    By Richard Luke

Kelman online DGA units are often installed in a variety of areasand environments and this raises questions when quoting. TheISO 12944-2:1998 standard details corrosivity categories andrecommends the correct grade of enclosure stainless steel forthe customers environment and application.

Our standard Kelman enclosure (98% of the equipment shipped)is made out of 304 stainless steel which covers the majorityof applications (C1 C3). All the Kelman online machines alsohave a higher 316L stainless steel grade available, which coversapplications operating in C4 C5-1. For marine applications werecommend that the C5-M paint system is used.

Note that in hot and humid coastal areas, the paint mass orthickness losses can result in becoming lower than the limits of

category C5-M. Special precautions must therefore be taken whenselecting protective paint systems for structures in such areas.
