welcomeSituated in the sparkling Pacific Ocean, the archipelago of The Philippines is an exciting Southeast Asian tropical destination comprising 7,107 islands, of which 1,000 are inhabited. These islands are a collection of contrasts, from the intense, brooding green of the tropical vegetation, to the blinding white coral sands of the beaches and the aquamarine blue of the tropical seas. Add the heat and humidity, the colourful chaos of the towns and cities, and the brilliant smile on every face, and you have the essence of The Philippines.

From the bustling metropolis of downtown Manila, to the island and beach life of The Visayas, to the mountain villages of Mindanao in the south and the wild frontiers of Palawan, there’s something for everyone. Renowned for its biodiversity, The Philippines offers incredible natural wonders for dive enthusiasts and adventure seekers to explore; for sun worshippers, there are many stunning coastal resorts.

BORACAY IS AN ISLAND PARADISE renowned for its radiant beaches lined with palm trees. An ideal destination for families, Boracay offers an abundance of activities such as wind surfing, sail boating and jet skiing. Also a fairytale setting for romantics, it is not uncommon to witness a lavish wedding on the beach or see couples walking hand in hand against picture-perfect sunsets.

Boracay is a small island an hour’s flight south of Manila which, according to Lonely Planet, “holds the crown for the trophy beach of the Philippines”. The island is a 9km long and 1km wide haven of sun, sand and endless fun. Surrender to the laid-back ambience and adopt the barefoot and informal dress code: you will discover that a typical day includes tropical cocktails, sun bathing on powdery white-sand beaches, seaside massages under the shade of a coconut tree and one huge party from dusk till dawn.

If you can tear yourself away from the sunshine and warm, crystal-clear waters of the beaches, take a break to stroll around the island’s main hub, D’mall, where quaint little shops await you. Then unwind with a opulent spa experience and a well-deserved pampering session, preparing you for another day at the ultimate beach holiday escape.

THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY• Take a sunset cruise in a paraw, Boracay’s

signature sailboat.

• Rent an outrigger or yacht and indulge in a little island hopping.

• Take diving, sailing or windsurfing lessons.

• Trek or mountain bike to the quaint interior villages.

• Take a golf break at the Fairways & Blue Water Country Club.

• Relax in luxury and experience a traditional Filipino massage at one of the popular spas on the island.

HOW TO GET HEREKalibo and Caticlan are less than an hour’s flight from Manila. From Kalibo, Boracay is 90 minutes away by bus and a short boat trip; from Caticlan it is 20 minutes by boat.

A unique blend of natural beauty, historic sites and urban living, one doesn’t have to venture too far to experience Cebu’s cultural contrasts, or the serene white sand beaches of the island’s coastline.

Cebu City is a modern and bustling port with shops, casinos and golf courses. It is also renowned for its handicrafts: browse the boutiques and markets of Mandaue for local treasures such as classic furniture designs, and take time to strum a guitar, ukulele or mandolin, handmade by craftsmen in Mactan. Marvel at colourful tropical reef fishes and corals as you snorkel at Snake Island, a long sandbar that slithers on the surface

of the sea, much like the critter that bears its name. Go beachcombing with your kids for great family bonding at Starfish Island; you’ll have fun finding what else but starfish in varied sizes and colours, and other aquatic life forms. “Lu-li” a short term for “Lulubog-Lilitaw” is a tiny islet that is visible at ebb tide but disappears under water during high tide. A diving board here invites the acrobatic for a plunge into the depths of the pristine blue sea. Lovely Pandan Island has good reefs near small drop offs, a great site for diving and snorkelling.
