What Kind of Back Pack?

a Buy an internal-frame backpack that fits so that you can carry most of its weight on your hips and not shoulders.

a Most don’t need a really big pack. One with 32 – 40 L capacity (or even less) is plenty.

a Bottom compartment for sleeping bag if you choose to carry one. Side, back and top compartment easy access. Mesh pockets for water bottle (even better if tilted for easy access). Rain cover (especially if you’re using rain jacket rather than poncho). Sleeve for water bladder (If you like using one).
