1.LANDMARKS - INVESTIGATE APPROPRIATE SOURCES, USE SUITABLE TECHNIQUES AND CREATE YOUR OWN TEXTILE INSPIRED BY LANDMARKSMeaning: An object or feature of a landscape or town
that is easily seen and recognized from a distance,
especially one that enables someone to establish their
location.
Can you think of any landmarks around you? Write them
down now in your books. Your ideas are all important.
Paul Nash WW1 Artist and famous
for landscapes
A great starting point for inspiration. You could relate this to the modern military. How about the military bases and landmarks around here? War memorials might inspire
you? You might explore mixed media, painting or drawing? Lots of potential!
Denise LabadieQuilts and mixed media
pieces based on ancient landmarks
Ideas:You could visit old
churches or monuments near you and take
photographs. You could focus in on the texture and
create a mixed media piece like this on the left. You might like to create more of a scene like the
image on the right. Perhaps you could visit Stonehenge and take
photos that could inspire a collage?
John Piperprintmaker and designer
of stained-glass windows
and theatre sets
Find a cool church, town hall, old
building or monument near you. Take some photos!!Mixed media, prints, image transfer...lots
of ideas that you could explore. You
could make a series of prints or lovely
textured mixed media creations?
Eleri MillsWelsh Artist that uses
childhood landscapes to make textile panels and mixed media paintings
Where is your favourite place from your childhood? Why not photograph the area where you grew up/are growing up now or
the special places that mean something to you? The lines that Eleri uses might inspire you to do some lino-printing or mono-printing. There's a lovely contrast of soft and bold in her work.
How could you recreate this?

2. OUTLINE - OUTLINE AS WELL AS OTHER LINEAR QUALITIES, IS SOMETIMES USED AS A DESIGN ELEMENT BY ARTISTS, DESIGNERS AND CRAFTSPEOPLE

enclosing or indicating the shape of
an object in a sketch or diagram. OR
draw, trace, or define the outer edge
or shape of.
Patrick CaulfieldBright, flat colours and simple shapes.
Bold and simple lines make these striking images. How could you re-create something like this? What could you use to inspire you?
Franco Grigani
Lots of precise and repetitive lines. Optical illusions and
limited colours. How could you something like
this inspire your own
work? Backgrounds?
Maltius Hoch
Perhaps you have an eye for photography? Hock likes interesting lines and viewpoints. Take some photos and see
where it takes you.
Lucie Rie
Perhaps ceramics is your 'thing'. The striking lines on these pieces are really lovely. Maybe this
could be worth exploring for you?
Anni Albers

designs on things such as rugs

3.From Above: Sometimes
designers and artists are inspired by aerial views. Where could you get up high for some interesting viewpoints? Close ups perhaps?
http://goo.gl/mksDQO
Carolyn Genders Maybe maps and
aerial views could
inspire some
ceramic pieces like
these? Carol Rhodes
Your inspiration might come from aerial views of the area around you? You might want to explore flat and
light colour like Rhodes does to make the images more modern
Alicia Merett
Perhaps Alicia Merett's abstract
aerial views might inspire
you? Bright, bold colours and
simple shapes make striking images. How could these
images inspire your own work?
Maybe you like the idea
of closer 'aerial' views like the Boyle
Family? Everyday
things can become
much more interesting
from unusual viewpoints.
Boyle Family
Jazzberry Blue Club
Another simplified version of an aerial view. Limited colour
palette and simple bold lines make this
effective. Is there anywhere that you fid really interesting that
could inspire you?

4. DIARY - CREATE A PIECE INSPIRED BY EITHER: A DAILY DIARY, A DIARY OF A JOURNAL OR TEXT RECORDED IN A DIARY
• This could be taken in many different ways. Here are a few ideas to get you started...
• The diary could be the final outcome...you could re-create a personal diary or imagine the diary of someone else?
• Thoughts that you've written in a diary or journal could then be used to inspire your work.
• You might take inspiration from other artists who've explored working with diaries and choose to re-create.
• You could make links to the military...perhaps look at world wars and the diaries/letters home. This might then be linked to the modern day wars.
http://goo.gl/mksDQO
Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo kept visual diaries religiously. You could do something similar. Perhaps
you could use these to inspire your work? Maybe your final piece could be a fabric book or diary? What kind of things
would you write? Lots of scope for a wide range of techniques and media.
Sandra Meech
Sandra makes notes in her diary and uses photos from her travels for composition ideas. You could take a photo every day on your phone and
then use it to create a wonderful composition like these. Perhaps an instagram snap or yourself everyday? collage and print could work really
nicely to make an interesting and personal mixed media piece.
Tilleke Schwarz
Tilleke uses snippets of overheard conversations and stitches it into her work. You could go on bus-rides, walk
around supermarkets or listen around school and make note of
converstaions. They might inspire a story or you might notice a pattern. Get some first hand images involved
too and this could be a really interesting embroidery piece!
Tracie Murchison Perhaps you might like the idea of sculpture or re-cycling old magazines and newspapers? You could create objects with a focus on text like
this artist?
Juliana Coles Perhaps you like the idea of pouring all of
your thoughts and feelings onto paper.
Your final piece might be a mixed
media painting like this one? A mixture of text and dream-
like images.This might inspire a
really personal piece.

photography, this might be a really useful artist to
start with.Postcard sized
images could be created about all kinds of subjects. A great starting point for some excellent AO3
evidence.
Sarah Fishburn These artists create mixed media collages
that might be an interesting starting point
for some of you? Perhaps you collect lots of letters or pictures or
decorative pieces? Maybe you save tickets from holidays or train
journeys. You could have a go at creating some really meaningful and creative collages using
things that are personal to you.
Charlie Holt
Eduardo Recife
Shaun KardinalPerhaps you could take existing postcards and then alter them a
bit like this artist? The bold shapes and use of threads are quite
striking. How could you recreate something similar?
