131 demonstration plots established on 18.52 hectares comprised of:

- Legume cereal mixture; peas/vetch and oats on 56 plots (7.18 ha)

- Grass mixtures – 36 demo-plots on 4.81 ha

- Alfalfa – 12 demo – plots on 1.55 ha

- Improving natural meadows by artificial fertilizer– 27 demo-plots on 4.98 ha

Follow-on field activities First year: small forage and feed demonstration plots (most hand seeded)

Page 14: GCP,RER,019,LUX Montenegro part of the project presentation

All demonstration plots, small and large,

were established on 177 different farms

Second year: large demonstration plots

Joint activity with farmers was enabled by Project demonstration equipment

142 large demonstration plots established in the project area covering 65.49 hectares and

comprised of:

-Legume cereal mixture – peas/ vetch and oats– 87 demo-plots on 44.75 ha

-Grass mixtures – 31 demo-plots on 12.64 ha

Expansion of silage making in 2008

Silage from peas and oats, vetch and oats, alfalfa and grass - 300 tons and maize silage –

450 tons produced

Page 18: GCP,RER,019,LUX Montenegro part of the project presentation

Expansion of the project region saw the number of farmers preparing

silage steadily increase

2011 data show 2,038 tons of silage prepared 33 farmers and comprised 993 tons of maize

silage and 1,045 tons of grass/legume silage

Combined bottom-up top down policy changes

approach

• Montenegro agriculture budget has been changed many time based on the project field activities.

- Introduced subsidies for maize production for silage

- Certified cereals seed production subsidies

- Certified cereals seed production only for processed seeds - subsidies

Slow but sustainable process on long term
