your trust deed is old then maybe now is the time to update it. It is also important that any reviews or changes made are properly documented in the SMSF meeting minutes and kept on file in case of audit.

If you have a SMSF and want help to implement the above changes please call us at GTC Financial... 30 June is approaching fast, don’t leave it until the last minute – act now.

The information contained in this article is general in nature and has been prepared without taking into account your objectives, financial situation or needs. Upcoming Event

40 Teams will be competing at the GEA Charity Golf Day presented by Projects Unlimited on the 19th of July at the Gladstone Golf Club.

The 2013 Charity Golf Day should prove to be as exciting as the previous two years with loads of golf-hole activities offered by the sponsors, corporate gifts as well as the cherry on top – A TOYOTA COROLLA to be won at hole number 7 for a hole-in-one!

Our sponsors this year are: Projects Unlimited, KTEQ Rentals, Bentley Systems, RPS Australia East, Hatch, Golding Contractors, CQ Digital Solutions, Generate PR, Custom Fluidpower, Aggreko and Heron Island.

This is a day of great generosity with the proceeds going to this year’s Beneficiary Charity, Roseberry Community Services. Colleen Tripe, the General Manager from Roseberry Community Services says the money will be used to extend the existing deck at Roseberry House on Rollo Street.

Roseberry Community Services will be raffling a 2010 Queensland Maroons Rugby Jersey signed by the whole team and a Bundaberg Rum Bathtub to boost the proceeds. Golf buggies are also open to tender. The highest tenders received will be notified on the 15th of July.

This 3-person Ambrose format will be played over 18-holes with T-off starting at 8am. Teams will be paired during registration. Be prepared for a great day of golf, fun and some extraordinary activities! Golf is a tough game to master, that is why a strong sense of humour is needed when playing or it will most likely result in breaking very expensive equipment and behaving badly in this ‘gentlemen’s game’.

Prizes include a night’s stay at the fabulous Heron Island, Gold Room tickets at the Gladstone Cinemas and state of the art digital printers!
