    joyed it.

E CWhen you step through the ront

door your visual senses are overload-ed with eye candy in every direction.Stained glass art hangs in every win-dow, handmade jewelry drapes oncounters, and rescued statues andsparkling trinkets ll every othernook and cranny.

Basically, rom ormal to unky, theres something or everyone. Andin case youre wondering, yes, that isa headboard on the ceiling.

We have so many hanging itemsto display that we had to get re-ally creative about how and whereto hang our stained glass, windchimes, and ound objects, Meeks

said. When you look up youll besurprised at what you nd up there.

    T AiShipley Stained Glass Studio

Since 1976, Hal Shipley has beencreating unique stained glass art.Drawing largely on natural themes, his original designs are produced asone o a kind works or in limited edi-tions.

Shipley says he takes great care inselecting each sheet o glass beorebeginning a project.

Its important to nd the rightpiece o glass with the color variation

and veining that I need to enhanceeach design, Shipley said.

He said its not unusual or himto spend a whole day at an art glassmanuacturer searching or the per-ect piece o glass.

Meeks laughed and recalled a timewhen Shipley cut a piece rom thecenter o one o her sheets o glassthat is no longer being produced.

It had exactly what I was lookingor to nish a project, Shipley saidsmiling. Someday she might orgiveme or that. Well see.

In the tradition o master stainedglass artists, Shipley uses the copperoil technique, instead o lead.

    Te one-man-studio specializes in

custom designed work or residen-tial and commercial clients and has

a very impressive portolio to proveit. Te photographs show the detailand intricate cuts he uses to get thedesired eect to satisy both the artistand the customer.

Depending on the size and detail, each piece can take me either a ewweeks or months to complete, he

said. Tat depends on how manypieces o glass the cats in our studioknock o my work table.

With a large amount o completedpieces in stock, these day Shipleyocuses primarily on consignmentpieces, creating windows, lampshades, door panels, side lights, mir-rors and other works o art based onwhat the customer wants.

Many o his pieces can be oundin distinctive and historic homesthroughout Austin, including theAcademy House in ravis Heights, highlighted on the HGV nationalprogram Restore America.

Shipley also sells his work atvarious retail stores in the Gonzales

    County area.Windfall Designs

Jan Meeks relocated rom Austinto Harwood in 2001 where she andShipley built their new studio. Shestudied at Stephen F. Austin Univer-sity in Nacogdoches and works ulltime as a teaching artist.

Meeks is primarily a glass artist, employing using techniques in herdesigns. She creates wind chimes, used glass window hangings, and aline o unique jewelry.

In early 1990, Meeks began devot-ing all her time to art, experimentingwith material and techniques. Select

galleries and gi stores eature herwork.

Meeks said she loves teaching hercra, and has a strong background inteaching art to children and mentallyand physically challenged adults.

She says although she and Shipleyare busy setting up shop in Har-wood, she is still committed to bal-ancing her teaching time with herown studio time.

Were having un with this,Meeks said. Its something we al-ways wanted to do, and now botho our backgrounds are coming intoplay here.

Meeks has organized several artshows and they have both set up

countless booths at special eventsand Renaissance Fairs. Both say theyare relieved to not have to take theirshow on the road anymore.

We dont have to pack up andmove it all out in a ew days, so thatsa relie, Shipley said. Its time to havethem (customers) come to us.

Meeks couldnt agree more. Now our riends call us the red

booth with a roo! She laughed. Itsgoing to be a long process, but we areso excited and ready or it.

We were so sorry to hear o thepassing o Gaston Turmond. Wehonored Gaston and Ophelia asthe longest living sweethearts atthe Belmont United MethodistChurch. Tey were easy to loveand hug. We knew that one othese days we were going to loseone or the other o them, and welost Gaston at the age o 101. Wesend our sympathy to the amilyand especially to Ophelia.

We also send sympathy to theamily o Marjorie Macallister.Marjorie was one lively lady. Forso many years she was the wie oan active United Methodist Min-ister, Rev. Howard Macallister.

Tat entailed taking up the slackin whatever church they were in.Sometimes it was playing the pia-no and organ, or leading the Sun-day school, all the while she wasraising twin boys, Dwight and Sid.Keeping up with Bro. Mac was noteasy to do. When he retired, hereally didnt retire but he did getto slow down a bit and garden intheir little retirement place in theSaturn area. I know that her am-ily will miss her, and so will therest o the many riends and ac-quaintances that she latched on toor the many years that she lived.

We also lost Genevieve Brad-ley Vollentine this week. She was

dubbed as the First Lady in Gon-zales History and received sever-al awards rom the exas HistoryCommission. She also served asGonzales County School Super-intendent or many years. Shecelebrated her last birthday out atthe Belmont Social with lots o kin

and riends. She still was an activevoice in many o the committeesshe served on.

Mildred ONeal was not doingwell at all and had to be taken toMemorial Hospital. We send ex-tra prayers her way. Mildred is

Clarence Wayne ONeals mother.I went to school with ClarenceWayne, and he is kinolks witha lot o the other ONeals in thisarea.

I talked with Leah Ford andshe still does not have a landlinenumber so you will still have tocall her on her cell phone at 830-491-7016.

I will have to tell you that I ac-quired the neatest cane while Iwas being tted or shoes at JohnDaviss Health Solutions in Gon-zales. It is pink and white andhas the breast cancer ribbons onit in pink. A dollar o the pur-chase price or every cane is do-

nated to breast cancer research. So i you have to use a cane, andwant something beside the mun-dane, and something that will helpraise awareness or breast cancer, Iam giving you the thumbs up onwhere you can get one. And, noShirley Dozier, you cannot havemine. You will have to go buyyour own. Shirley D. had her sur-gery and went home the same day,but later in the week had troublebreathing and landed in the ER.She didnt have pneumonia asthey thought so she got pumpedull o antibiotics and sent homethat aernoon. Hope you get toeeling better really soon Shirley.

Bertha Schuler has the timeo her lie a couple o weeks agowhile house sitting and kitty sit-ting or her daughter, Karen, and son-in-law, Michael Miller.Tey took o on a trip to Jamaica. So Bertha had a little bit o heavenon earth while she took care o

grand-daughters Aniya and Ama-riah, and Callie and Gracie, theirtwo kitties.

We took in a meal or two overat the Cost Ca a week or soago. It is weird to walk into theca and see all o the Lindemann

Bros. grocery walls and even themeat counter. We had some deli-cious ood and talked with severalriends and even a relative thatpopped in. It was good to see Vir-gie Kier and her grandson. I thinkthat she is eeding him real good.

I think we need to take goodcare o these kitties. For two daysSamson and Dililah have had amouse cornered. One or the othero them would sit there on guardduty. Last night Will decidedthat he should help them out andmoved one box just a tiny bit. Asquick as a fash Dililah had thatmouse in her mouth and took owith it. Man she had a death grip

on that mouse. Samson was readybut Dililah was just a little aster.Aer she was sure that it had trulymet its demise, then she let Sam-son look at her mouse. And thankgoodness we saw to the demise othat awul skunk that ended upinside the yard ence right at oursteps. Poor Squeaky got sprayed, but Will got a little pu o thatspray too. I will have to do betterby these animals. I got some icecream to eat and then I put dietDr. Pepper on top o it. Tey stuckup their noses at that concoction.According to the critters, that wassome awul tasting stu. Oh well,I told them that this One and Iams

dog and cat ood was some superexpensive ood, and they had bet-ter cease complaining about theice cream. Man, these animalshave a super rough lie at thishouse!! HA!!

Have a good week and GodBless.
