    If the hot water has not beenused for two weeks or more, prevent the possibilitg of damage or injurybg turning on all hot water faucets and allow them to run for several minutes. Dothis before using angelectrical appliance which isconnected to the hot water sgstem.Thissimple procedure will allow any built-up hydrogen gas to escape.Sincethe gas isflammable, do not smoke or use anopen flame or applianceduring this process.

    PROPERINSTALLATIONAND MAINTENANCEThis dishwasher must be properly installed and located in accordance with the InstallationInstructions before it is used. If you did not receive on Installation Instructions sheet withgout dishwasher, you con receive one bg visiting our website at ge.com. Connect to a grounded metal, permanent wiringsystem; or runan equipment-groundingconductor with the circuit conductors andconnect to the equipment-grounding terminalor leadof the appliance.

    Improper connection ofthe equipment-groundingconductor can result in a riskof electric shock.Checkwith a qualified electrician or servicerepresentative if you are in doubt whether theappliance is properly grounded.

    Dispose of discarded appliances and shippingor packingmaterial properly.

    Do not attempt to repair or replaceany partof your dishwasher unlessit is specificallyrecommended in this manual. All other servicingshould be referred to a qualified technician.     Using a detergent that isnot specificallydesignedfor dishwashers will causethe dishwasher to fill withsuds. If your dishwasher is connected to awall switch, ensure that the switch ison prior to use.

    On dishwashers with electronic controls,if you chooseto tum the wall switchoff between wash cycles, allow 5-10seconds after turning the switch on beforetouching START/RESETo allow the controlto boot.

    Non-Dishware Items:Do not wash items suchas electronic air cleaner filters,furnace filters andpaint brushes in your dishwasheEDamage todishwasher and discoloration or staining ofdishwasher may result.

    Using the dishwasher.SmartDispense TMDetergent Dispenser ConomemodelslThis dishwasher may havea SmartDispenseTM feature Setthe door at a comfortable angle to fill thewhich automatically dispenses l iquid automatic dispenseEdishwasher detergent into each cycle based on soillevel and water hardness.To utilize the SmartDispenseTM Detergent Dispenser,it must first befilled. Although any liquidor gelautomatic dishwashing detergent can be usedinthe SmartDispenseTM system, all liquid or gelautomatic dishwashing detergents are not the same.Most automatic dishwashing detergents are chlorinebleach-based (such asCascadeor Electrasol)while others contain enzgmes (suchas CascadeComplete).Do not mix ang chlorine bleach-based automaticdishwashing detergent with any dishwashingdetergent containing enzgmes asthis could causethe detergents to congeal and lead to blockage ofthe SmartDispenseTM sgstem. Checkthe detergentlabel to determine if the detergent ischlorinebleach-based or one that contains enzymes. It isrecommended that the same type of detergent beusedwhen refilling your SmartDispenseTM system.

    Aim the detergent bottle at the opening in the doorand begin to fill.

    CAUTION! Absolutely do not addpowder detergent, tablets or any liquid soap ordetergent normally usedfor washing hands ordishesin a sink.Only use liquid or gel detergentspecificallydesigned for use in an automaticdishwasheE

    Loading the dishwasher racks.For best dishwashing results, follow these loading guidelines. Features and appearance of racks and silverwarebaskets may vary from your model.

    Upper RackAlthough the upper rack isprimarily forglasses,cups and saucers,pots and pans canbeplaced in this rack for effective cleaning.Cupsand glassesfit best along the sides.Thisisalso a secure place for dishwasher-safeplastics.The upper rack isadjustable (onsomemodelsto add flexibility in loading your dishwasheETolower,push tabs in and lower rack. Toraise,just pull up on rack until it snaps.Theutility shelf(on some models)may beplacedin the up or down position to addflexibility.A wine glass holder (onsomemodels)secureswine glasses for bestwashability. Becausewine glasses comein various sizes,after loading,slowly pushin the rackto make surethey will clearthe top of the dishwasheESomemodels have anAngledRackSystem,which allows you to angle your dishes,suchas coffee mugs, for better cleaning andquicker drying. To position the tines, pulltheleverforward, drop the tines into positionand release the lever

    The upper rack isgood for all kindsofodd-shaped utensils.Saucepans,mixingbowls and other items should beplaced facedown. Fold-down tines (onsome models)provide flexibility for extra-large and hard-to-fit items.Securelarger dishwasher-safe plastics over2 tines when possible.Make sure small plastic items are secure sothey can't fall onto the heaterBesurethat itemsdo not protrude throughthe bottom of the rack andblock rotation ofthe middle spray arm.This could result inpoor wash performance for items in theupper rack.Checkto make surethat no items will blockrotation ofthe wash arms.

    Lower RackThe lower rack isbest usedfor plates, saucersand cookware. Thesoiledsideof items shouldface the center ofthe rack. If necessary, oversizedglassesandmugscan beplaced inthe lower racktomaximize loading flexibility.

    Also,be carefulnot to let a portion of an itemsuch asa pot or dish handle extend throughthe bottom rack. Thiscould block the washarm and cause poorwashing results.Fold-down tines (on somemodels)provideflexibility for extra-large and hard-to-fit items.Thetines may beleft in the up position orfolded down to customize the lower rack.

    Caring for the dishwasher.Cleaning the Exterior Door PanelBefore cleaning the front panel, makesure you know what type of panel you have.Refer to the last two letters of your modelnumber Youcan locate your model numberon the left-hand tub wall just inside the dooEIfyour model number ends with BB,CC,WW,SAor BG,then you have a painted doorpanel.
