GDOT UAS PROGRAM UPDATE
Nov 7, 2017 – June 30, 2018
• Working with GDOT Legal Council, contacted other State DOT’s, created UAS policy based on FAA 14 CFR Part 107 Rules and AC 107-2 for UAS. Approved Nov 7, 2017
• Included any State laws that applied to UAS operations in Georgia and developed SOP
• Created forms to document Pre and Post Flight reports, Employee training request, Aircraft purchase requests, Master Post Flight Excel report, Training acknowledgement and Inspection form
• Developed responsibilities for UAS Manager, PIC, VO and required mandatory training
• Accident reporting process for GDOT and FAA

• Identify your Objectives are before you purchase a UAS
• Other states require 3-4 person UAS Teams • Simulators are a great learning tool • PIC is required to have all documentation on every
mission • National Defense Act Reinstated registration
requirement for all UAS over 0.55 lbs.
PHASE ONE: (completed) May, 2014 – “Feasibility Study to Determine the Economic and Operational Benefits of Utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)” PHASE TWO: (in progress) Field Testing with certain groups within Department (Intermodal, Construction) By November 2018 – recommendations for guidelines for use (will include safety considerations) Policy will likely be updated after Phase Two report
• Implemented UAS 107 Online Training Course $69 per Employee
• Waiting on OPB approval to Pay for FAA 107 written tests
• UAS Post Flight App being Developed by IT • Creating Draft GDOT UAS Contract
Requirements for Drones use on GDOT projects • Follow up training for GDOT UAS Pilots • Work with Districts who have no UAS Pilots • Reviewing Possibility of Purchasing UAS
