Student Empowerment.

A great deal of empowerment is given to the students on regular basis during the entire two

years of MBA at GBS. This is done through a formal structure known as GMG (GBS Management

Guild).

GMG has various committees headed by students. These committees to name a few are sports,

cultural, academics, canteen, industry visit, industry institute interface, house keeping and like.

Through these committees the students are encouraged and empowered to organize activities

year long. This enables team work and leadership skills and presents a platform to showcase

talents.

Achievements :

Rank : First Rank to University in the first batch. Rank to University in the International

Marketing subject in the second batch.

Sports: General Championship Sports for 5 years.

Ratings to GBS: Business India rated GBS at “B++” grade, Electronics for you South Asia’s most

popular magazine gave 38th rank at All India level, P4 magazine gave “B” rating.

Placement:

The placement is worked on from the very Ist day with lot of planned pre-placement activities

like skills assessment, GD,PI, Personality development, aptitude skills enhancement, quantitative

ability build up, table manners etc.

The placement seasons begins in Nov/Dec every year. GBS has achieved 100% placement by

getting companies to the campus and placing all the students desirous of placement.

Berger Paints, Career- net, American Express, Pantaloon, ITC, SBI Life, Axis Bank, Tops group,

Vodafone are some companies that picked up GBS students. Each student thus got 4 to 5

openings to make a choice of their companies to work for.

The excellent placement is the result of carefully tracked out each student profile, clearly

identifying the suitability for a given job.

A good match of student profile to the job profile is the hall mark of placement at GBS.

Parents:

Parents are the integral part of GBS. Yearly parents meet Bhumika brings parents to GBS giving

them a chance to interact with teachers and management officials. This is unique of GBS.

Page 13: GBS INSIGHTS

13

Parents just do not come together in Bhumika but get to see their wards receiving medals for the

academic excellence as well as excellence in sports too.

Students getting medals in the presence of their parents and fellow class mates is the most

cherished moment GBS give to its students.

Alumni Convention:

The yearly alumni convention “ Reminiscence” brings the students back to GBS to connect to their

past at GBS. This provides the networking opportunity to all the students.

GBS: WHERE CONSISTENCY IS A WAY OF LIFE.

Global Business School, popularly known as GBS is an educational institution by GEN Society

promoted in 2007 to offer 2 year MBA course under the university system.

The idea of GBS is a result of meeting of minds among academicians, industry experts, the

businessmen and likeminded. It is a Corporate B School.

Intellectual Capital and Learning Process and Support.

Backed up by a good blend of faculty with a collective experience of over 127 years of teaching

and industry GBS strives to provide rigorous academic inputs with classroom contact hours as

well as the projects and field work spread over the entire duration of two years . Out of 14

faculties at GBS 3 hold Phd, 4 have registered for Phd, 4 is NET qualified, and 50% of the faculty

comes with industry experience ranging upto 18 years. The entire faculty is involved in various

papers writing in their area and GBS collectively has 50 papers to its faculty credit this academic

year. This makes intellectual capital of GBS rich and enables the class room teaching close to the

business world.

Besides its own faculty, the corporate involvement in curriculum gives GBS an edge in the

academic rigor. Corporate are involved in project evaluation, experience sharing, industry

mentors in internship. The regular interaction with practicing managers in industry in the

industry institute interface session at GBS on weekly basis facilitate the students to know the

working at industry as well as enrich with the experiences given by experts/practicing managers.

The learning is supported by the semi-circular classroom which is the uniqueness of GBS infra,

making the learning environment healthy and interesting. Further the Wi-Fi enabled campus

supports the learning ambience.

Realizing that students spend majority of their time on campus GBS has set up the canteen

helping the students with all the dietary needs during the day time. The breakfast/lunch time

help the students to spend the time together enabling the team spirit.

The library with over 1300 titles and 4030 volumes coupled with over 70 magazines and

journals learning CDs gives a constant back up to the students in the learning process.

While the library is there, it is also a practice GBS attaches lot of value with by giving a set of

books per semester to each student so that by the end of two year MBA each student will have

built a small personal library and thereby always has one book in a subject to refer even after the

course is over.

Student Empowerment.

The two year stay of student is made rewarding through the empowerment at student level.

The student association called as GMG presents each student to showcase his/her talents in

academics, sports, cultural, leadership and like enabling the management learning in practice and

giving the confidence so necessary when the students start their career in Business world joining

the Corporate.

During the it’s existence of last Six years, GBS has many credentials to be proud of - students

getting Rank in the first two batches speak volumes of academic process.

Sports

Perhaps GBS is the only MBA institute under Karnataka University to host yearly sports meet “

PINNACLE” since inception and has FIVE such meets in as many years. This is a drawing force for

some of best sports talent to MBA at GBS. The various University Blues in Volley ball, Cricket,

Badminton, Basket ball, Gymnastics have done their MBA at GBS in these years. This legacy

continues batches after batches. Yearly Pinnacle builds in sportsmanship, leadership and team

work culture in students so vital in today’s corporate world.

The Five consecutive championships in sports highlight the importance given to the sports

activities and student performance in sports.

The formally organized Pinnacle gives opportunity to select few students to show case their

sports talent knowing this well GBS makes a point to involve each student in sports by organizing

Intra-Pinnacle again every year.

Parents Meet: Bhumika

Involvement of Parents at PG level is a rare one because of the grown up students however

Parents are an integral part at GBS because GBS knows their role in shaping the life of their

wards. The yearly parents meet “Bhumika” since 2008 integrates the parents with GBS. This

gives them a platform to interact with teachers, members of management and fellow parents.

Bhumika has another important flavor for all. The GBS management has instituted GOLD and

SILVER medals for the students of passing out batch in academics, sports and leadership. This

practice is since the first batch which passed out in 2009 and so far Five such batches have been

awarded in yearly BHUMIKA. The Joy of the student to receive the medal in the presence of

his/her parents is a life time experience GBS has been giving year after year.

16

The selection trials for the award is a rigor filled exercise involving a panel consisting of teachers,

industry experts. The shortlisted students are put through a grilling process applying the

Balanced Score card method to take a holistic look at the student’s performance.

Management Day.

All India Management Association celebrates 21st February as the Management Day every year.

GBS being the management institute has aligned itself to this occasion by hosting a special lecture

by the people of eminence. This is a yearly affair since 2008 and continues.

Women’s Day.

Realizing important part played by women and the need for women leadership GBS has been

giving special importance to the International Womans day. The leading woman personality is

part of this occasion sharing the experience in the formal interaction. Its all Girls students and

lady staff that day since inception.

Management Fest : GALACTO & GBS UTSAV.

Learning is best achieved when mixed with fun. From 2008 GBS has been organizing the

Management Fest “ GALACTO” by-yearly. THREE such Galacto in last Six years has gone from

strength to strength and every batch has had the experience of organizing the galacto during its

association of two years at GBS. The two day national level fest adds immense learning to the

students bringing to test their organizing skills, problem solving abilities, marketing/selling

skills, time management, hospitality issues and so on. Galacto of 2008, 2010 and 2012 are a fond

memories GBS has given to its students.

For the benefit of under graduate level students the by-yearly GBS Utsav is another management

fest GBS conducts helping the GBS students to get in touch with their junior students of their

degree college.

Teachers Day.

Teachers shape the institutions and build them. Teachers do long for some acknowledgement

particularly after the formal career days are over. From inception GBS is honoring two teachers

yearly on teacher’s day on 5th Sept. Besides this the students organize the programme for the GBS

teachers.

Alumni Meet : Reminiscence.

The formal association of students with the institute comes to an end with the prescribed time of

formal education is put through. However the relationship is never ending this makes the alumni

as major stakeholder. GBS has been hosting home coming event yearly since 2011 making the

Page 17: GBS INSIGHTS

17

occasion formal by Alumni meet “Reminiscence” This occasion not only presents the past student

a single point to meet and get back to their student days and memory but presents a good net

working time for all the students of all the batches. With 3 batches of total 180 students already

in the field and another 120 slated to join every year the Reminiscence is a rising occasion and

has immense potential to GBS students.

Though the yearly reminiscence at GBS is there but in Bangalore lot of students meet their career

opportunity and as such many students make it a home. Realizing this GBS has started the

Bangalore Chapter namely “ Aapsme” to enable a common regular meeting point every month.

One such at Hubli is on the cards. The Alumni convention keeps the students in the loop even

after they finish their formal two year engagement at GBS.

Placement.

The Placement is an important phase in students’ stay at any institute. GBS knows it very well.

The placement build up happens from the 1st year through required skill training and

preparation. Yearly 30 to 40 companies are put in queue for the placement and all the care is

taken to get the companies suitable to the student profile and aspiration. GBS has consistently

achieved full placement for last Five years in tune with the employment scenario prevailing in

the environment.

The huge employment opportunity for the under graduate level students has drawn GBS to fulfill

its responsibility to the student community. Last three years GBS has hosted placement drive in

association with TCS and given opportunity to many students ( 200 students )at under graduate

level to get the employment with the prestigious TCS.

In the Globalised world exposure is not a luxury but a necessity. The international exposure puts

in enormous confidence in students. Through the international industry visits GBS is helping the

students in this area of confidence building.

Ratings and Rankings. CSR-GHRDC B-School All India Survey 2012 Ranks GBS at 32 in the category of Promising B-School Indian Management Journal (AIMA) Rates Global Business School in the Category of A4 in SuperStars of the south(A ranking of the business schools from South India). For all this consistency GBS has been rated with “A” ranking by Business India, “38th” ranking at

Mars, B by ICMR 4Ps, One among the best 44 B Schools by GHRDC, GBS Infrastructure referred by

Interior magazine. All this stands as a testimony of a sound footing that GBS has placed itself on.

years and commanded the

Airforce stations at Avadi,

Chennai and is the recipient of

Vishisht Seva Medal by the

President of India in 2007.

Dr. Sanjeev Kulkarni addressed

the gathering largely on the

began by explaining the

evolution of the health care

the homemade medicine and

then continuing towards the concept of ‘Dawa-kana` from the Mogul era to the concept of

British Government ruling era. It

continued and resulted in Clinics and

MBBS doctors. Today the whole

medicine and doctor notion is surfaced

into an Industry – ‘Health Care

more aware of their diseases and

tests involved due to the easy

grasp of the internet, therefore

the doctors also need to manage

the expectations of the patients.

Dr. Sanjeev Kulkarni cited the

poem by German poet Bertolt

Brechton, poem – ‘A worker’s

speech to a doctor’, bringing

forth the point as to how

sensitive today’s doctor need to

be to the complexities involved

in dealing with patients. And the

sensitivity is not just limited to

the patient but also very

essential towards the patients relatives, who are also significant in the relationship management

between a doctor and patient.

Air Commodore, Shri C S Havaldhar in his lecture spoke on the management in Indian Air Force,

Shri Havaldhar began with the mission and motto of the Indian Air force and articulated that the

armed forces are not maintained to wage war but the sole objective is to deter the war. He also

“Outbound Relish”

Dandeli-Bison River Resort

Nameeta Latur (Sparta)

Just one sentence comes to

my mind when I recall the

sweet memories of

Outbound at Dandeli; well

that is “Awesome

Moments”

On 1st December 2012, we all freshers Batch

“2012-14”, gathered in college at 7.am.3

vehicles were arranged respectively.2 buses were for the students and one mini bus for the

faculties. Later at 7.30 am we started our journey towards Dandeli with lot of hopes and loads of

fun which we truly achieved at the end of the trip. Initially we all were just like sitting enjoying

the nature through the panes of windows of the bus. But in due course of time, we started getting

closer to each other and that’s how we started getting within each other. Then gradually we

started playing Antakshari, damcharads and other several games. We could even not waste our

single moment and that’s how we utilized our precious time and enjoyed so much. We had our

breakfast at Haliyal, where that particular spot seemed to look just like another”Taj Mahal”.

Faculties along with our Director Sir were so friendly and they too made the day for us.

Page 61: GBS INSIGHTS

61

No sooner we reached the Bison River Resort; we had great motivational games arranged by the

Joha Adventures management people. Here we grabbed the opportunity to learn many activities

like games, management skills, goal setting and

all

that was essential for us to provide the urge of

acquiring creativity. Then we were all set for

Boat riding and Jaccuzzi Bath at the Bison River.

To enjoy the Jaccuzzi bath you need to travel

through the river Kali by boat to reach the

island. Don't ever miss the natural jaccuzzi bath

when you are at Dandeli!

Later we all got into the water and enjoyed being on “cloud nine”. Many pictures were clicked

with lot many sweet memories. Soon after the adventure we proceeded to have lunch and

enjoyed trekking in the evening along with all the student friends and faculties. This was a great

memory bank which stored enormous memories and as well not to forget many pictures being

team won the first place.Second game was productivity test. We were asked to utilize the

resources in a proper manner, we were given balls which were to be passed to one group

members at the end of I round. At the same time we need to count the rounds of balls being

passed. Third game was to choose the efficient manager of our game. We won this game too. The

experience or the lesson we learnt from the management games were, efficient utilization of

limited resources Over and above it was a gigantic

experience at Dandeli. The river boating Jaccuzzi

bath and every other activity during the trip was

exotic and mind blowing. Over and above all, it was

FLOWER RANGOLI COMPETITION-ON 10TH

NOVEMBER 2012

Ladies Association committee took the initiative to organize “Flower Rangoli Competition” on

10th Nov 2012 at GBS premises, through the Event Titled: Vyanjan – Manoranjan under Ladies

Association for both the First and second year students of GBS.

Background

Rangoli is originated from two words Rang which means colors and Holi which means

celebration. So Rangoli is an artistic celebration of colors. To recall our early lessons in physics

that all colors originate from white light. That’s why prayers to light or Sun god is one of the most

important prayers you offer in your daily life in Indian tradition. Sandhya-vandana (twilight zone

prayer) was nothing but to remind that all colors lead to just one color and that is white color.

Similarly beneath all emotions, thoughts, feelings, reactions – there is deep stillness always

available to you. Diwali is one such occasion, preparing Rangoli spreading happiness and joy,

Light is a mystic significance of cosmic stillness available to you beneath all colors of emotions.

Rangoli traditional Indian art In front of the house is one of the sacred and age old secret

phenomena of Intention. It is really an age old secret never got passed to current generation.

There are many traditions and customs associated with Diwali. Some make it traditional colors

and others make it with flowers with festival of lights just around the corner. Rangoli is really not

a mechanical or ornamental phenomenon. It is science of creating energy pool. You need to go

thru certain ritual of bath, mantras, Intention to create a Rangoli.

The competition was well executed by the Ladies association team; we had 9- Teams enrolled

from the First year students and 8-team from second year students. It’s an idea of Ladies

committee and support of the Director Dr. Ramakant Kulkarni and other faculty, and students

event coordinators Veena T and Soumyashree Shintre organized the flower Rangoli competition

and successfully done. The competition was scheduled on 10th Nov 2012, at 12.30 pm to 1.15 pm

for 1st semester student teams and 1.30 pm to 2.15 pm for 3rd semester student teams.

BLOOD DONATION

GBS conducted blood donation camps in association with Rotary clubs navanagar, Hubli Jan12 2013. GBS has been partnering with Rotary club in organizing blood donation every year for the past three years.

The objective of these camp is not just to donate blood units but also to make students aware about blood donation and its benefits. We make every effort to motivate students to come forward and donate for this noble cause. We specially encourage first time donors as we believe that once the initial hesitation/fear goes away, the donor starts enjoying and look forward to the next camp!!

BENEFITS OF BLOOD DONATION

1. It reduces the chances of heart disease.

2. Enhance the production of new Red Blood Cells (RBC)

3. It also helps in fighting hemochromatosis. (A disorder that results in too much iron being absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract)

4. Burns calories. 5. Basic blood test and few

physical tests like weight/BP etc are done free of cost before donation.

6. The biggest of them all. Your one unit of blood (Approx 350 ml) can potentially save three lives. The feeling is amazing.

MAKARA SHANKRANTI

Makara Shankranti is the harvest festival, a new year and the festival of rejoicing and celebrations

embracing the entire household friends and neighbors, the servants and the poor, the cows, and

then all other living creatures symbolizes universal love and kindness.

HOW UNIQUE IT WAS THIS YEAR AT GBS?

Yes, this year it was really unique at Global business School, Every time it was marked as a

holiday at GBS. But this year an idea

popped up in the mind of GBS Members

that why not we make it unique and

remarkable event. Thus ended up in

deciding that all will dine together to mark

the eve of MAKAR SANAKRATHI by

visiting nearby beautiful Unkal Lake.The

idea that came into reality on 14th January

was marked with joy embracing the entire

human resource of organization from top

to bottom celebrating the festival with

MID DAY MEAL.

As we entered the Unkal Lake it was

flooded with thousands of people

displaying the same culture of unity

and universal love and kindness, yes

indeed it was a unique experience to

all the members of GBS having lunch

in small shade, scorching sun beating

down from above. The space that

staff struggled for was a competition

by itself, as thousands of families

were busy to get their share of space

to dine. The delicious food ordered

from one of the GBS staff and left no

traces to complain for.

We all find and experience such gesture get together from our own respective family. Though not

related to each other biological but the same love and affection offered by the staff was a

wonderful experience. When organization offers the same love and affection as our family, then

WORLD BOOK DAY AT GBS LIBRARY

Global Business School, Hubli organized the World Book Day on 23-4-2013 to 25-4-2013 at its Library to celebrate the International Day of the Book or World Book Days.

The World book day was celebrated in a unique way at Global Business school library by having a Book Display of various and vivid collations.

World Book Day is a yearly event on 23 April, organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright. In 1995, UNESCO decided that the World Book and Copyright Day would be celebrated on this date the date is also the anniversary of the birth and death of William Shakespeare, the death of Miguel de Cervantes, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and Josep Pla, and the birth of Maurice Druon, Manuel Mejía Vallejo and Halldór Laxness.

Hence GBS Library decided to mark this event with its own style of celebrating it to promote reading habits and create awareness about the vast collection of the library.

On the first day that is on 23/4/2013 the books on case studies covering various subject cases with solutions were on the display. In addition to the books the compact disc of case studies were also the part of the exhibition.

Page 79: GBS INSIGHTS

79

The second day was on the books related to

General Management. The library having a vast collection of General Management were display and the users of the library were extremely a happy to see the vast collections

The Third and the concluding day was on fictions and it was also able to pull lots of attention of students and faculties.

Objective

The main objective of holding a book display is to make students friendlier about books, which is

always not possible by only seeing the jacket of the book or reading book reviews.

To create awareness and to establish the habit of reading in its students.

Conclusion: All though library follows an open access system , the users still ignore the books

kept in the racks and never takes pain to reach through the books and when such book display is

organized suddenly you find that the users are taken aback to see such rich collection of books.

Surprising when the book display was arranged the reservation of books went on a high speed

and appreciation and realizing that library had some wonderful collection was realized. The

event was successful as the users showed overwhelming response.

Faculty Coordinator-III DR. DAYANAND HUDED ADDRESSING THE STUDENTS

Dr. Dayanand Huded a renowned Kidney Surgeon from USA visited GBS on 18/11/12 and

interacted with students. Mr.Nagraj. Goudar, Director Placement introduced Dr. Huded to the

audience. Dr. Huded began by throwing some light on Kidney diseases. Most kidney diseases

attack the nephrons. This damage may make kidneys unable to remove toxins from the body.

Causes can include genetic problems, injuries, or medicines. You are at greater risk for kidney

disease if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or a close family member with kidney disease.

Dr. Huded then continued speaking on kidney stones. Kidney stone is a large crystal or "stone"

like structure that forms in the kidney. Different salts in the urine can precipitate to form a

stone. These salts precipitate most commonly when they occur in high concentrations in the

urine. Stones occur commonly and usually do not cause damage to the kidney or urinary tract.

Sometimes the stone remains in the kidney without ever being noticed. When the stone passes

from the kidney to the bladder severe excruciating pain ensues that is relieved only after the

stone has passed.

The speaker said precautions to prevent from being infected with Kidney Disease is saying no to

all types of unhealthy beverages and maintaining proper Water level in the body. He said people

with kidney disease can get cured by major advances in today's healthcare. We have better drugs,

and have upgraded dialysis machines. Dialysis is done when the Kidney is unable to remove

wastes. Dialysis is a process for removing waste and excess water from the blood. Dialysis is done

at regular periods of time and once it starts, has to be done for lifetime. Kidney disease comes

from the age of 5years and above and sometimes remains unnoticed.

He also stressed on some of the USA etiquettes wherein every citizen of USA is compulsorily

insured with Medical insurance and Medical record of every patient diagnosed is been put on

Internet wherein patient diagnosed by any other Doctor can get to know all his/her previous

Medical record on web.

Dr. Ramakant Kulkarni, Director GBS presented a memento to Dr. Huded. Prof. Jagadish Patil

anchored the programme and also proposed vote of Thanks.

Faculty Coordinator-III SHRI N. PANY VP-GROUP HR MSPL, ADDRESSING THE STUDENTS

Global Business School, Hubli has been able to establish itself as one of the top

business schools of North Karnataka within a very short span of time. As part of it’s endeavour to

maintain a close relationship with industry a student & faculty interaction programme was

arranged with Shri N. Pany, VP-Group HR,

MSPL, Hospet today.

Director of GBS, Dr. Ramakant Kulkarni

welcomed Shri N. Pany with a bouquet of

flowers. The illustrious guest was introduced

to audience by placement director Shri

Nagaraj Goudar. In his speech Shri Pany

highlighted the advantages students enjoyed

today due to progress made in the fields of

technology, teaching methodology, research and others. But however he regretted that despite

these things the present generation of students is not doing justice to what they learn.

He stressed the need for achieving mastery over languages which in turn leads to superior

communication and presentation skills. This along with an increased amount of IQ (intelligent

quotient) & EQ (emotional quotient) gained during the period of education helps make a person

perfectly employable, he said. He also illustrated the need to be aware of happenings in social,

economical and political environment surrounding us.

Once employed the only way to achieve success is to ‘fall in Love with one’s job’ he commented.

This along with positive qualities like

commitment, integrity, collaborative

efforts, good listening skills and thirst for

constant up gradation of the self make one

virtually undefeatable, he said.

He also elaborated on present scenario in

Industrial relations in India especially in

the wake of incidents that took place in

Maruti Udyog’s ‘Manesar’ plant. He

explained the steps taken by present HR

departments of companies to retain and groom employees

The faculties and students expressed their satisfaction towards such an interactive and very

fruitful session.

Prof Jagadish Patil introduced him to the

audience. Mr. Rajiv is an alumnus of BITS

Pilani and an MBA from INSEAD, France.

After working for over six years with

are used by top 10 Business schools in the world and also some of the Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Rajiv is also a visiting faculty at SP Jain centre of Mgt, Singapore and Dubai. He has engaged

Dr. T. Rangarajan Address to the students

An Interaction was conducted today between Dr.T. Rangarajan who has served as a director in about 4 Business schools in the last 15 years including IMSR, Hubli, and the final year students of Global Business School, Hubli. Dr. Rangarajan is an Engineer from IIT Madras and a Fellow of IIM Ahmedabad. He did freelance consultancy before pursuing his passion in teaching. He was accompanied by his wife Dr. Kalyani Rangarajan, Director VIT business School, Chennai. She is also an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad.

He began by asking students why they chose to do an MBA course. After listening to various answers like for Knowledge sake, to become an Entrepreneur, start a business etc. he asked students to evaluate the course critically and asked, did they actually need to do an MBA course to achieve these objectives.

Referring to a Sanskrit saying, he quoted that a man acquires 25% of his total Knowledge from a teacher, 25% by own efforts, 25% from friends & acquaintances & rest with passage of time. But to succeed in business or Life one’s creativity matters over one’s knowledge, he said. Creation can happen by copying like an ‘aero plane’ inspired by the flight of a bird or by innovation like Computer or a Telephone. Hence he asked students to be creative either by copy or innovation.

He also elaborated on this by saying that, mere ideas created by the mind won’t succeed until an action is taken to implement them. He stressed on the need for an elaborate action plan to make an Idea a success.

Answering a question raised by the students he said, people who study from IIMs succeed frequently in life because they are ready to do any kind of work at any time of the day. They do not distinguish between the type of works given to them or others. They are in a state of ‘Readiness’ all the time. He urged students to cultivate similar habits.

The session was quite interactive with students asking many questions. Prof Jagadish Patil welcomed and introduced the guest and Mr. Shripal proposed vote of thanks.

ONE DAY FACULTY DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP ON 15TH JUNE, 2013.

Agricultural Business Management is highly emerging field on world scenario. The changes in

international policies of trade and increasing open market competition has made it mandatory to

adopt the management principles in Agro-based industry. Given the complex environment in

which Indian agricultural operations are carried out, there is a great need for professional

manpower engaged in management of organizations operating in rural and urban India.

In view of this, Karnatak University Dharwad in joint association with the city’s renowned MBA

Institutes, Global Business School, Hubli is organised a one day Faculty Development Workshop

on the 15th of June, 2013, at the campus of GBS Hubli in Bhairidevarkoppa Hubli.

Presently the specialization streams are mainly Marketing, Finance and Human Resource for all

the MBA students studying in the affiliate colleges of KUD, A specialization course in Agriculture

Business Management would help students to develop themselves into competent professional

managers for the agriculture, food processing, rural and allied sectors.

Dr.H S Vijaykumar (Vice chancellor Agricultural University) inaugurating FDP along with him Dr.Ramakant K, Dr. A H Chachadi And Dr.Manik

Page 123: GBS INSIGHTS

123

GBS Hubli is hosted the first FDP as a start to the FDP series. In due course of time, the other

affiliate institutions will host FDP’s in remaining subjects.

Dr. H S Vijaykumar, Vice Chancellor of University of Agriculture Sciences, Dharwad was the key

note speaker on this occasion. He began his speech by stating how we have moved from a totally

deficit economy to getting

transformed into a totally

surplus economy. He spoke

on how we were always

taught of managing the

deficit and never taught the

art to manage surplus

which is the chief problem

of today’s agriculture

industry. He shared

numerous examples to

bring forth this point.

He stressed the fact that

over the years the research was conducted and new policies brought forth focusing on Farming

i.e soil, land, crops etc, He called upon the audience to now shift their focus on the farmer and

help the farmers lead a decent living.

He asked the faculty community to focus on farmer so as to help them know how to manage the

surplus production, production technology, bring awareness about subsidy schemes, how to sell

the produce etc.

This calls for the knowledge management as many farmers chose to only take the part of new

technology which gives immediate benefits and decide to drop the other part such as that

happened over the past years where the farmers only took more use of pesticides, fertilizers and

chose to leave the part where the natural manure/natural compost was to be used even more.

Finally he called the whole management community to keep the below 5 points in mind,

Basics of agriculture – land, soil, crops, seasons and climate conditions

Dr.H S Vijaykumar (Vice chancellor Agricultural University) during the FDP program

Page 124: GBS INSIGHTS

124

No shortcuts, no ignition key with agri industry

Production technology does not stop at crops, but is extended to livestock, fishery, forests

etc

Marketing of the produce

Value chain management – the entire chain and the value that agriculture adds

Dr. A H Chachadi gave the Inaugural address and stated how important role agriculture plays in

our economy but yet synonymous and restricted to only illiterate, never being taught in schools

and colleges as an essential subject. He also said that as India is blessed with good and vast

natural resources and has all the varied climatic conditions suitable for agricultural products,

managing this important sector is the need of the hour. And therefore management cannot be

restricted only to business industry but has to expand to many other sectors.

The objective of the FDP was to bring the practitioners and academicians on one platform to

synchronize the inputs and evolve an effective teaching methodology.

DR. RAMAKANT KULKARNI, DIRECTOR GLOBAL BUSINESS SCHOOL HUBLI WELCOMED THE GATHERING

GBS VISITS MSPL, HOSPET

On 24th January, 2013

Significance of an Industrial Visit:

Industry interface enables students to analyze and understand the dynamics of the

industry. These visits provide students with an adequate exposure in tackling live problems of an

industrial entity. As part of a visit, students can encounter work in progress and relevant

demonstrations. The significance of Industrial Tour lies in giving exposure to the students in the

concerned industry. This not only facilitates the personal relation with the industry people but

also will be helpful in bringing the industry for placement and training.

Industrial Visits at GBS:

GBS offers industrial visit for all the students of MBA. Every semester there is an industrial

trip for one day, in the last visit , students have visited Forbes Campbell and Vega [Belgaum] and

Bisleri [GOA]. So this semester both the classes [Petronas & Scholastics ] have visited to MSPL-

Pellet plant – Hospet On 24th January 2013.

About MSPL, Hospet:

MSPL Limited, is an iron ore mining, processing and a leading export company with 49

years of expertise . According to the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries, they were the first

private company in India to receive a licence for export of high grade Iron Ore (having a Fe

content of 64% or more).

They are also one of India’s leading exporters of high-grade processed Iron Ore to China.

They are the flagship company of the Baldota Group of Companies, which are privately owned

pre-dominantly by the Baldota family.

MSPL is an ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:1996 and OHSAS 18001:1999 certified company.

According to Bureau Veritas , they were the first unit certified in the mining sector in India for

upgrades to ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 status.

132

GBS visits MSPL, Hospet:

GBS visited MSPL,. MSPL is about two and ahalf hour journey from Hubli. The following

points gives the snapshot of the happenings at MSPL

1. At MSPL , we were introduced to the GM-HR, Mr.Gangadhar. He recieved us warmly and

briefed us about the plant and its operations.

2. The students were divided into 3 batches each and were taken inside the plant.

3. The process was as follows:

The iron ore in the form of hematite, magnetite, limonite or siderite forms the raw

material. The ore is treated with additives like bentonite and washed. Then the iron-ore is

crushed using a hammer crusher and an impact crusher. After crushing the ore is sent

through a magnetic separator and then into a ball mill for grinding. After grinding the ore

is again sent in to magnetic separator and a gravity separator respectively. Then the ore is

heated in three furnaces having temperatures between 3000-6000 degree Celsius. Then

the molten metal is filtered out the form of pellet and kept ready for dispatch.

4. Most of the equipments were under breakdown maintenance.

5. The daily output of the plant is about 3000 tons per day and capital investment is 450

crores.

We came out of the plant at 3.00 pm and took our lunch at 3.30 pm at Hospet.

Fun along the way:

The students were in a joyous mood and celebrated the birthday of Vikas Illur on the way.

On our way back we visited the Tungabhadra Dam and the musical Fountain. Overall it was both a

learning and joyful experience.

The Students’ experience:

The overall visit was full of learning with lots of enjoyment. It is really good to visit

manufacturing industries than service sectors. Practically we observed the process and the

employees of MSPL were very co-operative ad supportive towards students.

EXPERIENCE OF NORTH INDIA TRIP 2013 ………By Students of Industrial committee

It was really an amazing fun experience for all of us, the tour was planned out for 10 Days

in the month of May from 16th to 25th.

The preparation started for this trip in the month of Feb, The Industrial coordinators

worked effectively under guidance of Prof. Kiran Ambekar [Industrial Tour coordinator]. In the

beginning we faced the problem in deciding the tour location, because we had 3 options, 1]

Kolkatta WB 2] Gujarat & 3] Delhi students.

Finally students ended up selecting Delhi belt which covered places Agra, Amritsar, Kulu Manali.

During the trip everything went good as per the plan, initially we have visited Delhi and

unfortunately we could not spend sufficient time, it is due to time shortage, so there students

were bit sad. Due to busy and tight schedule all were fully tired of travelling in bus.

All four places that is Delhi, Amritsar, Manali, Agra – were covered. Overall trip was good

and all of us enjoyed a lot, especially Kulu Manali was fantastic for all of us and we had good

experience.

Here is the Glimpses of the memorable tour.

Student Speak

Shripal Bafna III Semester student on victory at Christ University,

Bangalore for the National Level Paper Presentation on 3-12-12)

For any student, participating at Christ College, Bangalore itself is a victory. Entering Christ University was

like a dream come true. I state to understand that research ends with comma and not with a dot. To share

my experience at Christ University, I enjoyed from the very initial stage of invocation program which was

followed by the play of Guitar by the students. I ,and my friend Anuradha Kudari had participated for the

paper presentation at Christ University. I had enjoyed every bit of my presentation in front of not less than

250 audiences. I always had a notion that if there would exist any ups and downs in due course of time,

only then the performance proves to be successful. But my notion proved wrong looking at the Christ

college Management, Accommodation, Hospitality and Time management. After my presentation one of

the Professor’s of Christ College, Dr. Anand Aiavali asked me, “How are you feeling”? I replied

“Participating at Christ University placed me on cloud nine and over that representing Global

business School, Hubli makes me feel as a “Winner”. Out of 66 Abstracts only 14 were shortlisted and

those 14 were invited for personal interaction wherein students from various Top Notch MBA Institutes

participated from cities like Mumbai, Patna, and Manipal etc. And among those selected 14 abstracts, I take

my gracious attitude to express that two abstracts were from our college that is mine and Anuradha’s

paper. After all the proceedings, presentations were carried out by the respective students. Time arrived

where the Jury was announcing the winning teams for CONNASSIANCE 2012. I was representing team

Kshirsagar. When 2nd prize was announced it was Team Kshirasagara, which I was representing and I

couldn’t believe that it was me who won. Having comfortably seated, I waited till I heard my name. Then,

they announced my name and I felt that yes I actually won and this win is the biggest and

achievement for life. I would like to acknowledge three major people who have tremendously

contributed towards my research. Firstly, Mrs. Keerti Kulkarni, Faculty (GBS, Hubli), who has been the

great source of knowledge and exploration. Every statement, every word, every comma, dot is been

checked twice by Mam, so I am very thank full to her. Secondly, I thank my classmate Gurusiddayya

Hiremath, who has actually walked long with me to all the 100 retailers whom I interacted. And reaching

to the people, interacting with them was only with the help of him and finally, I thank my classmate Keerti

Patil who has helped me in doing analysis of survey conducted.

Ms.Anuradha Kudari

Anuradha Kudari - III Semester (Scholastic) student, on Experience of

participating and getting shortlisted among the Top 14 Research

papers’ in National level Paper Presentation “Connaisance”, held at

Christ University, Bengaluru

The Journey to reach among the top 14 research papers would not be possible only by my

personal interest, but indeed it was all possible due to the guidance of Mrs.Vanishree and Keerti

Mam.I thank them for being a constant support and guiding me all through. I also thank Kiran Sir

who informed us regarding the paper presentation competition “Connaisance”,2012,A National

level Research paper Presentation, held in Christ University.Last but not the least; I thank our

beloved Director, Dr Ramakant Sir for having given us a greatest opportunity and support.

The competitive platform provided by Christ University along with the Co-contestants was

wonderful experience and there are lot many take-way’s from the University. In total it was a

wonderful experience during the 2 days spent at the Christ University, Kengeri, Bengaluru. The

chief guest, Dr.R.S. Deshpande, the Director of Institute of Inter-Disciplinary Research and

training in Social Science inspired all the budding Researchers by his infamous talk. He defined

research in a simple way. “Do something which is “not obvious”, explore your thoughts, you find

something different. He related this to our day-to-day activities when we do, which goes un-

noticed. Among the various research processes, the most interesting was the methodology found

out by Dr.R.S.Deshpande, which is Parrot Research, which is going to be published in his

upcoming books. He concluded saying research is never a failure; instead it’s just a continuous

work which goes on for a long time assured with valid results.

At the outset, I Anuradha Kudari, III Semester student, would like to thank everyone who

is directly and indirectly responsible for my victory and providing me an opportunity of having

made a dream come true.

Day1:

We had a seminar by two eminent speakers Mr.Suresh Hundre and Prof. Satyajit Majumdar. Who

spoke on the how an entrepreneur is born, what are his qualities and how he sees the world, a

more of effectual thinking is involved. An entrepreneur is not the one who has only brilliant ideas

or has six or seven zero’s in his/her b-plan, its about understanding the need in the market

(environment).

We also had an opportunity to visit Polyhedron Industries, which manufactures Piston Pumps,

Valves, Pressure Controlers, Switches .It gave us an exposure to live industrial working and how

production units work.

Day2:

We had participated in B-plan competition organized by IMER, Belgaum where in 12 teams had

participated from Karnataka. It was a good learning for us and gave us a lot of exposure in terms

of knowledge and understanding new b-plans..

Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught, it can only be facilitated and initiated. Oscar Wilde I have been associated with GBS for 3 years. Been there from day one. I was sure of one thing that this B- school is going to be one of a kind in North Karnataka. GBS envisions itself as a Corporate B-school. Every detail was worked out to uphold this vision, from the semi-circular classrooms to the faculty rooms, the processes that made students tranform from raw learners to efficient managers, the extra curricular activities, discipline and encouragement all this represented the vision of GBS. This was possible because of team GBS. Teachers were facilitators and students and parents stakeholders, not customers. For me GBS was like an extended family. We faced all hurdles, there were challenges, we overcame came them and two batches came out sucessfully satisfied with their grooming and learning. I had to leave Hubli due to some family demands and responsibilities, but every time I am pensive I think of the good old days spent at GBS. The energy of students, my erudite colleagues, a very competetive atmosphere, all the same a warm and friendly workplace. Thank you team GBS for the wonderful time I had. Look forward to see you grow more.

Introduction of the author

Bidyanand Jha (B.Sc (Maths), M.Sc (Maths) ,MBA(Marketing) ,PGDBM(Retail Management))

Resource person for apeirosindia.in in the field of training and consultancy.

No man who worships education has got the best out of education... Without a gentle

contempt for education no man's education is complete.

I am glad to write something about the Institute who gave me a great exposure for growing

in my career. There were lots of lessons for me during the association with GBS. I Joined

GBS in February 2010 and was there till May 2011.

We all had a dream to make this institution a world class preferred destination for learners

in the management education. We all worked very hard to make it happen. I am sure today

it is one of the best choices of learners in management education.

I was more interested in development of the students on an overall front, which I always

use to do with the help of GBS leadership. I still remember the first national conference

done at GBS. The event name “Acumen” was advised by one of my colleague “Mr.Kiran

Ambekar”. The Designing was supported by “Sumeet”. It was a wonderful event and

experience. There are so many sweet memories with some bitter experience which made

my learning recipe a perfect one during the stay at GBS.

One thing which I always appreciate is the dedication of faculties of GBS towards adding

value for the students. Non teaching staffs are the backbone of the Institute and they are

holding the institute in many facets of the operation.

I miss my friend “Kalmesh” who always use to support me in getting tea from the canteen

which uses to keep me energized during working hour. I miss the company of my

colleagues where lot of discussion related to paper writing and organizational development

use to happen.

I left GBS in May 2011 because of certain unavoidable circumstances. I joined Kirloskar

Institute of Advanced Management Studies for my career enhancement and I am proud to

inform you all that I am doing very well in all fronts. I have published 10 international

papers in refereed journals and recent one is for university of Colombo. I am visiting

University of Colombo on 13th December for presenting my paper in the international

forum. Also feel happy to inform about my two entrepreneurial ventures clickurmind.com

and anmolmoney.in

Life needs to move on and hence I carry this nostalgia. I love to experience the nostalgia

sometime with my GBS Family.

My best wishes to GBS for further growth.

GBS- a nostalgia

Dr. Prashant.V.Yatgiri

Position held at Global Business School, Hubli

Professor. (2007-2011)

Director (June 2010- Dec 2011)

GBS (Aug 2007 to Feb 2012) was my first change in the field of academics

after having a success stint in teaching marketing at KLES’s IMSR, Hubli (Sep

1998 to July 2007). I just cannot forget my first ever batch of students at

IMSR who ensured my strong foothold in the field of academics …. I had often reiterated this

aspect to my students at GBS too.

My changeover to GBS was definitely not a planned one, but do acknowledge lot of personalities

who arouse interest in the change. 1st August, 2007 was the start of an ambitious journey, both

for GBS as an institution, and personally for me also as a first change. The big task for all of us was

to admit the first ever batch at GBS knowing very well we did not have adequate aspects to

discuss /demonstrate as the institution was in its start phase. But believe me, we had to really

convey some aspiring candidates that there were no vacancies at GBS and possibly would need to

wait in case of any drop-outs/cancellations!!! It is at this stage we realized that admissions stand

to have a high positive correlation with various capabilities at the institute and not just a great

legacy of the past!!. We were very quick to convert this into our positioning in North Karnataka

market and very soon GBS started getting the much needed acknowledgement as a destination

for excellent academics, coupled with self-development activities (We were some of the few

institutes who launch their National Level Management Festival ‘Galacto’ in the very first year of

existence), and of course, all this happening in an infrastructure different from others.. I

personally was a fan of the ‘Student Centric Model’ at GBS with the faculty playing a key role in

taking the institution to great heights. Nevertheless we had our own bumpy rides in the process,

but thoroughly enjoyed every outcome.

Setting higher benchmarks soon became a culture at GBS and extended to admission process,

infrastructure design and building, staff/faculty recruitment procedure, co-curricular and extra-

curricular activities. At this juncture the members of the management need to be acknowledged

for the immense belief and unstinted support placed in all of us that motivated us to think

beyond. My stint as the Director of the institution (June 2010- Dec 2011) gave me the much

needed opportunity to test my innate skills of leading an institution at a very crucial stage when

GBS was beginning to show immense potential to be amongst the front-runners in North

Karnataka Area. I was blessed with a good group of sixteen faculty members and able support of

highly motivated non-teaching staff. No wonder we used to proudly call ourselves ‘TEAM GBS’. I

Page 187: GBS INSIGHTS

187

was happy to be a part of that team at GBS which witnessed the doubling of batch size from 60 to

120, the all unforgettable International Tour to Malaysia (A large contingent of 115 students from

2010-2012 batch), Staff outings to Yellapur River Resort and Dandeli and much more.

I always believed that in days of intense competition, the only way to remain on the top is to

continuously keep improving on all fronts be it faculty, placements, infrastructure, activities etc. I

had mixed results on my above endeavours, but nevertheless, have the satisfaction that I leave

behind GBS that has come of age …… It only needs to keep innovating further, take some

calculated risks, challenge the limits and make attempts to strengthen the existing model, which I

sincerely hope should just not be an issue!!

Presently serving in an institution of repute (T.A.Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) listed in the

top 20 B-Schools in India, I realize that it takes a lot of sacrifice/hard work to reach to the top, so

also a group of selfless people to work for the same. Glad to note that GBS is on the right

trajectory, but needs to be extremely clear about its path in the future and also have lots of

patience in achieving the same.

All the very best TEAM GBS …

I am the regular receiver and reader of GBS FOCUS the in- house magazine of GBS HUBLI. It has been sent to me regularly by GBS to which I have some association. It feels nice to share my association for GBS focus. I joined GBS as faculty in the early years of GBS. Being a new institute lot of things were new for all of us. The new faculties joining, the infrastructure was taking shape, the initial batches were full of exciting students and the atmosphere was full of hope. The new institution also called for some practices to be set as a regular activity. In my previous institution, I had the exposure and the occasion to organize lot of student activities. I was ready to take up the responsibility at GBS. When I look back I feel satisfied that GBS gave me an opportunity to initiate some very important student activities. The yearly sports meet pinnacle which I am happy to note continues to be the yearly sports activity, took shape when I was involved in organizing the first Pinnacle in 2008 and indeed it’s nice to know that GBS has been the champion in sports for 4 years in continuation. I also had a opportunity to handle the management fest GALACTO which again has become a regular once in two years activity at GBS, therefore whenever I think of GBS these activities I feel gave me my best days and refresh my memories. Apart from these two major student activities various regular activities and the academic activities were initiated during my time which are now the very culture of GBS today. Today GBS is the well established institution and the activities and various culture have taken a deep root. I am sure the institution will grow strength to strength in coming years and these activities and such will enable the students to learn lot of things and help in their career. I spent quiet a good time with the faculty colleagues and members of management. Currently I have moved to Bellary University but GBS has kept in touch with me that makes me feel proud of getting associated with this institution. I wish GBS all the success and thank them for giving me the opportunity to share my association by way these few thoughts.

GBS – My short association with it.

The quality of an Educational Institution is known by the response of the

students during their study and after they pass out from it. I have the

opportunity to see both in GBS.

I am associated with Global Business School, Hubli for the last 4 years or so as a visiting faculty

teaching various life skills and Psychology. What I have liked most in this Institution is the

involvement of the Management and the staff and their keenness to bring up the Institutions as

one of the highly rated business Management School. Their efforts to upgrade GBS by bringing in

ideas from the best of Management Institutions in India are laudable.

The building, though situated very near the Hubli-Dharwad highway, has no hustle-bustle of the

traffic. On the other hand, it is quiet and cool inside. The College building is built with aesthetic

beauty and academic convenience. The cool and quiet class rooms are so designed that the faculty

is face-to-face with the students. On top of it, they are ‘fully loaded’ with all necessary

infrastructure such that conducting a class in them is a pleasure.

The academic atmosphere is so serene and the teacher taught relation is so cordial that teaching

is lot through discussion and participation. The students learning through experience is given all

priority.

Other facilities such as, library, computer applications, sports brighten up the students.

Encouragement to participate in co-curricular activities such as, seminars, quiz, Inter-collegiate

management oriented competitions, cultural celebrations have brought pleasing students-

teacher relation. Preparing them to face the life situations, familiarise them with life skills, take

up the placement services with efficiency have endeared the students with Institution.

I feel proud to be associated with the Institution, GBS.

It is my great fortune that I get to share my few thoughts with GBS FOCUS.

I am a B.Sc, MBA graduate. I have completed my MBA program from VTU, Belgaum, 2008 passed

out. My first assignment was, as HR trainee in PEBPL, Belgaum. Second assignment as Asst. to

Director Placements in GBS, Hubli.

I admire the commitment of the administrative, faculty, and management to take the programme to new

heights in academic and placements. They spend a lot of time in designing new programmes and

monitoring. I feel GBS College putting efforts to set high level of standards in northern Karnataka.

I wish all the GBS fraternity a meaningful professional career and happy life ahead.

I whole-heartedly thank all the people who helped me during my tenure at GBS. Special thanks to Mr.

Working in GBS has been one of the most enriching journeys of my professional life . My

association with GBS started as visiting faculty, later I joined as full time faculty member. I was

one of the privileged members of faculty who had the honor of teaching the first batch of GBS.

Some of the students are still in touch and are doing extremely well in their lives.

I still distinctly remember the enthusiasm and hustle-bustle during GALACTO, the team spirit

during the sports event , interactions during the lectures….. Students participated wholeheartedly

and with loads of enthusiasm and commitment in the both academics as well as extracurricular

activities.

And about my colleagues who were very motivating and supportive. The administrative staff took

care of all the administrative work which helped us to focus better on our core activities. I was

totally soaked in GBS culture which was very friendly and stress free but never compromised on

the performance. I still carry a part of it along with me.

Proud to be associated with GBS.

Wishing GBS all the very best for all its future endeavors.

When Ramakant sir asked me write in Nostalgia, the first thing that came to my mind was how one

would ever write a life-time experience in one page! Nevertheless, I am going to give it a try. Truly,

any experience with GBS is a life-time experience; one will always love to cherish it. The

professionalism when it comes to academics, the kindness of people when it comes to personal issues,

management‟s vision when it comes to future is the hallmark of GBS‟s success. This is quickly passed

down to every member of the „GBS Family‟, and I think this is what has made GBS to achieve what

any reputed institute would take years to achieve. All these experiences are deeply carved into my mind

and have given an eclectic shine to my personality.

Be it recondite but elite building design, closed-door strategic board meetings, admissions‟ rush,

students‟ interaction in class, sports & cultural activities, gold medal and trophies won by the students

at University level, staff and sub-staff‟s unequivocal support and relevant queries, faculty- meetings, -

arguments and -achievements, academic pressures, placement cell‟s grand mela or Galacto; every

instance is an event in itself. Each one is equally enthusiastic to participate, contribute and learn. I can

never forget the charged environment at GBS. At this moment, I distinctly recall our staff tour of thirty-

two members to Dandeli wildlife sanctuary. Ah! What an exquisite way to relax, rejuvenate and

entertain yourself to be ready for the next challenges!

I was really lucky to be part of this thrilling and lively GBS family and wish all the success to all the

stakeholders of GBS in time to come. Oscar Wilde once said „Memory is the diary that we all carry

about with us‟, and I have decorated pages of GBS in my diary.

GBS- a nostalgia

Chidanand Byahatti BLDE,Assistant Professor, +91-98456-51235, [email protected] Tenure and at GBS: 2008-2009,

For me, it all started in August 2008. Admissions/enquiries of students to MBA 2nd Batch

was on peak. The Director-Admin, Dr. Ramakanth Kulkarni and Director-Academics, Dr Prashant

Yatgiri were very kind enough to conduct a formal welcome to the team, as the tradition is at GBS.

They introduced me to the entire teaching and non-teaching staff and oriented me on various

other aspects of my role in the organisation. I was provided with a computer, telephone and

separate cubicle to sit and operate. I was formally introduced to the MBA 2nd Year Students, and

there after it was my job to take up initiatives to work on.

Blessed with the corporate culture in terms of work pattern, rules and regulations and the

professionalism finely blended with team, GBS was all geared up for the second batch. With the

presence of both the dynamic directors, we had, Dr. R R Kulkarni, Prof. Kiran Magavi, Prof. Manoj

Dolli, Prof. Kartikey Koti and Prof. Ashok Patil. I was nurtured enough, to understand and develop

myself with all the guidance from my colleagues. I still remember the 11.30/12pm tea that used

to be served daily, where we all colleagues used to come out of our cubicles and chat, in the

staffroom. It was like a commercial break during the movies.

I was also been put as technical In-charge faculty for the overall Institutional IT

infrastructure development and maintenance. To my assistance Mr. Mahaveer(Technical Staff),

was always ready with the necessary solutions. I took active role in bringing out the college

website with regular updates. I had developed a web-based software application for the college

admission process for management quota candidates. The semester began and a lot of learning,

corrections and proper feedback, from the faculties, students, I started to improvise. We had

great fun during the second MBA batch orientation programme to cherish the fresher’s party.

I started to work in co-ordination with all the staff. The first batch of GBS was in its second

year, I was allotted a subject, the batch was a little more interactive class. With the librarian, Mr.

Vijaykumar Deshabag, we implemented the KOHA software alongwith barcode system in the

library. Since, it was just the second year of GBS, with no placement officer. I was asked to take up

Page 194: GBS INSIGHTS

194

the placement related activities, like bringing in the Placement Brochure, interacting and co-

ordinating with various organisations for recruitment of our final year students. It was really a

firsthand experience for me as a Placement Officer, with the help of students and staff, it was all

the fun.

Frequent travel to Bangalore, on appointments with HR managers for the recruitment had

become a routine almost every 15 days. During the course, I also developed a faculty appraisal

system, a web-based open source application for students to give their feedback on various

parameters for every faculty who taught them that semester.

GBS has a good culture of bringing in Industry experts as a part of Industry Institute

Interface, where part of the syllabus in every subject is dealt by them. This brings in practical

understanding to the students. To co-ordinate between the industry and commerce, Dr. R R

Kulkarni initiated G-ARC (Global Advanced Research Consultancy Cell), which gave way for

corporate business consultancy in real sense.

I also remember the Karnataka University Pedagogy Meet series, where faculties of all

Management Institutions would get together and used to work on the syllabus updation for the

MBA.

It isn’t just the academics, Sports and Management Fests have always been a part and

parcel of GBS. Students were also actively participating in all the events. When I was a part of the

GBS team, Bhumika Parents meet was the first ever Parents meet conducted, everybody was

really excited. After the First successful year, interacting with the parents and getting a positive

feedback from the parents was really awesome. I hadn’t had any prior experience of Interacting

so positively with the parents which boosted me to work more for the overall development of the

students.

Whenever I used to approach the Administrative-staff for any work, they were so co-operative,

and transparent in all their activities all the time and never complained of anything.

It was a real good learning and developing environment for me all the time. GBS is the place

where I got the real feel of corporate behaviour and a good work culture in practice.

After an year long stay, I decided to shift myself to another institute.

Well, this is my memory and life @ GBS forever...
