Dear Parent/Guardian,
Educational technology and funding changes daily. To keep up with these changes
and expenses, our school is participating in our local supermarket’s Apples for the
Students Program.
The Strack & VanTil Apples for the Students Program enables our school to earn
Apple Computer and iPads, sporting goods, audio visual equipment, science sup-
plies, hundreds of other items to choose from, and they are all FREE…
To earn these FREE awards we simply have to collect as many Strack & VanTil reg-
ister receipts as possible from September 1st, 2019 through March 2nd, 2020. Ask
your friends and relatives to shop at Strack & VanTil and save every receipt.
Send the receipts to school with your student as often as possible. Here at school we
will count the value of the register tapes collected and redeem them for great items
that benefit your child. There will be a box at the VanTil’s located at 2635 169th
Street and in the Main Office for your convenience to drop off the receipts.
Thank you in advance for your participation.

T itle 1 is a program
which provides extra academic support
and learning opportunities for children
farthest from meeting challenging
state standards.
How Does the Money Get to My
School District?
The money travels from the
US Government to your school district
then to your school building.
Census data are used to deter-
mine the amount of Title 1 money
your district receives.
How Does a School Become a Title 1
School?
The number of students that
get free and/or reduced lunch is used to
determine the district-wide poverty and
school poverty.
Title 1 can serve schools at or
above the district-wide
poverty average. Schools with 75% or
greater poverty must be served.
How Does Title 1 Help Schools?
Title 1 helps your school by
SUPPLEMENTING and improving the
regular education programs offered at
you school to help students meet the
State standards.
Types of Title 1 Schools
There are two types of
Title 1 Schools - Targeted Assisted and
School wide.
TARGETED ASSESTED
schools serve children who have been
identified of being at risk of not meet-
ing the state's high
standards.
SCHOOLWIDE schools en-
hance the whole educational program
within a school to meet the needs of the
lowest achieving students. They target
the resources on students who are at
risk of not meeting the state's high
standards.
Will My Child Receive Title 1 Services?
Services are given to students
who are in need of academic help, ac-
cording to the state standards and the
collection of the school's data. This is
not based on the poverty of the stu-
dent's family.
What Types of Services
are Offered?
Services can be, but not limited
to the following:
Tutoring
Special teachers (Example: Read-
ing and Math)
Pre-school programs
Extended day/year programs
All Day Kindergarten
Learning Laboratories
Home-school liaisons
It is up to the individual
schools to design a program to help
students improve academic achieve-
ment to meet the challenging State
standards, meet the needs of students,
and provide professional development
for teachers and parents.
Parents are an Integral/IMPORTANT
Part of Title 1!
Schools offer a variety of work-
shops, to parents, about many topics on
how to help their child.
Parents are needed and encour-
aged to help plan/change Title 1 school's
policy, participate in classroom visita-
tions, attend informational meetings,
attend Parent/Teacher conferences, and
to help evaluate the overall program of
the school.
Title 1 helps parents
understand the laws of education.

Hispanic Heritage Month
GA VIT GA ZE TT E
Why do we celebrate it? Every year since 1988, in the United States we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 to October 15, to recognize the importance of the stories, cultures and contributions that Hispanics and Latino-descendants have made to our society. During these dates, the independence of most Latin American countries is also celebrated. PORQUE LO CELEBRAMOS? / Why do we celebrate it?
ricanos.
Why is it important for our School? According to the last census, in Hammond area, more than 40% of the population de-clares themselves Hispanic or Latino descendants, and our school reflects in its ethnic and cultural diversity a great presence of Hispanic-Latinos from different countries, who contribute to the school community with its cultural and linguistic background, with its joy and effort. It is important because we Hispanics call this school our "second home." PORQUE ES IMPORTANTE PARA NUESTRA ESCUELA? / Why is it important for
our School?
escuela “segunda casa”.
