Overall Project Objective
To improve the overall household incomes within the
poorer and more isolated communities of Northern
Montenegro and Kosovo
Between September and December 2006 89 villages were
visited (35 % of all) 227 farmers interviewed

BOOKLETS IN SEVEN TOPICS WERE PREPARED
BY WORKSHOP PRESENTERS
131 demonstration plots established on 18.52 hectares comprised of:
- Legume cereal mixture; peas/vetch and oats on 56 plots (7.18 ha)
- Grass mixtures – 36 demo-plots on 4.81 ha
- Alfalfa – 12 demo – plots on 1.55 ha
- Improving natural meadows by artificial fertilizer– 27 demo-plots on 4.98 ha
Follow-on field activities First year: small forage and feed demonstration plots (most hand seeded)
All demonstration plots, small and large,
were established on 177 different farms
Second year: large demonstration plots
Joint activity with farmers was enabled by Project demonstration equipment
142 large demonstration plots established in the project area covering 65.49 hectares and
comprised of:
-Legume cereal mixture – peas/ vetch and oats– 87 demo-plots on 44.75 ha
-Grass mixtures – 31 demo-plots on 12.64 ha
-Alfalfa – 12 demo – plots on 5.44 ha
-Improving natural meadows by artificial fertilizer application – 12 demo-plots on 2.66 ha

Silage from peas and oats, vetch and oats, alfalfa and grass - 300 tons and maize silage –
450 tons produced
Expansion of the project region saw the number of farmers preparing
silage steadily increase
2011 data show 2,038 tons of silage prepared 33 farmers and comprised 993 tons of maize
silage and 1,045 tons of grass/legume silage
