EWT ConCEpTThe G’Day USA Program provides students with the opportunity to travel to the USA during the Australian school holidays. Students travel as part of a supervised group with a teacher acting as the Group Leader. The Program is available to students from 14 to 18 years.

HosT Family sElECTionThe American host families are volunteers who willingly accept the responsibility of hosting a visitor in their home. EWT recommends having one student placed per American family, allowing the Australian student their own individual hosting experience. Each traveller is required to write a personal biography including introduction, hobbies, interests, sports, etc., complete with a recent photograph. The completed biographies are sent to our overseas Hosting Co-ordinators. It is the Hosting Co-ordinator's responsibility to match the Australian student with an American student and their family. Generally, one American High School will host the Australian school and all travellers will be staying in the surrounding local area. The American host student is required to complete a similar biography form to the Australian student. From the information on this form along with the Australian student’s biography, the students are generally matched on the basis of compatibility, i.e. same hobbies, sport, music or interests. In addition, the American student will generally be of the same age, and same sex when possible. Hosts provide meals, complete living accommodation and transport to school during hosting. Meals away from the home are at the traveller’s expense. The EWT Hosting Co-ordinator is available as a resource and contact person for the group during the host period.

HoW To Join a GroupPotential travellers express their interest to the Group Leader (a teacher at your school) who will invite interested students and parents to attend an information meeting where a detailed explanation of the program will be given by the EWT staff. An Application to Travel Form, Medical Release Form and Travel/ Medical Insurance Form (if applicable) must be submitted with a $500 deposit approximately 10 days after the information meeting if you wish to join the Program.

Group lEadEr duTiEsThe Group Leader is the focal person for the group and remains in touch with the travellers and host families during the entire tour. Leaders are required to co-ordinate the details and documents necessary for the tour.

Group Leader responsibilities include: • Preparation of the group for travel;• Maintaining regular contact with group members prior to departure. Inform parents and travellers of due dates for payments etc.;• Organising social functions to enable travellers and their families to meet each other, receive tour updates and get to know each other; • Being available to students at all times during the tour;• While overseas. liaising with the American host city co-ordinator, EWT staff and American host school coordinator; • Accompanying the group on all tours and school visits;• Communicating with the traveller's parent or guardian if the need arises.
