    zales High School in 1934.She married her lielongpartner and riend, HenryHoward Vollentine, onJune 8, 1946. She was a1945 graduate o the Uni-

    versity o exas, Genevievetaught in Freer, Navasota,and Austin beore servingas Gonzales County SchoolSuperintendent rom 1950to 1979. While CountySuperintendent, she cre-ated the rst positions orschool nurse and truantocer. Genevieve was apioneer in the visual aidindustry. She developed a

    business around the use ovisual aid devices in educa-tion, and instructed schoolpersonnel throughout theState. Retirement was nev-er an option or Genevieveas she became an inspira-tional civic leader. As ah generation Gonzalesnative, Genevieve will bebest remembered or heravid interest in and dedi-cation to preservation inGonzales County. She wasinstrumental in the estab-lishment o the GonzalesCounty Historical Com-mission and the Gonzales

    County Archives. In 1975,she was appointed chair othe Gonzales County His-torical Commission. Sheguided the creation o Pio-neer Village, spearheadedthe renovation project orthe Old Jail, and developedthe tour routes o historicGonzales. She coordinatedresearch or, and publishedthe Gonzales County His-tory Book. Genevievereceived the exas Histor-ical Commission Distin-guished Service Award veyears in a row, and earnedthe Commissions Lie-time Achievement in His-toric Preservation Awardin 1978. Genevieve, TeFirst Lady o GonzalesHistory remained activeuntil the spring o 2011,regularly attending theGonzales County Histori-

    cal Commission meetingsto plan the restoration othe Old Jail Museum. Gen-evieve was an active mem-ber o her church, and wasthe rst woman to serve onthe vestry o the EpiscopalChurch o the Messiah inGonzales. She was a mem-ber o the Daughters o theRepublic o exas, and theDaughters o the Ameri-can Revolution. She wasnamed to the Whos Whorosters o exas, o exasEducation, o the Southand Southwest, and oexas Women. She chairedthe Gonzales County PolioFoundation, the AmericanCancer Crusade, and theGonzales U.S. Bicenten-nial Committee, and wasa charter member o theSpade and rowel GardenClub. Genevieve was cho-sen Citizen o the Year in1983, and was awarded the

    David B. Walshak LietimeAchievement Award romthe Gonzales Chamber oCommerce in 2001. Out-side o her public interests,Genevieve loved to travelwith her husband and am-ily, and loved to quilt andscrapbook. She enjoyedthe company o amily andriends, and always man-aged to nd time or achallenging bridge gameand tracking personal am-ily histories. Genevieve issurvived by her daughter,Lucianne, and her husbandDan Blakemore o Oak

    Point; her sons, WilliamBradley (Brad) o Huttoand Henry H., Jr. (Sandy)and his wie racy o Hut-to; ve grandchildren, Ash-ley Burleson and husbandDarren o Hagerstown,Maryland, Caris, Jess, Lo-gan, and Emma Vollentineo Hutto; two great grand-daughters, Sherri and KaraBurleson, o Hagerstown,Maryland; numerous niec-es, nephews, cousins, andhundreds o riends. Shewas preceded in death byher husband or lie, HenryHoward Vollentine, who

Kenneth gradu-ated rom Gonzales HighSchool and worked orommy Huber Construc-tion as a carpenter. Hehad worked or Carolynand Danny Malik tendingcattle and poultry as wellas James Lassig beore go-ing to work at Soncrest EggFarms. Kenneth enjoyedshing with his son and

    joking around with riends.

    He had served as a Vol-unteer Fireman in Smileywhen he was living in thatarea. Kenneth was a verydedicated and dependableworker and a loving andcaring man. He had beena long time member o theFirst Baptist Church inGonzales and has presentlybeen attending Faith Fam-ily Church as well.     Ange.Marjorie enjoyed a longlie ull o service to others.Her husband was a Methodistminister who was a sailor inthe US Navy when they metin Chicago. Aer the war Mar-

    jorie, her husband and twinsons Dwight and Sid traveledto exas which became heradopted home. As part o anitinerant ministry her amilymoved oen during her lie-time. Marge was an integralpart o her husbands ministryserving as pianist, organist,womens groups, choirs, Sun-day School and oen as bothpaid and unpaid secretary

    or the church. Marge lovedworking in the churches herhusband served, rememberingpast associations and nameso past church members longaer others had orgotten.Marge was a very talented art-ist, having painted many pic-tures or the amily. She had alove or fowers and plants andloved planting in the Spring.A great letter writer, her letterswere so clearly and beautiullywritten that amily and riendsremarked they envied her skill.Marjorie is survived by her sonDwight and his wie Cynthia oCost and son Sid and his wieMary Helen o Austin.     Si-L Ip Spk LiRachel Vargas, a certifed sign language interpreter with Vital Signs, Inc. o SanAntonio, was the guest speaker at the Monday, August 15th meeting o theGonzales Noon Lions Club. Ms. Vargas spoke o some o her many experiencessince becoming a certifed language interpreter and has done sign languageinterpreting in hospitals, universities, governmental meetings and on variousstages. She related an instance when she worked at the opening o MorgansWonderland in San Antonio and was on stage next to ormer Spur Daivd Rob-inson. The diminutive Ms. Vargas, who is just under fve eet tall, said she onlycame up to the belt buckle o the ormer NBA champion.Rachel was the guest o Noon Lions president Brent White and just happens tobe his sister-in-law.In other business, the Noon Lions will be cooking and serving a meal at a discgol tournament this weekend at the disc gol course on East Avenue.And the public is reminded that they have only about a week let to get ticketsor the annual Lions Fajita Dinner, scheduled or Thursday, August 25th at the
