Meet Mary - Once Homeless, Now On Staff With GCRM

Mary, 54, (pictured here in front of the New Hope Family Shelter) is now on staff as a Shelter Shift Manager and says, “I knew God had other plans for me than the choices I was making…

I was scared and relieved the first day I came to the Mission.”

Where were you staying before you came to the Shelter? I was staying at another shelter.

What life circumstances led you to the Mission? Bad relationships, drug use, and becoming homeless.

How did you feel about your life before you came to the Mission and how did you feel the first day you came in? I knew God had other plans for me than the choices I was making… I was scared and relieved the first day I came to the Mission.

What are you learning while at the Mission? I am learning to “let go and let God”, to be myself, to be aware of my own health, to be open to God’s work in me and others, and to set boundaries, realize goals, and to help others when I can.

What are you most thankful for? I am most thankful for the programs, which are a great tool for each individ-ual person, for the classes that teach you how to make life changes, the Bible studies which teach about how Christ died for our salvation, the Genesis Class that teaches how past addictions can affect us, but that God is greater in us, and lastly, for seeing the victories that God brings to each client.

Thank you for your continued gifts that will help other women like Mary to sobriety through learning how to lead safe, healthy, & productive lives this year!

* LODGING NIGHTS, BUT GUESTS ALSO RECEIVE MEALS & PROGRAMMING

appy New Year to you! We want to say “thank you” and that we are so blessed to have you as prayer, volunteer and financial partners!

As you can see in the chart above, because of the generosity of donors like you, GCRM ended 2013 with $67,733 left over to begin 2014. These extra funds will be expended during the “Summer Slump” months when donors tend to vacation and financial donations decline, so we praise the Lord the year ended well!

For those of you who may wonder, “What did all that money accomplish last year?”, listed above are some interesting program numbers that we welcome you to review.

Overall, we had a 2% increase in nights of lodging and a 3% increase in meals over last years totals. These services were accomplished with almost the same number of staff.

Since we have additional bed/program space that could be utilized with additional staff and waiting lists in every program, we are working towards returning to pre-recession staffing levels. In the meantime, our dedicated staff will continue to keep the homeless alive and provide programming that will change lives in the name of Jesus our Savior and Lord.

If you would like to begin or continue your pledge to help the homeless, please fill out the form below. There is also a box to check if you’d like to help us reach our goal of raising $74,000 in 74 days (our Anniversary Date is April 9, 2014). Please feel free to call me at (209) 320-2314 if you would like to discuss this article, take a tour of the campus, or talk about additional projects and ways you can help in 2014. Thank you again!
